Just like everything else today

Just like everything else today, another poor and shoddy company that once they take your money, suddenly they are unavailable. Absolutely no way to contact these companies. Phone call, makes you put in account number, makes you hear a load of options that probably nobody wants, sends you a text to set up Whatspp regardless if you want it and then rings off, no way to email them , but happily take 2 lots of money when they should take one. A disgrace.

Repeated contact despite valid declaration – complaint ignored

I made a formal No Licence Needed declaration which TV Licensing confirmed in writing as valid until Spring 2026. Despite this assurance, I continue to receive letters asking if I need a licence.

I raised a formal complaint, was given a reference number, and asked for an explanation as to why I was being contacted during the validity period they themselves set out. No explanation was provided — only the same repeated “No Licence Declaration” response.

This is both confusing and frustrating. It shows a serious failure in communication and customer service, and undermines any trust in the process. If TV Licensing sets a validity period, they should honour it instead of harassing people with unnecessary letters.

Wish I could give them zero stars!

Sending me red letters for a previous owner, spent a lifetime on the phone explaining it and they agreed to remove the duplicate entry - but I still get them sent to me.

Tried calling them again today, but after 4 minutes of automated messages and options - it told me it was ending the call as the staff are busy (no holding system).

It also told me to use WhatsApp, which was the same - I answered multiple questions and eventually got told the staff are too busy to help and the chat was ended!

Awful establishment, forcing us to pay for channels we don't want.

Truly one of the weirdest customer…

Truly one of the weirdest customer service experiences ever. You have asked me to confirm I don't need a licence. Yet every avenue of contact ends in a roadblock. Phone, text, online, WhatsApp. Everything ends with me not being able to complete this very basic task. I really shouldn't be surprised though. An absolute mess everywhere.

Constant Harassment Despite My Declaration

I submitted an application confirming that I do not need a TV licence (reference ND1098164329), yet I continue to receive threatening letters. I tried calling their helpline, but after going through endless automated menus, the line finally says I will be connected to someone—only to then say they are busy and hang up.

I have now submitted another declaration (reference 4284899953) and sincerely hope this puts an end to the harassment.

On their phone system, they talk about “Respect.” I wish they would show even a basic level of respect by either:

Checking their system when someone declares they do not need a licence

Answering their phones properly

Or stopping the threatening letters

I do not watch live TV. I only use Netflix. If they want to visit, they are welcome, but I am tired of being harassed with letters.

Also, the process to declare that you don’t need a licence is unnecessarily complicated—it feels like navigating a maze. This shows a lack of respect for customers.

Absolutely pathetic

Absolutely pathetic. Been waiting for more then a week to recieve a call from them regarding lowering the amount of my tv licence. But they Absolutely rubbish they don't give a toss.

Blatant discrimination against those suffering dementia

Absolutely disgusted by TV licensing.
My father has dementia and was moved to a care home. Very difficult to cancel the TV licence. I cancelled the direct debit, now the letters don’t stop.
The website is hopeless, so I tried speaking to a person and I explained I was his legal power of attorney and my father no longer lives at the address.
I was told they needed to speak to him!
This is clear discrimination under the mental capacity act.
I tried again to try and cancel online and thought I had suceeded, but they still send letters, threatening fines etc.
The complaints process online is almost impossible to initiate. All they want you to do is pay for a licence! Would be a joke if these weren’t such serious matters.

I set up a direct debit after I moved back into my property and never received my tv licence by post which was how I only wanted communications. I checked today 19/08/2025 and have 7 months left of paying £14.12 DD which I’ve calculated at £98.84. All I wanted to do was pay it all off but that proved impossible! They design a set limited automatic questions and none applied to me, but they always sent me a What’s App link after I tried to interrupt by saying “NO I do not use it!” It got hacked years ago and in my own experience is the ideal playground of the cyber criminal. I spent a number of hours trying by calling a different telephone number in the hope of speaking to a human but they have set it up to make that impossible. On one call, I progressed through TV Licensing more efficiently and then I arrived at an automated voice which should have allowed me to fully pay off the remainder. The automated service was Pay Point and as I do not use it, I pulled out fast! I tried calling another number to complain to a human, but in order to do so, I needed to give them my Pay Point Number and as I don’t use this service, I couldn’t even complain! The only way forwards is to contact them by post, because they’ve taken care of all other numbers under their automated service control and their set criteria doesn’t answer my question, doesn’t permit me to pay if off in full. I wonder if the cyber criminal who previously hacked my What’s App years ago, is also using my ID to access a Pay Point which they might not have been able to do if they wasn’t a legitimate UK customer with a proven address and id?

Why are you guys complaining and paying this when you actually don't have to? Don't be conned and threatened into paying these corrupt little gang. I know plenty of who haven't paid for 20 odd years!! And guess what nothing has happened the same letter gets sent out because ita computer generated you can see this when you type In the ID code on the paper it will come up with a generated one which everyone gets. They're hope is for enough people to get fooled by this so they can extort people for their money. Do some research do not respond to them and you will see nothing will ever happen. TOTALLY INCOMPETENT

I have been sent a warning letter about an official investigation with my name against a wrong address. There is no way other than by telephone to respond. There is no address on the TV Dept's letter to respond to by explanatory letter. There is no email address to respond to.
I have paid by direct debit for decades. Neighbours tell me who the culprits actually are which I would have advised the TV people if they had provided an easy response mechanism. They have been careless in selecting the wrong address and attaching it to my name with a threatening letter. Apparently the regional Manager issuing this threat is called Scott Robson. Clearly someone who pays no attention to detail. I require an apology for both the threatening letter and the time it has taken to attempt a written response when I could not proceed beyond a very limited robot.
I hope someone in TV licensing monitors Trustpilot and they make the effort to issue an apology and correct their details on file. My own file admin details and direct debit history are all correct and up to date. These people must learn to pay attention to detail and stop bothering innocent licence holders with nonsensical nasty correspondence

Frustration

I agree with all points expressed by others and feel incredibly frustrated. After sending intimidating letters last year and telling me that I would not be contacted for another year (to confirm again that I still didn’t need TV), I’ve just received another letter after no longer than 8 months. The letter arrived a few days ago (today is August 4th) but said I needed to respond by 18 July.

I am furious with this organisation I have told them years now i don't watch television i don't use their services period they aren't entitled to any money at all as they contribute nothing to my household this is blatantly attempted extortion which is against the law should they continue these unfounded slanderous accusations i will be consulting a lawyer

SPAM, SPAM, SPAM !!!

For so many years, these people won't understand that their letters are extremely annoying to say the least.

If people wanted to watch their programmes illegally, they would have and will find a way.

In an age where on demand TV is the standard, it seems so desperate and intrusive to one's privacy and peaceful living to have to receive their threatening and letters over and over again.

It is an absurd.
