Finger weg.Es wurde mir am Flughafen in Málaga eine zusätzliche Versicherung verkauft die für mich so nicht ersichtlich war und ich gar nicht benötigte. War bei meiner Buchung inkludiert. Booking.com über die ich gebucht habe, war im Glauben, die arbeiten mit seriösen Partner zusammen, waren bei meiner Reklamation auch keine Hilfe.

Scam artists at the desk. Deliberately charged me for insurance I didn't need (because I had prepaid for zero excess insurance). They charged me without asking, and it appeared on the bill under a heading of 'Pre-paid charges'. It's basically fraud. Avoid!

Anmietung & Rückgabe am Flughafen Sevilla. Insgesamt problemlos & unkompliziert, freundliches Personal, nahezu neues Auto, vollgetankt, sauber, ohne Schäden.
Wagen vorab über billiger-mietwagen.de gebucht und bezahlt.
Thrifty-Schalter am Flughafen leicht zu finden. Mehrere Unterschriften, Kaution wird via Kreditkarte geblockt. Eingangs direkt & klar gesagt: "No further insurances"; es folgte auch kein Versuch, Zusatzversicherungen anzudrehen.
Also: Insgesamt positive Erfahrung, zumindest in Sevilla.

Wish I’d seen all these reviews before I rented. I thought Thrifty was a name I could trust. What a joke of a company scamming money left right and centre. They give you cheap ass rubbish cars, not the one you think you’re getting, namely a Dacia. Secondly, the fuelling policy is a joke. The policy is full/empty which is in the small print, so you pay their premium price for the fuel (so around €80-€90) plus €60 service charge for them to do that AND you have to leave a €1000 as a deposit for the fuel…other option is to change the policy to full/full which costs €120. I chose that option to which they charged another €410 to my card…god knows why. So currently I have paid nearly €700 for 5 days rental of a sh!tty Dacia. Ridiculous

Worst car rental experience ever – Avoid Thrifty Málaga!

We booked a car via Check24 with full insurance included. At the Thrifty counter in Málaga Airport, we were pressured to buy an extra insurance for €50 per day. We clearly said NO.

At first, they pretended to accept that, but then we found out they had secretly added the extra insurance to the contract anyway. When we asked them to remove it, they refused to give us the car keys and canceled our booking without our consent.

The staff was extremely rude and unprofessional – they laughed at us, made us feel stupid, and didn’t even give a real name (the person said “Maria” after a long pause while laughing).

Every other customer we saw had the same issue: either you pay the ridiculous extra insurance or you don’t get a car. We saw families with kids giving up and paying just to avoid wasting their vacation.

This is pure scam, totally disrespectful, and a horrible experience. We lost almost an entire vacation day and had to rent another car elsewhere at a much higher price.

Do NOT rent from Thrifty Málaga. Stay away!

Es wurde mir am Flughafen in Alicante eine zusätzliche Versicherung verkauft die für mich so nicht ersichtlich war und ich gar nicht benötigte. War bei meiner Buchung inkludiert. Nach meiner Reklamation wurde der Betrag trotzdem abgebucht. Check24 über die ich gebucht habe, war im Glauben, die arbeiten mit seriösen Partner zusammen, waren bei meiner Reklamation auch keine Hilfe.
Eigentlich schade, da alles Andere gepasst hat.

I hired a car from Thrifty in Girona on a trip to Spain recently.
The car was great but had a large dent which was undeclared so I took pictures and documented this to them.
Returned the car and the deposit was returned.
A few days later almost €70 was charged to my credit card.
It took me two weeks to reach someone over the phone (number eventually provided by airline).
Initially I spoke with someone from Hertz who told me she could not help unless I had the rental number on the slip of paper provided at the airport..name/booking number/email would not suffice.
When I eventually located this document she told me it had nothing to do with them, though I advised her that Hertz was the first word in the debit applied to my credit card.
She rudely ignored this and passed me over directly to a colleague who I guess was sitting beside her.
This person told me the car had not been returned full.
I have proof it was, as I prepaid money at the pump and it would not take all this fuel so I had to go to the checkout and have the amount recredited to my account.
Disgraceful, lies, rude, theft...I'm sure they do this to lots of unsuspecting people.
I rented from them last year without any issues and they have since changed their name. This automatically heightened my awareness, hence why I kept an eye on my account.

Thrifty in Malaga scammed us!
We were supposed to pay €250 for the rental, but later we were charged €1,400. They added outrageous extra costs, including €300 for cleaning and €600 for a supposedly missing "car tray" (“bandeja de coche”) along with other random fees.
We know 100% that the part they claimed was missing was not in the car when we picked it up. They are completely dishonest, not helpful at all, and very rude. It’s clear they are scamming customers.

Mi experiencia de alquiler con Thrifty fue extremadamente decepcionante debido a un cargo de combustible injustificado. Al recoger el vehículo, la pantalla del coche mostraba claramente una autonomía de 580 KM. Cuando devolví el coche, me aseguré de llenarlo, y mi evidencia fotográfica confirma que la pantalla mostraba 680 KM de autonomía. Esto demuestra inequívocamente que devolví el coche con aproximadamente 8 a 9 litros más de combustible de lo que lo recibí.

A pesar de mencionar esta situación al devolverlo, me cobraron un cargo adicional por "combustible faltante" y otros 60 EUR por "servicio y administración". Esta práctica es inaceptable y se siente como un intento de beneficiarse injustamente a costa de los clientes. He disputado formalmente este cargo con ellos, pero no responden a mis correos electrónicos, y también estoy gestionando una devolución de cargo a través de mi compañía de tarjeta de crédito.

Urjo a cualquiera que esté considerando alquilar con esta agencia a ser extremadamente prudente! Tomen fotografías de todo al recoger y devolver el vehículo y revisen sus extractos de tarjeta de crédito con mucho cuidado. Esta experiencia ha eliminado mi confianza en Thrifty (pensé que al ser parte del Grupo Hertz significaría una compañía honesta, pero sus prácticas son completamente diferentes). Eviten posibles dolores de cabeza y busquen una agencia alternativa si es posible.

I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with Thrifty Car Hire in Malaga. Upon collecting the car, I explained that I had already purchased full insurance coverage with Thrifty at the time of booking, along with a separate excess waiver. The staff member at the desk acknowledged this and confirmed I was fully covered.
However, I noticed an additional charge on the rental agreement and asked about it. I was told it was simply a refundable fuel deposit and nothing to worry about. Trusting that explanation, I proceeded with the rental.
After returning the car in perfect condition and arriving back home, I discovered that the charge had been taken from my account — and it appears to be for some sort of additional insurance I never agreed to. I was completely misled at the desk and feel scammed into paying for something I explicitly declined.
This experience has made me lose all trust in Thrifty and their practices. Be extremely cautious when renting here- double-check everything, and don’t take verbal assurances at face value. I will not be using Thrifty again and would not recommend them to others based on this experience.

Recently hired a car from Thrifty at Corvera airport, had originally hired an SUV but was given a ford focus, I upgraded to their full insurance cover at a cost of €263 and was told they would take a little extra to cover a fuel deposit which is normal. I was expecting to get a refund of €137 and was shocked to only get €34 back, I then noticed I had been charged a €42 Airport Tax along with the Insurance costs and both had then been subjected to VAT. Everyone calls Goldcar but they’ve never ripped me off before. Thrifty will get no more business from us as we are regular visitors to Corvera.

Ein sehr unseriöses Unternehmen, welches alles versucht um mehr Kosten für den Kunden entstehen zu lassen. Es wird eine Fahrzeugübergabe ohne eine wirkliche Übergabe durchgeführt. Schäden, die vor der Anmietung bei der Übergabe entdeckt werden, müssen separat per Mail reklamiert werden. Zudem haben wir in Barcelona einmal falsch geparkt, nur die Bearbeitungsgebühr durch Thrifty beträgt 50€, das ist nicht die Gebühr für das Falschparken, sondern nur die Bearbeitungsgebühr von Thrifty. Ich miete beruflich sehr regelmäßig Autos und habe so was unseriöses noch nicht erlebt. Nicht empfehlenswert!

Wij huurden een auto op Malaga Airport in juni. Bij afhalen toonde ik de factuur van een omniun verzekering bij reservatie. De dame aan de balie vroeg mij om met mijn credit card de borg te betalen. Dit bedrag zou geblokkeerd worden tot ik de wagen terug bracht.
De wagen brachten wij terug , prima in orde, vol getankt zoals gevraagd.
Toen ik thuis mijn afrekening kreeg van mijn credit card zag ik dat ze 223.33€ aangerekend hadden als extra verzekering.
Deze firma werkt onder Hertz, wat je zou denken dat je met een betrouwbare firma in zee gaat. Of wel hebben daar enkele medewerkers een handeltje opgezet.
Dit is zeker oplichting waar iedereen moet voor gewaarschuwd worden. Nooit meer.

Our experience with Thrifty in Málaga was chaotic and deeply frustrating. We waited in line for over 40 minutes in a hot, crowded hall with other exhausted travelers at 1 AM – including families with small children.

When we finally reached the counter, we were met by a woman who appeared to be the manager on duty (long dark hair, glasses, wearing a blue Thrifty polo). She tried to charge us additional fees of 47€ and dismissed our documented proof of arrival time. Even worse, she spoke disrespectfully about us in Spanish to her colleague – which someone in our group understood.

When confronted, she denied everything and showed no willingness to help. This was hands down the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I strongly advise against using this company.

Shocking when we returned car guy walked up to it and quickly pointed out small faint 3cm graze on plastic of wing mirror. I could not say if was there on pick up but I certainly did not cause it. Charged 127 euros for new mirror. Guy himself said "I'm just doing my job" when ai suggested really nit picking. I would NEVER use again

Achtung Abzocke - keine Weiterempfehlung!

Über billiger-mietwagen.de buchten wir den "Rundum-sorglos-Sieger" und haben sogar Unterlagen in DE + ES erhalten, dass der Wagen umfänglich versichert ist und wir keine weiteren Versicherungen benötigen.
Wie bei Mietwagen-Anbietern generell üblich wurde dennoch versucht zusätzliche Versicherungen anzudrehen. Nach Ablehnung war jede Freundlichkeit beim Personal verschwunden.
Es wurde vereinbart, dass der Schlüssel via Schlüsselbox abgegeben wird, da unser Rückflug vor den Geschäftszeiten ging.

Der Wagen wurde in unbeschädigtem Zustand abgestellt; es folgte dann jedoch nach einigen Tagen eine Schadensforderung. Die angeblichen Schäden wurden mit sehr schlechten Fotos "belegt" und aufgrund der Abgabe des Schlüssels in der Box nicht von der Versicherung übernommen.

FAZIT: Lange Wartezeiten beim Abholen (ca. 45-60 Min.), kein Service und dreiste Abzocke-Maschen!

***TIPPS: Bucht eine zusätzliche Versicherung über vertrauenswürdigere Drittanbieter, dokumentiert IMMER den abgegebenen Mietwagen mit Fotos/Videos und versucht die Abgabe via Schlüsselbox zu vermeiden – nur Ärger.

He rentado con Thrifty a través de booking, primero he llamado antes, a confirmar informaciones y cuando llego "me informaron mal". He pedido pagar el seguro con ellos y me informa que aún así me quieren hacer varios cargos sin sentido en mi tarjeta, hubiera entendido el cargo del combustible. En fin anulé la reserva, aun perdiendo la mitad del dinero, mal negocio. He rentado multiples veces y nunca me habia pasado.

Having turned up at Corvera airport at Thrifty rental desk we checked in and went through the paperwork. I showed the man that I had excess insurance already so did not need any further cover which he accepted. I used my credit card for the deposit and off I went.
It was only when I returned home and they debited my credit card with extra insurance cover. As the agent saw I had cover and even said I didnt need anything else he clearly then debited my card intentionally to rip me off.... I booked via Discover cars who want nothing to do with my complaint and told me to 'sort it myself' with Thrifty..... I wont be using either again!

Update to above post:
Thrifty/Hertz have now tried to insinuate that the fee charged was a parking fee that was pointed out when the rental agreement was signed. They are saying that I am paying a fee for the parking of the car at the Thrifty depot before it was collected! The car was collected at the time that was requested on the booking so either you new pay for their parking costs at the airport or they are lying.... Im assuming the latter as the charge is for 'smart cover' which apparently is charged when you dont want your credit card debited with a deposit. This was not requested as my CC has plenty of available credit and this charge has been levied covertly. Unbelievable that such a company can be so dishonest and get away with it.

Nach einem 16-stündigen Flug musste ich fast zwei Stunden auf mein Mietfahrzeug warten. Ohne klare Erklärung wurde mir ein Upgrade berechnet, das ich nicht gebucht oder gewünscht habe. Dies geschah in einem Zustand völliger Erschöpfung. Die Zusatzkosten habe ich erst später auf der Rechnung entdeckt.
Insgesamt eine undurchsichtige und frustrierende Erfahrung.
Fazit: Intransparente Kommunikation, lange Wartezeiten, unklare Zusatzkosten – Ich kann Thrifty überhaupt nicht weiterempfehlen.
