I've never had to use debt collectors before, but when one of my clients refused to pay for work and turned really toxic, I contacted Redwood Collections and I am really glad I did. The client paid the full amount with late payment charge and interest after couple of calls from Redwood. I am so happy someone spoke with him on my behalf as I couldn't deal with it anymore! Really grateful to you guys and Reece Tomlin in particular.

Quick turnaround and great communication.

Redwood are the most effective collectors we have tried, they keep in touch well and understand how to meet our customers needs at the same time as ours. This is important to us as it's not always about the money. Jack Stoneham has recently worked hard to collect on a number of small debts for us, negotiating with our customers and liaising with us making the process smooth.

Initially, the feedback I received from Redwood was positive and the contacts I had were all polite. Redwood emailed and rang the debtor (unsuccessfully) almost straight away, and also updated the case notes and sent them to me quickly. That's obviously the easy bit though. I'd already sent the debtor an LBA via a solicitor and had obtained the CCJ myself, so the next logical step was enforcement. However, I was advised by Redwood that the costs to do this were a whopping £407.75. I asked for a breakdown of these charges and was told that it included a £71.00 court fee, £51.75 solicitor cost, a £210.00 "handling fee" and a £75.00 compliance fee.

The Court fee is fair enough, but I can hardly see why the short application to the High Court (N293A) would merit the involvement of a solicitor as such. It's a very straightforward form. Also, the compliance fee is only payable after the first 7 days have elapsed, so in principle it's possible that the debtor actually pays the debt before this even becomes necessary. How can this be charged until such time as the High Court are instructed and have then confirmed that no payment has been received after 7 days? It's putting the cart before the horse.to charge the creditor a compliance fee this early on in the process.

The "handling" charge of £210 presumably goes directly to Redwood as profit. On the one hand I can understand that they are in the business to make money, but bear in mind that where you've already obtained a CCJ against the debtor yourself, that Redwood would also take 25% of any eventual monies recovered. Taking £210 in a handling fee is one thing, but charging 25% of any recovered debt seems excessive by any measure. It should be either one or the other - but not both.

Bear in mind that the creditor has already incurred Court fees to get to this point (in this case £70) - and to be faced with the prospect of incurring a further £408 just to get the case to the High Court, and with the distinct possibility that no money will ever get recovered - and there's frankly little incentive to do anything other than instruct the HCEO yourself. Frankly, they're the only ones who are likely to do the actual work to get results in a situation such as this.

I know that in theory that all costs are potentially recoverable from the debtor, but it just seems that with the excessive handling fee and 25%, that Redwood are doing little other than rely on the good offices of the High Court, while the creditor bears all the risks of running up considerable costs in the meantime with no guarantee. Some people may be willing to spend £70 + £408 to attempt recovery on a debt of £610, but I'm not one of them.

I've since spoken to the head of another debt collection agency who was frankly astonished that I was being asked to pay nearly £408 extra just to instruct the High Court bailiff. This has been an incredibly disappointing experience all round.

Received an email from REECE, demanding over £9,000 to a Phillips Removals and Deliveries.

Never heard of them, never dealt with this Removals Company.

Reece then says it’s an admin error and says same sum is owed to Team A5 Housing Provider.

But no, it isn’t. Monies are owed to Merton Council due to an overpayment of Housing Benefit and this is being repaid back to Merton through me not Team A5.

Proof sent to Reece showing email that Team A5 themselves received from Merton stating that Merton would be deducting from me via instalments.

Team A5 have received and Banked monies received from Merton and cannot show proof that they have paid any money back to Merton which would validate Team A5’s claim through Redwood Collections.

All parties commit offences through the Fraud Act 2006 for which I will take legal action against including Reece as he stands to gain or attempt to gain @ £1,800 in commission assuming he was successful in this fraudulent claim.

Team A5 produced a manipulated and fraudulent spreadsheet to Redwood whereby the amount that Merton were collecting from me was mingled in with payments already received to deceive and make a fraudulent claim.

Currently awaiting Team A5 to respond to Redwood and Reece’s communication to comment on the situation but clearly Team A5 are a liability to Redwood.

Reece also claimed that the account had been placed ‘on hold’ yet when I rang this morning, the agent said, no, there was nothing on the screen to indicate this.

Surely notes field shouid be updated to reflect this.

There is also a matter of Data Protection as any information held on an individual must be truthful and accurate and clearly here it isn’t and despite my providing proof of this to Reece and Redwood the data held continues to be inaccurate and untruthful.

***UPDATE*** Thu 02nd Nov 2023

Redwood have contacted TrustPilot alledging that I have not had an experience with Redwood and that TrustPilot and Redwood needs copies of emails or correspondence as proof.

Amazing seeing how there is sufficient info within the review for Redwood to speak to Reece Tomlin (Account Manager) as it’s abundantly clear that he most definitely knows what’s going on unless he’s trying to cover it up with his bosses!!

Trustpilot confirm receipt of proof of interaction with Redwood and apologise for the bad experience I have had with Redwood!! (Surely it is Redwood whom should be apologising, not TrustPilot, although I guess Redwood were abusing TrustPilot into manipulating the situation and attempting to have the valid and now VERIFIED by TrustPilot review removed.

The review will now remain since it has been verified.

I have used Redwood Collections for several years. Unfortunately in the medico legal field lawyers are very keen to secure your services but often very reluctant to pay you the agreed amount even given a long amount of time to do so. Redwood will pursue your debt for you for reasonable rates and are usually successful.

Done a great job for me. Collected £350 off a bad payer in the construction industry. Might not be much for some, but for small businesses it can be a life saver!

A very professional and approachable company to deal with. Very pleased with the results so far. Having a dedicated account manager who has a very good understanding of his clients is a bonus. Would not hesitate to continue to send them business.

I had an great experience with them. They helped me recover a bad debt that was due since 3 years in just 2 months.

Responsive team, multiple attempts to contact the debtor. I have received my money back. I hopefully won't have to use such services in the future but if I do - I'll definitely use them again!

Over the phone they told me that the handling fee for opening a case (in my case it was £50+VAT) it was going to be "waived" to our client, so I won't have to pay it.
I learnt late that the defaulter can choose to pay just the debt or, the debt plus the collector fee.
Obviously, what happen is the first, so I had to pay the fee myself.
Definitively Redwood collectors try to convince you to hire their services by not giving you the full information.

Avoid this company at all costs! Their website features a highly confusing form designed to trap clients into agreements quickly. If you're seeking advice only, do not reach out to them under any circumstances. They will initiate legal proceedings without hesitation and are now demanding a 15% + vat fee from clients for essentially doing nothing. Which is a substantial amount in my case.
