SMS Notifications and Teacher Levels
Before anything else, the majority of the time I've been very satisfied as a tutor with how MusicTeachers is run, and the good points far outweigh the bad.
However, I'm disappointed that I rarely receive texts from the company when a new prospective client messages. We're promised this notification every time a new pupil messages, and if I don't get the notification, I'm unable to respond to messages as quickly as I'd like. Only about 1 time out of 5 do I get a text alert when I receive a message from a new pupil.
Also, I noticed that there was no pay increase when I moved to 'Gold' level. I saw in the explanation notes that instead the pupil fee decreases. This seems unfair to me, and MusicTeachers suggest I instead put my prices up. I increased my prices unilaterally a few months earlier, and I can't do it again. As far as I can see, there's no reward at all for the tutor when they move up a level, and unless I've got something wrong, this takes away any incentive for moving to the new level.

On SMS notifications, we’ve checked delivery on our side and can see that messages are being 'sent', but in some cases mobile networks are filtering them before they reach your phone. This is something we’re seeing more widely as spam controls have tightened. We’re actively testing ways to improve reliability, as we know how valuable SMS notifications are. One recommendation; take a look at enabling push notifications from within your email client for MusicTeachers - some teachers have been able to replicate the 'ping' in this way.
On membership levels, what remains unchanged is our commitment to rewarding teachers for their success on the platform — and congratulations on reaching Gold level.
Platform fee reductions apply automatically to groups, lesson offers and trial lessons. For lesson blocks, teachers can increase their fees by 1.5%, which allows your income to increase without raising prices for students.

My saxophone teacher Damian Hand is fantastic. So supportive. Online lessons with the occasional in-person works really well. The scheme is also so easy and reliable to use.

Negative experience with the teacher…
Negative experience with the teacher Alex, he took months to respond to me so I ended up contacting the Support team (who's extremely quick and helpful) and getting a refund. The two lessons I bought were supposed to be a gift to my partner but she did only one lesson because the teacher was ignoring us.

Lara - Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry this happened — waiting so long for a response, especially when the lessons were meant as a gift, must have been very frustrating.
We’re glad our support team was able to step in quickly and arrange a refund once we were aware of the situation. Teachers on the platform manage their own availability and messages, but when something like this happens we do our best to put things right.
Thanks to the extensive vetting we carry out before teachers join the platform, experiences like this are fortunately very rare but for your wait and frustration on this occasion we can only apologise.

My daughter has been taking lessons with Hector, and the change has been incredible. He is so good with kids—patient, fun, and knows exactly when to push and when to praise. My daughter actually practices without being reminded now because Hector makes it so enjoyable. We are so happy we found him.

An excellent platform run by excellent people
I'm a piano/composition teacher currently on the MusicTeachers platform and I'm always impressed by the people who work their. Everyone I've spoked to from Alex to James have been exemplary. Patient, courteous, thoughtful, kind and well spoken.
Likewise the service they provide is highly valuable for a music teacher such as myself. They connect me with students who I am precisely looking for and keep it all organised for me.
But ultimately, they are good people. And that, for me, is what matters most. It's why I keep using them and why I'm writing this review.

My son has been having weekly lessons with Louis in preparation for college in September, we are very happy with the way he is being taught as Louis is patient, knowledgeable and has gone the extra mile with working on specific areas that he needs to begin the course. Highly recommended!

Great Experience so Far... Thoroughly recommend
Easy to use service and piano teacher contacted me directly within hours. Having now had 3 lessons so glad to have started with Katy. I have no experience and Katy is so encouraging. Loving the lessons so far and the time flies. Even enjoying my homework!

Extortionate Fees
Teacher was lovely. The website is not. Double charging me for fees and a £40 fee for setting up an arrangement with a teacher is extortionate.

We’re pleased to hear you found your teacher lovely. Teachers on the platform set their own lesson rates, including any travel adjustments where lessons take place at home. Lessons are booked and paid for through the platform, and the total cost — including the platform’s service fee — is shown before checkout rather than charged separately.
Many teachers use lesson blocks to reduce the cost of ongoing tuition, which can make a single first lesson appear higher when booked on its own. We have introduced a dedicated trial lesson option to make first meetings more accessible. As this is a newer feature, not all teachers are yet using it for initial lessons, which may explain the difference you experienced.
We continue working with teachers to ensure first lessons feel clear and fair from the outset.
