Test drive
I didn’t expect to be test driving The Farmers Dog but was in the area and thought why not.
Arriving and already in the overflow car park I had low expectations but stepping in without a big queue was like stepping into a pair of old slippers …a traditional pub.
Two drinks ordered and my cost accelerated from 0 to £8.00 which is not excessive and handling is easy with fast service, feels nice and familiar like a proper pup should be. Comfortable seats ,some covered in fur! no furry dice in the windows but a tractor on the ceiling. You can’t help but smile when you test drive the farmers dog, people and staff all looking happy.
Toilets are the opposite to the Tardis from Doctor Who , you expect them to be massive from the outside but are tiny inside .
Really surprising as I expected some celebrity styled pub, but no it’s just a great British pub
Atmosphere good. Food good. Toilets disgusting
The atmosphere was good on a Friday evening. It was very busy but we were served promptly and were well looked after by the staff. The food was good but on the pricey side, also very limited choice.
Sadly the toilets let it down. The 2 ladies cubicles were filthy and the fittings were falling off the wall. The baby change was disgusting - doubt anyone would want to put a baby on the filthy changing mat.
Visited here with our beagle for lunch
Visit here with our beagle for lunch. Carpark was very busy but had parking attendants present. Car park was very muddy. On entering the pub the bar area was warm & welcoming
It was very busy even though it was midweek at 11:45am. Found a table in the bar area where we decided to have our lunch even though a very helpful lady ( host) offered us a table in the restaurant.
We ordered the sausage & mash, service was very quick
The meal was very tasty but not cheap
Also they charge a service charge.
Happy we visited but probably wouldn’t return
Great lunch at The Farmer's Dog
We went for lunch yesterday & it was great! Food a little pricey, but that's to be expected and it was delicious. We were so full we only managed one course. Ambience is great, staff very friendly & welcoming. I'd advise going midweek & getting the last lunchtime slot (2-3pm) because while it was busy it wasn't overcrowded & we were able to sit at our table early. It was great!
Excellent
We had a fantastic time and were looked after by Jasmine. She made our evening extra special. The food was delicious and there was a lovely atmosphere in the pub. Will definitely be back.
Disappointing
Nothing wrong with the pub, service and atmosphere but the food was very disappointing. The sausages were over cooked and had been waiting, the mash was like a school dinner, the onions tasteless and the gravy tasted as if it had been made with a stock cube. All in all it left a lot to be desired.
Wonderful food & exceptional value
Wonderful food & exceptional value. The staff are lovely attentive kind and good fun!!
Wonderful atmosphere
Wonderful atmosphere, great table at short notice, very pleasant surroundings & much better than most pubs in the UK. Staff very friendly & polite. Only things to point out is if possible, double the gravy amount, warm the food & keep it hotter from the oven - without microwave, add a few more vegetables…. I think there was 1 carrot & 1 brussel sprout on plate & finally, the ice cream scoop was the size of a small brussel sprout. Plus the service tip was over £10.00. If they can sort out these issues, 5 star review on next visit. Food & beer tasted great.
On the right pathway
Visited for an early dinner which had been booked several weeks in advance so we weren't waiting in a queue for a table. Service was a bit slow to get started which was a surprise because we'd pre-ordered, but tbh, we weren't in a rush so this wasn't a big deal to us. We had the 3-course Christmas dinner. It was delicious. I would agree with other reviews that comment on the dim lighting in the loo's, perhaps this could be improved? Otherwise the venue is warm, welcoming and measures up to its own PR. There is a time limit on the tables but as this venue is still new and very popular, it can sustain folk sitting at tables for a 'chat' after dinner. The bar is a decent size for guests who want to loiter post-dinner.
Food was far below average…
We had dinner last night at the pub for two of us.
First of all I’ve always been a fan of Jeremy and what he stands for.
Upon entry, the pub looks fantastic with great decoration and the bar looks very smart.
The dining area is another story. Take away the neat fairy lights on the ceiling and it looks like a Toby carvery. Carpet was filthy, the thud of house music and the decoration gave the completely opposite vibe for diners.
The food was far below average and you would think with such a small menu that it would come out tasty but the mash was like it came from a school canteen, the sausages overcooked and everything else felt like it had been pre-prepared days prior.
Sorry JC, but you’ve missed a trick here. The pub is half finished, the atmosphere is all wrong and I can’t believe in such a great area that the chefs can be that poor.
If you’re looking to go for a pint, go for it! But save your money for dinner, it was the worst meal we’ve had out this year. I really hope you can turn this around Jeremy and I hope this criticism can be taken positively because there is so much potential here, otherwise the novelty will soon wear off…
SO SO DISAPPOINTED
My husband booked a table at the Farmer's Dog as a surprise for my 70th birthday. After finding the pub, we saw that the car park was extremely busy and did not want to park in the overflow muddy car park, and luckily a spot for blue badge holders became free. So were lucky to be able to park nearer the pub. We booked in and went to the bar to get a drink and wait for our table to become free. Extremely busy as you can imagine, as everyone wants to see what JC's place is like. We were shown to our table after a short while, and asked our orders. We opted for the soup, main course and dessert. However at the end of each course, someone came over to ask if everything was alright which was ok the first time, but every course???? We understand that each table is allocated a certain time in order to eat one's meal and then move on. No sitting at the end of the meal to chat as so often is the case. I needed to visit the loo, before we left the pub and was absolutely disgusted by the state of the cubicles. Toilet tissue all over the floor, floor soaking wet, and a feeble light that desperately flickered in order to try to light the darkened cubicle. All in all a total and utter disappointment and not somewhere I would recommend anyone to go to. Of course I expect the brickbats and trolls will put me down over this, but I have had better tasting food and service in Wetherspoons, and I do not frequent those pubs very often. Even locals we spoke to at the bar, only come in for a drink, do not consider it value for money to eat in the restaurant. Would not go back under any circumstances.

Firstly i am a lifelong huge fan of Clarkson, and so today was my first opportunity to travel the 100 or so miles to visit Diddly Squat Farm and then on to the Farmers Dog pub for food and drinks with the family. Had a really enjoyable visit to the farm and made some purchases. We then drove the 9 ish miles to the Farmers Dog pub, However when we arrived at the pub at approx 1pm we found the car park operating a '1 in 1 out' as full up, i expected the pub to be very busy and to queue up, so i have no issue with this and was more than happy to wait my turn. I have a large estate car , and so when i was told by the car park attendant operating 'car park 2 exit ' to park in a very small space with a tree stump protruding out the ground - i didn't even chance it for fear of damaging my car or getting stuck and blocking the exit. I explained my car is too big . His response was to speak to me very rudely and insulting saying 'i should go home then'. This was very disappointing as there is no other areas to park near to the pub or walk in on foot. This experience took the shine off an enjoyable day. I will treat this as a one off and will return next year in a smaller car!
