Amazing care, 100% recommend

Was booked in for my pre ops on the 25th, had my gastric sleeve on the 26th.

The first thing to note is the care the nurses and doctors are very good at no point did I feel like I was not safe.

I was told that my blood pressure was acting strange and I needed to make sure if I went for a toilet or something I had someone with me, it was 2am and I really didn’t want to disturb anyone so I went for a toilet myself and collapsed due to the fluctuation in my blood pressure, I felt terrible about this as it happened from me ignoring there advice but I was never made to feel bad or as if it was my fault once that happened I got a few more tests to make sure everything was as it should be.

I plan to come back in a few years for the removal of loose skin that they do.

Added more money due ti old illness £1000. Then 🚫 BLICKED ME ON ALL WEB PAGES FOR SAYING THIS ?? THE DATE BIT ON HERE NOT WORK 21 NOV 21

They were not as friendly as they said.
Up the price by a £1000 pounds !!!!??? because I've had operations some years ago. .. before as I got extra illnesses they've taken extra care which did not happen. Charge extra 150 pound if you want to be knocked out 45 minutes so you don't feel the camera going down inside you have a look...
When it came to leaving I had a tube with Still in me they came in the room told me to hurry get dressed in change as transport would be there in 10 minutes I'm just sat there and then what??
I said how about you taking this too better my stomach maybe then ID be able to get dressed in about 10 minutes time when you set the tube out how about a stitch to close the wound which I've never got.
I told them I was registered disabled and I could not walk far let alone because I was SO fat.

Una sorry to read this review. You were charged correctly due to yours being a revisional surgery which we all know are more complex and more time in theatre. The endoscopy sedation is an extra that you could have opted for or not and you chose to add this to your surgery package. You were not blocked for saying this unfortunately it was due to breaking the group rules repeatedly. Wishing you all the best and take care.

The staff Nina, Victoria and all the rest were amazingly caring. Thank all of girls. I never worried about my treatment and I’m very happy with my visit and treatment from Mim to the taxi driver that brought me back to the hotel. You are all wonderful .

Excellent Experience

The whole experiance was really good. Transfers, hospitals, surgery, nurses, hotel everything was done for me and the whole process was seamless. Hotel is spotless, surgeons know exactly what they are talking about, nurses were great and patient co-ordinary was very helpful

Professional, kind and caring.

Every step of the process was perfect and smooth sailing. Everyone is professional and it can be overwhelming but the community are also brilliant. No bad things to say at all.

my experience from start to finish was…

my experience from start to finish was outstanding! I did a lot of research before booking and was lucky to have 2 friends who had also been here, from originally filling in my medical form to being home and recovering. I was contacted by a lady named Sue, Sue talked everything through with me thoroughly and also spoke to my mum and went into detail and didn't hesitate to answer any questions asked. This helped put me and my family at ease. As I was doing this journey alone I joined a whatsapp group where you meet other people who are also going for the procedure, I made 2 lifelong friends that I met at the airport and shared the whole experience with together, From arriving in Riga we were given a text from a man called Valentine saying our transport will be there to collect us, the transport was in arrivals with our names and very easy to find, he took us to the hotel to relax. There you are in a perfect location to go exploring, shopping, and have a spa at the hotel. The next day we were collected and taken to the clinic, the clinic was very clean and professional, all tests were carried out and shown to our rooms where the surgeon came to speak to us. The next day the procedure was carried out, all of the nurses were outstanding and made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Staff made sure I was healthy before being discharged back to the hotel, transport picked us up and got us to the Airport on time. My only flaw was it was a very long walk to our gate in the airport in Riga but that has nothing to do with the company so be sure to give yourself lots of breaks!.

Would highly recommend this company for anyone considering it.

Changed my life!

I recently underwent Gastric Sleeve (VSG) surgery organised by Weightloss Riga, and I am beyond pleased with the entire experience. From the very beginning, the team at Weightloss Riga was incredibly supportive, guiding me through each step of the pre and post-operative process with utmost care and professionalism.

The surgery was at Aiwa Clinic in Riga, and I was really impressed by the cleanliness and super efficient pre-op testing (you wouldn't get that in the UK unfortunately). The staff at the clinic were professional but also managed to put all of us there that week at ease during the pre and post op care.
I had a couple well needed laughs with the nurses and doctors. It defo took some stress away.

I'm 1 month post op now and experiencing loads of positive changes. The decision to have this surgery has really improved my quality of life, as I find myself gravitating towards healthier habits in ways that are not even related to my weight.

I can't wait to see what life will be like in a year...

5* from start to finish

Had a fantastic experience with weight loss Riga from start to finish. Felt 100% safe, met some lovely people having the op same date & the day after. All the staff at the hospital were caring and helpful and my surgeon was fantastic. Pre op was very in depth and I recovered well with minimal pain. I still have ongoing support from their nutritionist for 12 months post op which for me is very much needed. Can’t recommend enough

You are hiring a service to ge the job done, and they will do it, but don't expect much more than that.

tldr:
It's important to notice that this is a service aimed to provide you an economic and viable option to have a bariatric surgery, and for this, they fulfill their promise, but you shouldn't expect a very personal after surgery service (I will explain it later).

The process:
Filled a form on 27/09/2023, had a meeting with Mim (patient coordinator) on 03/10/2023, sent the booking confirmation on 05/10/2023 and had my surgery date scheduled to 01/11/2023. Paid 20% on booking and full balance two weeks prior the surgery date.

Received an email with couple of PDFs with informations about the surgery, recovery time and etc. They provide good information, but they don't replace direct interaction with surgeon (I will come back to this point later).

Arriving in Riga, there was a taxi driver waiting to take me to the hotel. They also shared the phone number of Valentin, the patient coordinator in Riga.

The day before the surgery:
Valentin picked me in the hotel on 31/10/2023 to take me to the AIWA Clinic.

That day we had sign a bunch of papers in the morning, then proceed to do a bunch of tests (blood tests, ECG, ultrasound, endoscopy and X-Ray).

This was the first time I had communication problems. Because each exam needs to be done in a different building, I was left alone multiple times. WeightLoss Riga mentions in their website that "our doctors, nurses and the other medical personnel speak English fluently".

This is not true at all.

Multiple times that day the staff person didn't speak English very well and, in some cases (like the lady in the X-Ray), didn't speak English at all, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable as she started losing her patience while I trying to understand her instructions.

Later that day I met the Dr. Igors Troickis to talk about the results of the exams and confirm the surgery. I was left with the impression he was in a rush and I didn't have enough time to ask questions and discuss things with him.

The day of the surgery:
In the morning they let you know the time of your surgery and then you wait. They came with a wheelchair to take me to the operating theatre. Arriving there, everyone seem to be a in rush too. Cleaning and putting things together for the surgery. The theatre seemed to be clean and with good modern equipment, but I have no expertise to evaluate it.

After the surgery I was taken to my room. I was having a lot of pain and asked the nurses to some painkillers, which they provided.

Recovering before discharge:
The room was ok and clean. During my time in the clinic I found that, again, it's not true that all the staff speaks English fluently. One of the nurses on the night shift didn't speak English at all too. We communicated through mime, which was alright, but just shows that one should not expect to be able to communicate in English in every interaction.

Discharge day:
On Friday 03/11/2023, two days after the surgery, Dr. Igors Troickis went to the room to discharge me. I received some papers in English with the results of the blood tests and some info about the other exams, received some papers about Ultrasound and Endoscopy in Latvian, and was discharged.

Valentin called a taxi to take me to the hotel.

Post-discharge:
I decided to stay two more nights in Riga before taking the flight back home. I wouldn't like to take the flight the day of the discharge.

Post-service and surgeon follow-up:
I had couple of appointments with some surgeons on my home country (Spain) and all of them mentioned they do follow-ups since every body is different, everyone heals differently and it's important to have this surgeon and patient contact.

It doesn't work like this on Weight Loss Riga, and I think it's really important to mention it. Not even remote follow-ups.

Luckily I have a very good GP/Family Doctor and a very good nutritionist that are filling this "hole", but recently my GP asked me to talk to my surgen about sports and activities. I've reached out to Weight Loss Riga asking about a possibility to talk to the doctor about some ideas I have, but I immediately received the answer that "all information are in the PDFs provided".

Therefore, one should not expect a personalised attention. I totally recommend finding a good doctor and a good nutritionist to fill this hole and do the follow up.

Summary:
You are hiring a service to get the bariatric surgery done, and they will do it and fulfil it. But do not expect a high quality post-surgery and/or follow-up with the surgeon.

Also, keep in mind that it's not true that all the personnel speaks English fluently. You might see yourself in situations where you are unable to communicate.

Other than these two points above, Weight Loss Riga fulfilled the contract. I had the surgery (much cheaper than in Spain), I'm losing weight and I'm grateful everything went well.

You're in safe hands

Everything was taken care of from the first moment including planning, arranging transport and accommodation and arriving at the clinic. Pre Surgery, operation and aftercare was very efficient and caring. Couldn't recommend highly enough!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at Riga. I had a really lovely experience.

The whole process start to finish was so easy, from booking through to the operation, it all run like clockwork and although I was nervous I felt reassured.

Big thank you to Valentin, he really was lovely and so helpful.

Not one thing I can find that is negative.

Excellent correspondence before travelling, impeccable hospital and staff and the after care is fantastic!!

My only regret....I didn't do this sooner!!

Top Class

WLS is a professional and exceptionally well run organisation.
Everything ran like clockwork and you felt that you were in very safe hands. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to help you with your journey.

Overall a good, pleasant experience

The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because of the conflicting information. The conflicting information is from the patient coordinators in the UK, with the patient coordinator in Riga, the nurses etc. for example, I got difference versions from all of them about my partner visiting, and also whether we could and couldn’t leave the clinic and at what times.
The paperwork isn’t in the best English, the contract details were wrong for most of the 8 people I arrived at WLR with. Even when sending follow up emails, they haven’t even got my name right. They’ve spelt it ‘Laure’ instead of ‘Laura’. The nurses during my stay didn’t speak good English which led to some communication barriers. I fully appreciate I am in a different country and my Latvian is limited to ‘Paldies’ but with the huge amount of English speaking people they attract, they’d have a couple of fairly fluent English nurses especially when you’re discussing life changing surgery and medical issues. I’ve used more online NHS information to help me post-op, I haven’t really touched any of the WLR material since leaving. The online resources and Facebook groups are so much more helpful, and a lot clearer.

My overall experience was very pleasant. Valentin, Dr Troickis (the surgeon) and the anaesthetist were fantastic and all spoke good English.

I don’t for one second regret going to WLR for my surgery. I am so grateful and wouldn’t hesitate going back, or recommending to others.

The staff were efficient and did their jobs well. Communication was good, most speak good English , and they kept me informed of what was happening. The clinic was spotless and functional. The staff were a bit “cold” but that’s how Eastern Europeans are naturally. They weren’t offensive or rude.
Communication with co- ordinators before the trip was good and answered my questions.
Taxis were on time to and from airport and from hotel to clinic

Trigger warning

Trigger warning: pros and cons of my experience with WLR.
*On landing our taxi was there ready for the patients. Great start.
*Taken to the hotel late (due to flight times) for a matter of hours. Met in the lobby for 5am to be greeted and instructed by Valentin what was happening next.
*The hotel itself was very clean however bad communication from staff who refused to accommodate any of my requests. Would not stay there again. Did not cater for disabled or offer help with bags. The noise from outside works, parties going on and the Tram outside wasn’t ideal.
*Taxi took our group to the hospital arriving obviously in the dark and having to use the back entry where it’s very dark. I use a crutch or a wheelchair and very unsteady on my feet so had to use extra caution navigating stairs. It was so dark it was only afterwards I was told there was a ramp.
*Taken to a conference room to sign contracts which went fairly quickly. Valentin is very professional at what he does and his English is reasonably good.
*Taken to the ward and shown our rooms and sharing buddy (if applicable).
*The tests began with bloods and port fitted to access blood or give meds. The nurse who does this is vile. No smiles, no eye contact, no empathy, no English. Made me feel very uncomfortable and just did not like dealing with her at all. The name that comes to mind is Miss Trunchbull regarding her manner. Needs huge improvement or a career change.
*Regarding the tests they are thorough and ran very smoothly. Advise everyone to have anaesthetic for the endoscope it’s over in minutes before you know it. The team there are very good.
*The sonographer is thorough and he has ok English.
*The X-ray dept was the worst. The manner of the technician was curt, rude and rough handling nothing gentle about this experience. Needs improvement. Being pushed hard against the X-ray machine semi naked was a bit much for me being a chronic pain patient so this set off even more pain. I felt I had been dignity raped here.
*I was firstly approved for the MGB but found out while I was there I was never approved for this only the FGB which I never really wanted. Being there I felt I couldn’t really back down but I did have the choice to. I found this out the night before surgery so I really didn’t have much time to process the change.
*The hospital room does not have a curtain so basically if you���re sharing you have to be ok with no privacy.
*The cleaners did the bare basic and were asked to actually clean part of the floor that had a spillage for a day or two as hardly seen them about.
*Hospital towels do not cater for bariatric patients so be warned.
*If you’re disabled there are no aids that I was made aware of to help for example an easy access shower, wet room or shower stool.
*In Theatre for surgery you are just climbing onto the bed and getting in position then bam everything is over. The team here were fine and the anaesthetist is excellent.
*The most important person Mr T is an expert in his field and I trusted him completely. This was huge for me as the NHS have made blunder after blunder with me over the years so that my trust in them is at this time zero.
*Returning from surgery I woke up sitting on my bed being shouted at by my name from the wonderful Miss Trunchbull. The young male staff member was stood at the bottom of my bed onlooking as she ripped off my surgical gown leaving me naked then half ripped off my surgical knickers. Shoving my nighty over my head. I then slept for hours. When I woke I actually felt raped again. No dignity or respect given. I was disgusted.
*A few times no nurse was able to be found during the night. There was a small desk lamp on but no one around when needed. I couldn’t buzz as I’d of woken everyone up, with the buzzer being loud.
*On discharge there are no pleasantries from the nurses at all. No bye no eye contact nothing. It’s as they don’t want us there! Apart from the patients you meet the experience of this is a very cold unempathetic one. That’s fine if you want nothing more than the surgery done and home. Bit like a production line effect. However Valentin did come and say bye.
My conclusion is perplexing as Mr T has performed surgery on me that was otherwise difficult as I knew I’d be a complicated patient. That is the most important thing. If you’re looking to be treat with any form of dignity or respect from the staff think hard before you book! If you’re looking for a great surgeon Mr T is the man for the job!
*On the way home received an email from WLR asking me if I’m still interested in surgery. Very disappointed in this as it shows it’s not a personalised experience. Disappointed in this really. Many interesting honest points made here in my analogy which I hope will be allowed to be posted and internally acted upon to improve the standard of the Company overall.

I can't say enough good things about…

I can't say enough good things about Weight Loss Riga. The surgeon is amazing, all the nursing staff are extremely proficient, the support staff are very helpful and will guide you through everything from start to finish. If weight loss surgery is something you're considering then consider going to Riga. It's a 1st class service and they make sure you've nothing to worry about.

WLS - Bypass - Weight Loss Riga, Latvia

An absolute seemless effort from start to finish.

I 1st contacted Mim (co-ordinator) and she discussed everything with me, to the finest detail, very thorough and lovely to talk to,very quick with email/SMS responses. I was picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel and the next morning was met by Valentin and other people that were due for surgery. We were taken to the hospital and we went through all our paperwork with Valentin. He explained everything again and was very knowledgeable. All tests were then completed by the wonderful nursing staff, attention to detail was 2nd to none. Surgery happened later that morning and I woke up and again was looked after by the nursing staff. After 3 hours I was encouraged to walk to get the gas moving from my body and to sip water. Built my walking up over the next couple of days. On the day of discharge the surgeon came to see me with my discharge notes and Valentin arranged for a taxi to take me back to the hotel.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this wonderful hospital/surgeon/staff. I was a little apprehensive at 1st but I needn't have worried, I was in very safe hands.
Hospital was excellent, very clean and modern. All the staff speak English and they look happy in their jobs.
