I signed up for Proton Mail with the understanding that they offer a 30‑day money‑back guarantee. I requested a refund within that 30‑day period, clearly meeting the stated requirement.
Despite this, my refund was denied, with no satisfactory explanation that justified why the guarantee was not honored. This was extremely frustrating, especially for a service that positions itself as transparent and user‑focused.
While the product itself may offer strong privacy features, the customer support and billing experience do not match that image. A refund policy should be respected exactly as written — otherwise it feels misleading.
I would advise potential customers to be very cautious and not rely on the 30‑day refund promise when making a purchase decision.

Could access my account which i have for 10 years due to a new cellphone and use 2fa to login. With the new cellphone i couldn't link the codegenerator to my account again.
I start mailing them and as far as i could i answered securityquestions. Than it was quiet for a week, no response at all and i contacted them on twitter and they let me know that if i sentreaction back to them before i got an answer i could expect delay. (Now u see how subtle dominant they are).
An new guy contacted me and asked other securityquestions which i answered again and now they say: sorry but we can't give u access! So for me it's clear, never again with this Swiss company. Punishing people for faults they can't do anythong about it!!!!!

- die Anzahl der Proton Werbemails für ein Upgrade empfinde ich als störend
- Webinterface zT sehr langsam. Das merke ich speziell bei der Suchfunktion, beim Löschen der Mails und beim Zugriff auf den Trash Folder. Ausprobiert mit diversen Browsern und an diversen Tagen
- Automatisches Löschen der Mails im Trashfolder erfordert einen kostenpflichtigen Account
- Begrenzung auf 500MB für den kostenfreien Account ist ausreichend, wenn man Mails und vorallem den Trashfolder regelmässig löscht. Erfordert Disziplin, vermeidet aber Müll.
- Man sollte bedenken, das IMAP nicht geht!!!! Ist per see kein Nachteil, aber man kann auf seine Mails nicht mit einem üblichen Mailclient zugreifen.
- In der freien Version ist der Komfort deutlich reduziert gegenüber anderen Anbietern und meiner Meinung nach eignet sich der Dienst nicht für eine primäre Mailadresse.
- PLUS: freie Version ist gratis
Zusammenfassend überwiegen für mich persönlich eher die Nachteile, ich habe aber für mich noch keine Alternative mit gutem Datenschutz gefunden.

Ce service impose des contraintes techniques inacceptables par rapport à la concurrence :
Gestion des emails de domaine déplorable : Il est impossible de supprimer une adresse liée à votre propre nom de domaine sans effacer l'intégralité des messages associés. C'est une forme de rétention de données particulièrement contraignante.
Alias inutiles et risqués : Les alias créés (censés protéger votre vie privée) ne peuvent être ni supprimés, ni utilisés pour répondre. Résultat : vous créez une porte d'entrée supplémentaire pour le spam sans aucun moyen de faire machine arrière.
Publicité trompeuse : Les promesses de protection sont contredites par des limitations techniques qui finissent par exposer l'utilisateur plus qu'elles ne le protègent.
Totalement incroyable de faire cela, s'approprier vos emails de votre domaines et les exposer. La concurrence offre beaucoup plus de liberté et de contrôle sur vos propres données.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I ran an MSP/consultancy. I used Proton for Business with the Mail Professional subscription. It worked pretty well (although it lacked a lot of features). But recently I had to close down due to health issues and therefore had to cancel my subscription. I couldn't, because I had an "unpaid" invoice issued the very same day. I couldn't cancel it or remove my payment because the invoice wasn't paid, and just now today, I checked my bank only to find a 36.96 € charge. That is a dark behavioral pattern. From a company obsessed with privacy and freedom. I won't ever recommend Proton to anyone needing something for their business for (hopefully) obvious reasons. I would never EVER relay something like that on to a client.

Hab mein Proton Mail Konto jetzt noch nicht sehr lange. Was ich aber ziemlich blöd finde, ist dass keine Verifizierungsmails von Anbietern ankommen. Man kann mit dem Konto also seine Mail-Adresse nirgends bestätigen.

After being a gmail user since beta (I had over 75,000 emails on gmail) Proton mail was a breath of fresh air. The transition was seamless - they provide an option to automatically transfer all your emails from other providers, it took less than half an hour to transfer roughly 20 years of gmail to Protonmail.
I can't recommend this service highly enough. I use their paid 'all in one' package which also provides calendar, VPN, and an encrypted online drive. 500GB is nothing to sneeze at. Well worth every penny.

Proton deletes inactive accounts (just 1 year) and blocks your own username forever because it looks like they can't afford enough server space to keep a few kilobytes of metadata. If you guys are so broke that you have to purge user identities to stay afloat, just say so

Superblij met Proton! Ik ben sinds 4 maanden overgestapt op een betalende emailprovider om me weg te snijden uit het Amerikaans en ongereguleerd ecosysteem. Heel eenvoudige desktopapplicatie met een paar goeie premium features, waarvoor je ook op Outlook moet betalen. Heb er dus de privacy bij en geen spam, of dataverkoop, een echte aanrader om een klein bedrag uit te geven en jezelf digitaal te beschermen!

This email service has an interesting monetisation model — they often push their subscription even when it’s not really relevant.
But honestly, it’s a solid email service that does its job well. You can easily create multiple accounts and use one for random sign-ups or spammy services.
Overall, it’s a good email — simple, practical, and useful.

Problem 1: Search function in Proton drive not working. Support poor with endless email exchanges. Wasting a lot of time with no improvement of service
Problem: Despite having provided the correct billing address, there seems to be a glitch and the invoice was issued without address. Customer service has described some steps to fix this, but none of these worked. Agent refuses to issue correct invoice directly and only refers to glitched option in account. AI agent?
Totally useless. Free services work way better. Save your money, but more important massive hassles.

Paid user locked out for weeks – no resolution
I am a paying Proton customer (CHF 119 for Lumo Plus + CHF 48 for Mail), and I have been locked out of my account for over 4 weeks with no resolution.
My account appears to be blocked due to a “dispute”, and at the same time it is scheduled for deletion. Even when using my correct 12-word recovery phrase, access is denied.
Support keeps asking standard ownership verification questions, but does not clearly explain:
* what the dispute actually is
* how it can be resolved
* how I can regain access to services I have already paid for
This is not just an account recovery issue — it is also a billing issue involving paid services that are currently inaccessible.
I understand Proton’s strong security model, but in this case the process is opaque and extremely slow. Waiting over 4 weeks without a clear resolution path is not acceptable for a paid service.

Bisher war ich mit dem bezahlten Account zufriedden, diesen werde ich nun aber kündigen, da Proton Nutzerdaten ohne Gerichtsurteil an ausländische Polizeidienststellen weitergibt, man google "Proton, FBI"

Your algorithm is absolutely terrible. I am getting really tired of being signed out, blocked and then forced to change the password. We have a family account and use the services on different profiles and devices. Your system makes the family accounts useless. Very often my family don't even know they have been signed out. I have complained about this before and got back the poor response it is to protect the account. Our usecase is for personal use only, we use strong passwords and need access to each others accounts. So please fix your awful algorithm?
