When I tried to complian, I was palmed-off with the usual "policy" line. Completely dismisive!
This seems suspiciously like a business model to extract more revenue from airport rentals - claim damage long after they have any way of disputing it.

Very disappointing and discriminatory experience with National Car Rental.
My cousins came to Denmark for business and were refused a rental car because they were considered “suspicious” based only on their appearance and nationality. This kind of racial profiling is unacceptable.
After 15 years living in Denmark, this is one of the most racist experiences I have witnessed.

Je n’ai jamais vu une agence de location aussi incompétente, c’est tout bonnement inadmissible.
Nous avons loués une voiture il y a plusieurs mois il l’avons payé. Nous arrivons à l’aéroport à 1h du matin et la personne ne veut pas nous donner la voiture car c’est une carte de débit et non de crédit. Nous proposons de relouer la voiture avec une autre carte de crédit mais la personne n’a pas voulu. Nous avons donc été laissé comme ça à 1h du matin dans 1 pays étranger. Il y avait 1 groupe de jeunes qui étaient dans la même situation que nous, ainsi qu’un couple avec 2 enfants en bas âge qui devaient dormir par terre sur le parking de l’aéroport. Totalement scandaleux ! Et ne chercher pas à appeler le service où vous avez loué la voiture ils n’ont même pas répondu !!!! Heureusement un autre service de location beaucoup plus sérieuse nous à louer une voiture et nous avons pu profiter de notre voyage. D’ailleurs la personne qui était devant nous était également victime de National également !!!
Bref … chercher ailleurs quitte à ajouter un peu plus chère pour être sûr d’avoir une voiture.

We had a very good experience renting a Ford Kuga hybrid from National Car Rentals at St. Stephen's Green, Ireland, for 9 days.
1) Valentino deserves special mention for his friendly and helpful service. With patience and a smiling face, he assured 4 nervous ladies that we would be fine after enduring so many questions, he even waited as we test-drove in the car park area.
2) The rental process was easy and straight-forward.
3) The car had good petrol efficiency and we only pumped 2 times.
4) Returning the car, we met with Valentino again and thanked him, return was also fast and easy.
5) Being a member of the Emerald Club has many benefits and helped save us money.
6) The whole price was reasonable and there were no hidden costs.

I’m Exec platinum. Travel every week and rent cars. Grand Forks ND location. I’m delayed on a flight I have a car reservation, get there and they so no cars. I watch other members get cars. No uber at this site too remote.
Send me to another car company. NO CARS! I’m a solo female traveler. No offer to help or anything! I’ve left 4 messages for mgmt. KO CALL BACK!

Do not use this company. They’re completely unresponsive. We were in Dubai as the situation with Iran has escalated. Every other supplier has been fantastic… these guys… oh these guys have been useless. Can’t reach them via any channel.
Make sure you have them document…
Make sure you have them document everything wrong with the car. Don’t let them tell you it’s not a big deal or not big enough. If the item becomes larger while you drive it even though you told them or asked them about it. It’s your fault.

My wife and I got into San Diego at 2:00AM after a 2 hour delay but Anthony C. was still there which was such a relief. Checked in quick and actually got upgraded to a 2026 BMW M5 because our compact SUV wasn't available. Awesome way to start the trip!

Extremely poor customer service from…
Extremely poor customer service from National Car Rental. Despite having a confirmed booking, National refused to release the vehicle to me and my family — including three small children — leaving us stranded just before Christmas and unable to travel to our remote accommodation. They showed no flexibility or empathy when we explained that we did not have a credit card for the holding fee, only a debit card. No where on the our booking confirmation did it clearly state a credit card would be required holding fee, yet this was used as a reason to deny us the car.
Rather than trying to help, National staff were entirely focused on protecting themselves financially and discussing potential damage charges, with no regard for our situation or the distress caused to our family. There was zero customer care, problem-solving, or willingness to assist — just rigid policies and an unhelpful attitude.
Thankfully, Europcar demonstrated what real customer service looks like by helping us the same day and ensuring we could still enjoy our Christmas holiday. National Car Rental completely failed us when we needed them most, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before using them.
P.S if you do not own a credit card avoid using national car rental completely.

They are trying to charge me £2,250 for a scratch I did not cause.
The car was handed to me at night, parked tightly with no way to access the driver side. When I returned it, they claimed damage but the location on the invoice doesn’t even match what the agent said at drop-off.

If I could give a zero I deffo would the 24 plate van was delivered it was in a terrible state so much damage all of which I videoed and took photos I had to clean the windows so I could see out of them and top up the water
The van drove ok and done us ok
However I have tried phoning on several occasions the phone rings for over an hour and nobody answers I have sent 10 emails and several messages regarding the return of my £500 deposit ( which they said took 28 days and that was 2 months ago)as the van was returned in exactly the same condition as I received it in I am now taking legal action as my money has been stolen

Rip-off to refuel
Unable to find a petrol station close to Toronto airport - so didn’t refuel . They charged nearly twice the going rate per litre and a fee on top $$$$ - don’t mind a small charge but that’s rip-off territory
Incorrect Charges Not Refunding
Rented a car for a day from the Edinburg airport to be returned to the Birmingham office last week. Upon return I was emailed a receipt incorrectly including refueling charges as I had filled the tank before return. I went back to the office and explained the situation. I was asked to call the Edinburg office. I called them and recorded the incident, I was then confirmed that a refund would be issued. A week past with no refund, call or anything. This is utterly frustrating. I had to spend 4 hours on a Sunday travelling back to the airport and several phone calls simply to sort out an error solely caused by their negligence, and get them acknowledge their mistake, but still no refund to date. If I am not refunded by the 05th of September, going to start a legal action. I have used several car hires in the past with no issues alike.
DONT RENT HERE! If something happens you’re on your own
We had an absolutely terrible experience with National Car Rental during what was supposed to be our honeymoon.
• We were stranded for over 16 hours with a punctured tire, despite being promised “24/7 roadside assistance.”
• Multiple National representatives assured us we would receive a full refund, yet now the company is only offering a partial reimbursement (a hotel night and a small rate adjustment).
• Instead of the luxury sedan we booked for our wedding, we were given a lower-class SUV in poor condition (bad urine odor, not what we paid for).
• On top of that, we were promised unlimited mileage and tolls, but were still charged mileage and toll fees.
This experience caused us immense stress, ruined our honeymoon, and continues to affect us today. Instead of taking responsibility, National has passed us from one person to another, with no proper resolution.
At this point, the only fair outcome is a full refund of all rental charges. Anything less is unacceptable given the service failures and broken promises.
We trusted National/Enterprise Mobility for our special trip, but we feel completely let down. We urged corporate management to take this matter seriously, because what happened to us should never happen to any customer.
Yet, nothing happend…
