Poor service, wrong vehicle and still waiting for my refund after almost 2 months

I booked a Kia Sportage through VIP Cars, but when I arrived I was given a Kia Seltos instead. The vehicle was also in a poor condition, with dirty rear seats, including what appeared to be jelly or food residue, and the fuel level was almost empty.

This was particularly disappointing because I had booked and paid based on the vehicle advertised, and the car provided was not what I expected.

The rental was provided by Rental Cars UAE, which operates under VIP Cars. When I complained and personally went to their office, I was told that the matter would be resolved within 24 hours. That did not happen.

When I returned the vehicle, I was assured that my deposit would be returned within one month. VIP Cars later also confirmed that my deposit and a one-day rental refund would be paid.

However, almost two months later, I have still received neither the deposit nor the one-day rental refund. VIP Cars’ website states that deposits should be returned within 21 days, making the delay even more unacceptable.

I have repeatedly tried to contact VIP Cars regarding the outstanding money, but I am receiving no response. This is extremely frustrating after being given repeated assurances that the matter would be resolved.

The biggest issue for me is not simply the delay — it is the repeated promises and assurances that have not been followed through. I was told 24 hours, then one month, and the website says 21 days for the deposit. Yet I am still waiting almost two months later.

My advice to anyone booking through VIP Cars or Rental Cars UAE is to be extremely careful. Take photographs and videos of the vehicle before driving away, record the fuel level and condition, and keep all correspondence and promises made by staff.

Overall, a very disappointing experience from start to finish — receiving a different vehicle in poor condition, being given assurances that were not honoured, waiting almost two months for money that is still outstanding, and now struggling to even get a response.

Bad experience - must avoid

I booked through a third-party rental comparison site, and while the price looked attractive, the actual experience was extremely the worst.

I had to travel 15 km to a different pickup location as agreed, then waited over an hour despite multiple calls that went unanswered. Eventually, I had to travel another 15 km back to a separate location just to collect the car. At drop-off, there was another long wait for someone to come collect the vehicle at Sharjah Airport by which I had to leave the car in the parking lot.

After seeing the 1-star reviews on Trustpilot and also being unrated by Trustpilot due to fake reviews, I got worried about getting my deposit back and assumed I'd end up a victim too. I started following up early, and sure enough, customer service was extremely poor, unprofessional and untrained staff. Even the complaints team came across as defensive and took the comlaint so personally. After several attempts, I did eventually get my deposit back, which is the only reason I'm giving one extra star. Otherwise, this company doesn't deserve even one star, they clearly don't know how to treat their customers and show no real interest in retaining customers.

Lesson learnt and my advice: Avoid them at all costs. Don't be tempted by the low prices, you'll end up paying more for it in stress and anxiety instead. There are hundreds of reputed rental companies, chose the best not the cheapest.

First, they issued me a completely incorrect traffic fine, which clearly did not belong to me. Instead of resolving the issue professionally, they delayed the process and showed no urgency in correcting their own mistake. This caused unnecessary stress and wasted a significant amount of my time.
Their customer service is equally poor. The staff are unprofessional, unresponsive, and lack basic communication skills. It is very difficult to get clear answers or timely updates, and they do not take responsibility for their errors. You are left chasing them repeatedly for follow-up, with little to no support.
Overall, this company demonstrates a serious lack of accountability, organization, and customer care. Between the wrong fine, delayed handling, and unprofessional behavior, this has been one of the worst rental experiences I have encountered.
I strongly recommend choosing a more reliable and customer-focused rental agency to avoid similar frustration.

Worst rental experience ever. They showed a premium car in photos but delivered an old damaged vehicle, which completely ruined my image in front of my office client.

They took my AED 1500 deposit instantly, and now I’m still chasing them for the refund with no proper response. Feels less like a rental company and more like a money theft business.

Highly dishonest and unprofessional. Avoid them unless you want your money and time stolen.

Worst rental experience I’ve ever had. I booked a premium sedan weeks in advance, but at pickup they dumped an old basic hatchback on me and acted like it was completely normal. The staff was arrogant, careless, and clearly had no idea how to handle customers professionally. Every person gave a different excuse, and nobody took responsibility for anything.

They had no problem instantly charging my AED 3500 security deposit, but after returning the car, getting the refund became a nightmare. It has been over two months of nonstop follow-ups, ignored calls, fake promises, and zero accountability. Every time I contacted them, I was told to “wait a few more days,” yet nothing ever happened.

What kind of company takes payments immediately but makes customers run behind them for weeks just to get their own money back? Forcing customers to collect refund cheques manually from the office in 2026 is beyond ridiculous.

This company operates in a completely unethical and unprofessional manner. Avoid them at all costs unless you want stress, wasted time, and your money trapped indefinitely.

Scammers. They operate under multiple names.

They took a 2500 AED deposit (~$680) and still haven’t refunded it after more than 2 months. They seem to just hope you forget about it — and when you follow up, you barely get a response

They pick you up from the airport and take you to another location 15 mins away, Then you have to wait again for paperwork, and they try to charge you extra — took about 2.5 hours just to get the car. then i have to buy an old USB cable to get car play working since it old and doesn't have the wireless option - during rental they send an email saying if you late by one hour you will enroll in 3 days mandatory extension with double original price.

They also added me to a WhatsApp group with other people and shared my documents there, which is completely inappropriate.

The car itself was an old, cheap Chinese MG vehicle with visible damage all over not what was in the offer Mazda CX-5 - they said that they only available option.

Very bad experience overall. Avoid at all costs.

The experience with renting and returning the car was good, and I gave the company five stars for that, but a month and a half after the return, I still struggle to receive my deposit. The process is ridiculous. They ask me to send an email with all details. I did it. Nothing has happened. Then I write on WhatsApp to ask what’s going on. They ask me to provide a screenshot from the mail. I did it. Then again, nothing. After a few days, I ask them again. Again, they ask me for some confirmations about the bank details, confirming my name a few times, then the right plate numbers of the car I rented, and so on and so on. Still trying to get my money back. Until this moment, I can’t guess when or if I will be refunded.

I booked a car from them and the process was very smooth and professional, car was delivered to me, in a clean condition, and the staff were helpful and professional.

Today's car was delivered almost sharp on time. Car is clean. The driver Suhiel is supportive.
