Proton Mail is a great e-mail service that has all the things you would expect.

I can send and receive emails, manage identities, create a folder structure and so on and so forth.

My only negative remark to proton as a paying customer, is that every time I want to manage my settings in the local Linux email client, it opens a new tab in my default web browser and goes to the Proton mail login page, which is redundant as I already am logged into my email client.

Besides that I am satisfied, the price is fair, support answers, the e-mail client works, and I know that I have my e-mails at a company within EU that follows the EU laws and champions privacy.

An excellent email service that can replace Google in many ways. It has a calendar and other useful features, the interface is lightweight and intuitive, and it loads even on low-powered devices. There is a paid version, but I haven't tried it. It seems to me that the free version has everything you need if you're an ordinary user rather than a business owner.
The downside is the limited selection of personalization themes. Personally, I miss something more cheerful, while all the available themes are in rather restrained colors.

Ich bin absolut fassungslos und extrem verärgert über die Geschäftspraktiken von Proton Mail. Ich kann jeden nur eindringlich davor warnen, diesen Dienst für wichtige oder geschäftliche Angelegenheiten zu nutzen.

Meine katastrophale Erfahrung:

- Extrem kurze Fristen: Mein Postfach mit der Adresse ronnenberg@proton****.** wurde nach lediglich 12 Monaten Inaktivität einfach komplett gekündigt und gelöscht. Andere E-Mail-Anbieter deaktivieren ungenutzte Accounts frühestens nach 5 bis 15 Jahren. Eine Frist von nur einem Jahr ist lächerlich kurz und absolut kundenunfreundlich.

- Keine Wiederherstellung möglich: Der Support stellt sich komplett quer. Es wurde mir mitgeteilt, dass man diese E-Mail-Adresse nicht mehr freigeben oder reaktivieren kann. Man steht buchstäblich vor verschlossenen Türen und hat keinerlei Chance, seinen Account zurückzubekommen.

- Massiver finanzieller Schaden: Da mir der Zugriff auf diese E-Mail-Adresse nun komplett fehlt und wichtige Zugänge und Verifizierungen darüber liefen, habe ich einen finanziellen Verlust von knapp 5.000 Euro erlitten.

Fazit:
Wer eine zuverlässige E-Mail-Adresse sucht, auf die man sich verlassen kann – auch wenn man sie mal eine Weile nicht aktiv nutzt –, sollte einen großen Bogen um Proton Mail machen. Ein System, das Konten so schnell und unwiderruflich löscht und damit das Vermögen seiner Nutzer gefährdet, ist schlichtweg nicht tragbar. Absolut keine Empfehlung!

I've had a free account for a while just to try things out and I decided to get email plus and connect a custom domain that seems to work now after some DNS trial and error towards WIX.

If all goes well after my one month test is over I might get a full year for my company email as it's about half the price Google Workspace would be. I don't need a lot of the features the competitors might offer, just the ability to email with a custom domain.

the mail ui is terrible and keeps getting worse. fire your ux lead.

Proton blocks email accounts without reason and you loose your data completely. Avoid this provider. Even Gmail or Hotmail is more secure.

Not the smartest processes when paying for an account.
Please sort out your ease of use re payments, its a mess.

I paid for Proton Duo, which is a lot of money for me, and I originally liked the platform, especially the privacy focus and clean design. However, my experience became very frustrating when I tried to forward or export a full conversation and found that the platform does not properly support this in the way I needed.

I contacted support, but the process was not helpful for me. I also requested a refund after limited usage, but the refund was refused and I was repeatedly asked for more proof. This took too much time and became overwhelming.

I have since cancelled my renewal and moved my account back to the free plan. I may close or stop using the platform fully. Proton has good features, but the customer support experience, refund handling, and limitation with forwarding/exporting full conversations were disappointing, especially after paying for Proton Duo.
I hope Proton improves full conversation export/forwarding options and makes refund/support communication clearer and easier for customers.

Just be aware that this company deletes all email when they deem your account inactive. I can even still Log in with my hotmail account the dates from the stone ages. I must have not read the rules but honestly would never have thought this to be a rule. My correspondence is my correspondence, I thought. No warning on my second email about this.

IMPOSSIBLE. je suis débité tous les mois de 4,99€. J'ai été obligé de faire opposition à ma CB (avec obligation de refaire mes paiements pour mes autres abonnements). C'est inadmissible .
Je vais étudier un autre service qui serait meilleur pour ceux qui ne parle pas l'anglais (Info...)

Ich gebe 3 Punkte, weil ich zuerst massive Schwierigkeiten mit Proton hatte. Im Voraus bezahlte Dienstleistung nicht, bzw. nur eingeschränkt bekommen, Konto deaktiviert, alle Daten weg, dass ich mein Geld wieder bekommen habe, grenzt an ein Wunder.
Aber nach vielen schlaflosen Nächten und massivem Ärger habe ich nun wieder alles zusammen. Auf meine Daten konnte ich wieder zugreifen, Geld habe ich zurückbekommen.

An Proton gerichtet: Support könnte wohl besser sein, wie man ein Backup vom Mac macht, weiß ich bis heute nicht und wird auch nirgendwo beschrieben. Und genau deshalb habe ich die Proton Dienstleistung gekauft. Es hat nicht funktioniert, schade.
Mein Konto behalte ich.

As a free user of Protonmail, I am fully satisfied with the quality of message encryption, storage capacity, quality of the technical support and intuitive, easy-to-operate user interface. I have been using ProtonMail for 6 years, and I am fully satisfied with this service. Have a nice summer.

Les mails ne sont parfois pas reçu par le destinataire et l’expéditeur n'en ai pas informé. Mail renvoyé dans les spams peut être? donc peu fiable, dommage...

Even with the assistance of AI it is impossible to find the way to cancel your package.... So I had only one option: block them on my Revolut...

i looked it up and it seems that protonmail is on some sort of blacklist of certain email providers that company uses.

Cancelled but these thieves still took a payment from my account. Just another bunch of VPN scammers and criminals. Don't fall for their 'we're different and genuine spiel'. AVOID!

I can weirdly enough only make a judgement on Proton mail. But the company have paying plans for cloud drive, mail, AI LLM and more. It seems like ever basic plan cost 10 Euro at month. If you want all of their plans you would pay like 100 Euro a months for programs that are inferior to the like of Google or Microsoft. Yes you get a promise of them respecting GDPR. But they are ten times more expensive that everyone else. I would like if they had a total package including all of their products at a price a normal human can pay

Ottimo servizio, ero convinto della mia scelta. Solo, molte mail non mi arrivano: guardare spam, cestino, tutti i messaggi non serve. Ottimo servizio, ma le mail devono arrivare.
