Like an idiot I was lulled into the…

Like an idiot I was lulled into the idea that my wifes watch would sell over Christmas. On that basis I failed to pick up the small print ,I need the money and have been advised its stuck there until october.

This site although professional and courteous had not delivered and given I need to sell the watch I will need to pay approx £900 to get it back

BE WARNED IF YOU NEED THE SALE TO TAKE PLACE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER

We did recently have an exchange where i was able to explain the situation and we also agreed to review the price at which we have you watch listed. This has been actioned and we hope this will entice the right buyer.
We are indeed disappointed that we have not managed to find a buyer over Christmas but at the same time given the market conditions are in no position to make any guarantees on the sale time of your watch.

INCOMPETENT - NOT IN CONTROL

It's been now 3 months my watch, with many other watches, were stolen because of WATCHMASTER's lack of security. We are now in February: I understand from the message I get from them that, (i) they do not control AT ALL how much their insurance company is going to reimburse, (ii) they do not know when the reimbursement will be done demonstrating a total LACK OF CONTROL, (iii) they forbid my insurance company to claim my money back. Again a proof of LACK OF RESPECT for its customers. This adds up to the fact WATCHMASTER will steal me (like all the people who got stolen their watches) 25% of a commission they do not deserve. Who can trust such company ? I would strongly advise to customers thinking of selling their watches TO AVOID WATCHMASTER and sell it to another much more professional platform on the market. PS: I was counting on this money to pay holidays to my kids last Christmas. I could not do it because of this. WORST EXPERIENCE -

It is indeed a hugely frustrating situation, which we are doing everything we can to get resolved.
As it stands (as we have recently communicated) we are waiting on the insurance company to conclude their investigations and this is currently waiting on the Police report. Once these things conclude we will be in a position to to offer a more meaningful update. In the meantime we can but thank you for your continued patience.

Je n'ai aucun retour de leur part, ni de ma montre.

A terrible experience!

A terrible experience!! We made a deal for them to sell my watch. When they discovered that my country was not a full member of the eu, they did not want to pay tax into Germany. They just cancelled the deal. The watch took about 3 months to return to me and a lot of work from my side. After having being really clear on wanting a weekly update on the progress (this was after nearly two months) I was promised this. I think I got a mail once without me having to ask.
When I was frustrated and let them know how I felt,I got a threat back on that they would stop working I’m my case.
Horrible experience and I will never use again. Neither will anyone I know.

Je tiens à apporter mon soutien aux propriétaires victime du vol, ainsi qu’à Watchmaster… Je suis allé acheter une montre à leur boutique de Paris ce mois ci, rien à dire à ce sujet, la montre est conforme à la description, elle est en très bon état…. J’en ai profité pour parler avec eux de cette histoire de cambriolage, je peux vous assurer, en ayant discuté avec un commercial, qu’ils font au mieux pour que ce litige soit réglé le plus rapidement possible. J’espère pour eux et les clients que ce sera le cas en tout cas.

Watchmaster: Ein Mal und nie mehr wieder

An alle, die eine Uhr verkaufen möchten: Leute, lasst die Finger davon. Ich habe eine Rolex Daytona Bicolor an Watchmaster in Kommission abgegeben und bin leider auch von dem Raub betroffen. Ich hatte mich extra an Watchmaster gewandt, da mir ein Privatverkauf zu unsicher erschien und das Unternehmen mit einer entsprechenden Versicherung für die übersandte Uhr aktiv warb und auch noch gegenwärtig wirbt.

Man wird zunächst mit völlig überhöhten Verkaufspreisen geködert, welche vollkommen unrealistisch sind. Auch meine Naivität und Unerfahrenheit wurde ausgenutzt.

Watchmaster hält nun seine Kommittenten seit fast drei Monaten mit irgendwelchen fadenscheinigen Ausreden und Standardfloskeln hin. Zwischenzeitlich wurde schnell Insolvenz angemeldet, um einer Haftung für den Schaden entgehen zu können.

Letztlich wird es so sein, dass das Insolvenzverfahren eröffnet wird und die Gläubiger nach Jahren mit einer Quote (2-5% des eigentlichen Wertes) bedient werden.

Mittlerweile antwortet das Unternehmen noch nicht einmal mehr auf E-Mails.

Verkauft die Uhren entweder an einen stationären Händler vor Ort oder in einem seriösen Forum privat. Von einem Verkauf auf Kommissionsbasis kann ich nur dringend abraten. Ihr habt dann keine tatsächliche Verfügungsgewalt mehr über euer Eigentum und seid im Ernstfall der, der auf seinem Schaden sitzen bleibt.

We have been taking advice since the outset both to ensure the insurance claim is handled as swiftly as possible and such that we can protect all those affected and to maximise any reimbursement.
We are beholden to the processes which must now be followed by the police and the insurance company to ensure the matter can be settled as swiftly as possible.

3 février 2023….. bien au dela des 14 jours qu’il fallait attendre pour avoir des nouvelles de l’assureur de ces escrocs.
Bien sûr, les 14 jours mentionnés dans leur dernier mail à l’endroit des victimes du vol des montres confiées à watchmasters etaient juste pour botter en touche.
Comme beaucoup, je cherche à me joindre à d’autres victimes, pour entamer une procédure européenne à l’encontre de cette enseigne.
Pour les chanceux n’ayant pas encore été arnaqués, restez bien loin de ces voleurs

Nous comprenons parfaitement votre situation et tenons à nous excuser une fois de plus pour les conséquences de ce vol.

Dans notre dernière communication, nous avons mentionné une mise à jour attendue de la part de nos assureurs, dans les 14 jours suivant la date de notre dernière communication. Malheureusement, nous n'avons toujours pas reçu cette mise à jour et nous poursuivons activement les assureurs pour obtenir cette mise à jour et toute autre information que nous pourrions fournir concernant l'avancement et les détails de la réclamation. Dès qu'une telle mise à jour sera disponible, elle sera partagée directement avec toutes les parties concernées.

A l'heure actuelle, la police doit encore conclure son enquête, ce qui constitue la prochaine étape principale du processus.

Lorsque nous aurons plus d'informations, nous communiquerons afin de résoudre rapidement ces circonstances inattendues et frustrantes.

Uhr gekauft und bezahlt, aber noch nicht erhalten

Ich habe über Watchmaster eine Armbanduhr gekauft und bereits bezahlt. Überwiesen habe ich nicht an Watchmaster, sondern an die Firma, welche die Uhr auch "tatsächlich" verkauft. Der Zahlungseingang wurde bestätigt. Die Lieferung sollte bereits erfolgt sein. Jetzt wird mir mitgeteilt, dass es zu Lieferverzögerungen gekommen ist. Okay, das kann ja mal passieren. Aber ich hoffe doch, dass ich meine Uhr auch wirklich erhalte, und dass das aufgrund der aktuellen Situation (Insolvenz) nicht irgendeine "Verzögerungstaktik" ist....

À l'heure actuelle, aucun des clients concernés n'a reçu de paiement, car nous sommes toujours en contact étroit avec la compagnie d'assurance pour traiter la demande d'indemnisation. À ce stade, ils attendent la conclusion de l'enquête de police pour traiter les demandes d'indemnisation. Ils nous demandent toujours de gérer toute la communication entourant l'incident et la réclamation qui en découle. Veuillez comprendre que nous nous conformons à cette demande afin de permettre le traitement du dossier par les assureurs de manière aussi fluide et efficace que possible. La première priorité de la compagnie d'assurance devrait être de traiter la demande d'indemnisation.

Nous comprenons que la priorité de nos clients qui ont été affectés est de récupérer leur argent. C'est notre véritable objectif à ce stade, mais nous ne savons toujours pas quand ces demandes seront traitées.

Nous nous excusons sincèrement pour le désagrément et la frustration que ce vol vous a fait subir, à vous et aux autres clients concernés.

They have had my watch since July 2022

They have had my watch since July 2022. I was sold the dream by one of their sales people, who has since left. It wasn’t clear at all about the “penalty fee” when I signed the contract. I was in fact told that there is no fee I just need to pay for what watchmaster has done. Take a few pictures! The part about the 365 days IS NOT in the contract. It just refers you to their terms and conditions. Contacted them and asked for my watch back but they just start talking about the contract. I just want the watch back without paying them a fee.

Thank you for confirming your details and I am very sorry that market forces have gotten in the way of our meeting your expectations.
We make no secret of our contract terms and the sales timelines that were no doubt forecast during your initial conversations with Marcus early last year were at the time quite accurate.
In most cases the contract term doesn't even come up as 80% of our watches sell well before the contract term becomes relevant.
Our contract is framed on 1 sheet of A4 with all of the salient and relevant terms presented for our consignees to review. It discloses the agreement length quite clearly there.

Arnaque watchmaster

Une société d’escrocs qui, après m’avoir averti du vol de ma montre, m’envoie des mails à peine français m’expliquant qu’il y a peu de chance que leur assurance prenne en charge le remboursement tout en continuant à m’envoyer des mails vantant leurs prestations et me proposant des montres certifiées…
Je vais donc porter plainte
Il serait bien, à la lecture des nombreux commentaires de ce type, d’entamer une procédure collective afin d’essayer de faire en sorte que cette escroquerie cesse
Si quelqu’un sait comment créer un espace sur Facebook ou tout autre réseau social permettant de nous unir pour porter plainte collectivement, je suis preneur

J'aimerais réitérer le message dans nos autres récentes réponse à des clients tout aussi en détresse et frustrés qui ont également été malheureusement touchés par le cambriolage du 19.

Tous les articles ont été assurés conformément à nos précédentes communications directement à vous.

Malheureusement, la valeur cumulée des articles volés fait de l'événement de perte important pour les assureurs, ce qui signifie un examen beaucoup plus important dans leurs enquêtes. De même, l'enquête policière n'a pas encore pris fin. Je suis sûr que vous pouvez comprendre que l'enquête policière doit être achevée et que la compagnie d'assurance doit répondre à leurs questions avant qu'un règlement puisse être conclu.

Nous regrettons profondément que vous ayez été touché, mais nous sommes maintenant en consédés au processus décrit ci-dessus.

I would like to reiterate the message in our other recent responses to similarly distressed and frustrated customers who were also unfortunately impacted by the burglary on the 19th.
All of the items were insured as per our previous communications to you directly.

Unfortunately the cumulative value of the items stolen renders the loss event a significant one for the insurers meaning far greater scrutiny in their investigations. Similarly the police investigation is yet to conclude. I am sure you can appreciate that both the police investigation needs to complete and the insurance company need to satisfy their questions before any settlement can be reached.
We deeply regret that you have been impacted, but are now beholden to the process outlined above.
What I can assure you is that everything we can do to streamline the process and ensure its swift resolution is being done.

Do not sell / consign your watch to Watchmaster!

This is not about the robbery that took place in Germany recently. This is about the despicable practice that Watchmaster employs, to lure customers to consign their watches to them for sale, on a consignment basis, that has a borderline illegal and unreasonable ONE year minimum term!
Imagine giving your watch to a company for ONE YEAR without any right, or recourse? Just waiting for them to come back to you when sold?
The worst part is, actually two parts -
1. the 365-day 'term' is 'disguised' in small prints, below the larger prints about your watch, commission and listing fees etc. It is not highlighted, nor even discussed, let alone revealed to you! Not at all! So, as soon as you hand over your watch you have no control or possession of your watch.
2. PENALTY for 'early termination' - this is the part that hurts and that is totally unreasonable and unacceptable. In all consignment contracts, the customer has the right to know whether he can terminate the contract or not. Most consignment contracts, typically a consignment to the auction houses, are short and the agreed period openly advised to the customer. Eg Sotheby's would tell you the next sale is on 1 July, and you know that after that date, if the watch is not sold, you get it back. NO COMMISSION or penalty.
Watchmaster has a sneaky clause that says, like above, you don't have any rights for one year, and worse, if you want it back you have to pay them the commission! 15%.
The biggest con of the watch industry is not the robbery or the inflated prices. It is this type of sneaky unreasonable clause that catches the customers. it seems that WM's revenue comes from the inspecting and trusting customer. WM makes money from the customers, the consignors; NOT from the ultimate buyers.
Tell me, how many consignors were told by WM of this extremely long and onerous 365-day term? How many have been warned of the penalty? None. Because WM admitted as much. They don't want to scare you off!!!
Is that how you run a business? Hiding an essential and critical clause from thee other party? If the consignor were made aware of this onerous term, of course most would walk away. But perhaps some might still go ahead, but that is their choice. WM never gave us the choice.
So, beware and be careful. There are plenty of decent watch traders out there who would be upfront and honest with you regarding their fees, and modus operandi. None of them would trick you into parting with your watch for one year.
I wish the owner in Germany is aware of this practice. If he did, but condoned the practice, then he deserves the fate that befell his company last year.

I would very much appreciate an opportunity to discuss this with you, I am unable to identify your account in our systems from the information you have supplied.
We do indeed have a minimum term on our agreements and we make no secret of that. In 80% of cases the watch sells long before the agreement term even becomes relevant. As such there certainly are occasion where this might not be discussed.
Nevertheless we most certainly are not seeking to withhold this information. Our agreements are one page of A4 and deliberately cover the salient points relevant to the decision maker, including the the agreement length.

Nevertheless it would appear we have not made this clear enough for you and I would like to put this right, such that we can reach a mutually agreeable resolution.

Circumstances are currently quite different between the UK and the German business so I might be restricted as to what I can offer depending on which business you are trading with but I would nevertheless be grateful of the opportunity to explore your options together.

It is indeed difficult times for Watchmaster Germany but despite their unfortunate challenges, they’ve honored the agreements signed off prior to the robbery.
Tim-Hendrik Meyer has expressed an outstanding ability to acknowledge the situation from my perspective and has acted accordingly by initiating alternative routes to ensure that I - at the end of the day - was satisfied with the collaboration. Today, as announced by Watchmaster, I received my vintage Patek which in fact is even more beautiful in real life than on pictures.

As both a buyer and a seller with…

As both a buyer and a seller with Watchmaster UK I have been extremely satisfied with their value and service.
I was worried by the events at the German company, however Watchmaster reassured me that they are a separate entity and I did indeed receive payment fully for a recent watch sold on my behalf.
I would not hesitate to buy or sell with Watchmaster in the future and hope to do so. Watchmaster offer a much better value that anything you will find elsewhere.
This said, please understand their contract which seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Do NOT use

They have had my watch since October 2022. They missed two weeks around what is expected to be a busy buying period around the end of November for Black Friday. I asked to have MY watch returned and they advised there is a Termination Fee, which is their commission charge (£589). This Termination Fee information is not openly disclosed or discussed. I would not recommend and suggest using other online companies.

We too are sorry not to have found a buyer for your watch yet.
All of our consignment contract have a fixed term of 12 months. It is unusual for this even to be important as the vast majority of watches are sold well before the contract term come to an end.
I am sorry you feel this is frustrating but we do need to be confident that we will have a fair runway of time in which to find a buyer.

Acquistato un Jlc a novembre, a dicembre mi scrivono che a causa di procedura di fallimento non possono ne rimborsarmi ne spedire l’orologio. Stranamente però il mio orologio è stato rimesso in vendita anziché a disposizione del giudice fallimentare.

Questa è una situazione profondamente frustrante anche per noi e scomoda.
Operiamo sotto le istruzioni del curatore fallimentare preliminare nominato dal tribunale e in conformità con il diritto fallimentare tedesco.
Hanno spiegato che non possiamo evadere il tuo ordine o rimborsarlo, in quanto ciò mostrerebbe un trattamento preferenziale a uno dei nostri creditori.
Allo stato attuale sei stato aggiunto all'elenco formale dei creditori con White e Case e il denaro dovuto sarà gestito in linea con la legge tedesca sull'insolvenza.

Vi ringraziamo in anticipo per la comprensione e la pazienza.

This is a deeply frustrating situation for us too, and an uncomfortable one.
We are operating under the instruction of the court appointed preliminary insolvency practitioner and in accordance with German insolvency law.
They have explained we cannot fulfil your order or refund it, as this would be showing preferential treatment to one of our creditors.
As it stands you have been added to the formal list of creditors with White and Case and the monies owed will be managed inline with German insolvency Law.

Terrible Experience - Avoid

I sent them my watch in October. It was one month old and in pristine condition. They said it would be sold in the matter of weeks since it is a high demand watch. Here are what happened afterwards:

1- They listed the watch with wrong name causing buyers not being able to find the watch. How can you mix up a speedmaster with anything else? Especially a diver watch? It's the most iconic watch of all time. I had to send an email to correct them which cost me to lose a few days.
2- They listed the dial color wrong also confusing the buyers. I, again sent an email to ask them to change that info. Another loss of a few days.
3- 3 months of time we decreased the price by £1600 from their suggested price and still nothing.
4- Even though my watch was in the UK and did not get affected by the heist in Germany, their activity got suspended in the UK around Black Friday , causing me to miss one of the biggest holiday sales season of the year.
5- I asked them to send me my watch back or allow me to trade it for another in early December and they said I should wait until the end of Xmas since it's the biggest sale season and then we can discuss it.
6- So I waited a couple more weeks, thinking that we'll discuss the return of the watch or a trade-in.
7- After Xmas, I asked again and got no reply for days.
8- I pushed for an update again and they replied with one sentence as if they were telling off a kid: 'Your contract expires in October 2023 and there is nothing we can do'. I did not wait weeks for you to tell me off like that.
9- I asked for trade options and got another 1 sentence reply: 'Unfortunately we cannot offer you that.'
10- That's the discussion I got.

Within the last 3 months, they couldn't sell my watch, listed it wrong twice, put it up with pictures that doesn't even look like the watch, ignored my emails, did not keep their promises and told me off.

I don't know what I can do legally but I want everyone to know that they should avoid them at all costs. I'm a big watch enthusiast and I'll share this experience in all forums & reddits that I'm in to make sure that no one else suffers from these guys' lies like me again.

AVOID.

1 - I am at a loss as to how this happened and apologise unreservedly. We changed it within 24hrs.
2 - This is difficult and subjective, I am inclined to agree with the team the dial is closer to grey than blue but we have listed it as blue at your request.
3 - Unfortunately this is just how watch prices have been behaving in recent months.
4 - We could not agree more that the disruption as a result of the heist in Berlin was regrettable and deeply infuriating, unfortunately this is totally outside of our control, and (in the UK) we were back trading within 10days of the incident.
5 - You signed a 365 day contract for us to sell you watch on your behalf. In the event we do not sell it in that time frame we will return it at no charge.
6 - Our having marketed your time piece for 3 months does not ‘entitle’ you to a trade in.
7 - The office was closed between Xmas and New Year but each email you sent will have received a response to that effect.
8 - Our agreement is until October, in the even you wish to change that there will be an applicable fee.
9 - We are not in a position to offer trade ins at present regrettably.

I apologise for the error at the start as it would appear our inventory team made an honest mistake there.
We are passionate about what we do, and if you are experienced in the watch and pre owned space you will understand that the market has been a tough space to operate in of late and would equally understand that your review will only serve to further hinder our progress in finding a buyer for your watch.
Please feel free to scan through our negative reviews. You will note that customers buying feature in a distinct minority as we take pride in the watches we sell and hold and will not be perturbed from doing so by sellers who want the higher payout but are not understanding of the timescales that might come with.

Vous pouvez garder votre confiance, durant ces dernières années j'ai effectué 8 transactions sans problèmes.
La semaine dernière j'ai acheté via le site une Rolex, suite à un élément de la montre qui ne me convenait pas, j'ai annulé de suite ma commande avant expédition depuis l'Allemagne.
Vu les soucis qu'ils rencontrent actuellement suite au vol de Berlin, je peux malgré tout vous assurer qu'ils suivent leurs dossiers, Anne Catherine en Allemagne au top ainsi que les autres interlocuteurs francophones de Paris, ils ont tout fait pour que mon remboursement soit effectif en quelques jours.
La société est sérieuse et le reste malgré le contexte.
Gardez votre confiance et soyez patient et courtois, j'ai résolu mon dernier dossier rapidement et facilement.
