Avoid like the plague

I engaged in an email conversation with this company in advance of hiring a device for home during a gap between broadband providers. Their website makes it clear that the service they provide will be sufficient for streaming. I was surprised that they would be confident enough to say this as these are 4G mobile routers and in some areas the service would not be sufficient. I was concerned that we would be provided with a network which did not offer good service in our slightly patchy area and so I suggested they provide something on the O2 network which I know works inside our house. They suggested I put the information in the box at the point of order which I did. When I received the router it did not have an O2 network connection but a different network which did not work well in our house. It was providing speeds on average of about 2-3 mbps which is below that required for basic streaming. It was barely allowing a web page to open. I wrote to them to inform them of this fact. They asked to provide screenshots of the speed which I did and then said that they had not managed to check my post code against the available network providers. This was because it was a seven character (London) post code and the website they were using couldn’t cope with it. They had therefore taken a punt on the network which would work at my location and ignored the extra information I gave them both in email correspondence and at the point of order. They accepted that there was an issue by offering to send out a replacement router with an appropriate connection on the next working day. That would result in me acquiring a “working” router four days into my seven day hire period. I told them that was unnecessary because my gap in broadband coverage would have most likely been fixed by then and so I would just return for a full refund. They wrote back and said they were only prepared to refund days 4-7 and they would expect me to still pay for days 1-3 for a router which they had themselves accepted was not fit for purpose. In response I told them I was not prepared to argue over 30 pounds - even though they are clearly in the wrong - but that I would take the opportunity of leaving a review where I could so that people are not led to wasting money in the same way I have been. In short, the router was basic, the network provider was not appropriate for the area, they ignored the information I gave them twice and they failed to make the appropriate checks on my post code and guessed instead. After that, they declined to give me a full refund for a service which they have never provided. Avoid like the plague.

As a standard we check the post code of the shipping address for an order and assign the best available network to the order before dispatching the order. I can see from the customer service support inbox that, as at the time we received your order, O2 network had network repairs in your location, which was why a different network was assigned to your device.

Unfortunately if a local telecom mast is experiencing a technical fault, the speed of everyone in that local area using that network would be affected."

In situations where there is a local/regional telecom mast issue affecting the local area where a device is being used, our standard procedure involves investigating the speed issue first to identify the cause and see if it can be resolved remotely before checking if an alternative network is available and is not experiencing technical issues. If an alternative network is available, we quickly arrange for a replacement device to be delivered to your address.

I can see you had declined the offer for a replacement device running on a different network being sent to you and informed us you will be posting back the device.

Great service

Great service, unit arrived next day which was a Sunday, plugged in and worked without issues. Very useful as some contractors had messed up my fibre connection.

AVOID

AVOID. The WiFi arrived late despite paying special delivery for postage. I contacted them about this and they just ignored me. The WiFi could barely sustain two smart phones. TWO smart phones, that’s it. It was barely functional. Waste of £50

Thank you for providing us with your feedback, and first of all, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience experienced.

We do not have different types of delivery prices on our website and we don't have special delivery as a service on our website, we only have a flat fee for delivery and packaging and a Free courtesy return postage label for posting the device back at the end of the hire. Late/last minute orders are dispatched through a Next day delivery service to ensure it gets delivered on the hire start date.

This has been looked into, I can see that you added a note to your order requesting for the device to be delivered to your address on the 6th of November because you would be moving into the apartment on that day.

You chose the 6th of November as your hire start date and I can see the customer service team emailed you to inform you of Royal mail delivery times and recommended getting the device delivered to your local post office to ensure you are able to pickup the package at your convenience, and not have to worry about the possibility of the postman/post woman missing you, given you had said you would be moving on the 6th and also wanted the device delivered on that day also.

I can also see from the email communication that you chose the option of redirecting the package to your local post office for collection.

I have checked the Royal mail dispatch tracking details page and it shows the package was delivered to your chosen post office and available for collection on the 6th of November which was the hire start date you chose in your order.

Regarding the speed issue experienced, I have checked the support inbox and can see we didn't receive any email from you during your hire about experiencing challenges with the speed.
In situations where there is a local/regional telecom mast issue affecting the local area where a device is being used, our standard procedure involves investigating the speed issue first to identify the cause and see if it can be resolved remotely before checking if an alternative network is available and is not experiencing technical issues. Robbed of £30

Hired a wifi box due to already frustrating internet issues I was having, so was hoping this would be a temporary solution.

Instead the box provided no signal due to working off mobile sim signal even after following the guidance. I didn't want to incur any further fees so I returned it, after asking for a refund the stated because I returned the box they could be of no further assistance. Paid £30 for nothing and wasted my time. Would not recommend if you need in an emergency.

This has been looked into, and I can see you contacted the customer service the day before your end of hire date regarding the speed you were getting from your location. I can also see the customer service team had sent a speed test guide so that they could investigate the issue, but you had replied saying the device had been posted back.
In situations where a speed issue is being experienced, a speed test is normally performed followed by identifying if there's a local/regional telecom mast issue affecting the local area where the device is being used, and cross-checking coverage from other available data providers. If an alternative network is available and isn't experiencing technical issues, we quickly arrange for a replacement device.

Unfortunately, we were informed at the end of the hire period, and were unable to investigate the issue given it ha been posted back.

Excellent Customer Service

I ordered this WiFi for 3-6 October. I specifically requested it arrive the day before, as I require it for the morning of the 3rd of October. Living in the Highlands, the Tracking information said it would arrive a day late, even though it was sent 48 hour delivery. I contacted customer service, with little hope (as it was only an email). They responded immediately and sent another by 24-hour delivery. I've just received it and am so relieved... they emailed, as soon as it was delivered to check that I had received it.

Excellent customer service!

Perfect if you need a short term, reliable connection

I rented a device for a week and the whole experience was seamless from start to finish. The ordering process was simple, delivery was in 24 hours and I was set up in 5 minutes. The internet was fast and reliable. When I was done it was super easy to return.

Can't fault anything

Can't fault anything, good communication before ordering, arrived a day early. Was using for a week on a caravan holiday in wales, they checked the signal before ordering to make sure it was suitable. Just plugged it into the caravan, perfect internet for a week on all devices including Apple TV . Took it to the post office the day we got home (Saturday) , deposit was refunded by Monday. Will be using again next year.

Wouldn't hire another one

Wouldn't hire another one. This portable WiFi box was just to enable us to use our firestick as we stayed at a holiday park which had no WiFi. I contacted the company before hand and I couldn't fault the customer service they were very prompt with responses. However I was advised with the postcode I gave I would have Internet connection which I did but it was very hit & miss. We had to reset this many times which was very frustrating as had to reconnect with password etc. I personally wouldn't recommend this as we didnt have a great experience.

Very disappointing service

I would give it zero stars.
I hired a wifi device as I don't have Internet connection at the moment and have very poor phone signal.
I did tell them that.
The device costed £60 for 10 days and was absolutely useless.
I received no help and was told no refund could be issued.

This has been investigated, and I can see this is an ongoing hire. I can also see from the customer support thread that you contacted the customer service team to inform them about accessing low speeds at the location where the device is being used.

I can see from the communication that the data network assigned to you is the best available network for your current location because all other data providers operating at that location are experiencing telecom mast failures, and the customer service team had explained they would have sent a replacement device on a different network, but given all other network services are experiencing issues at that location, that was the current best network.

I can also see the customer service team member asked if you wish to keep using the device and you confirmed to the team member that you will keep using the device until your hire ends.

I can see from the customer service inbox that you have extended your hire for a longer period.

We apologise for any inconvenience experienced.

Surprisingly beneficial!

I didn’t know what to expect as I hadn’t heard of even hiring WiFi before. Seeing mixed reviews online made me cautious, but it actually worked out great. We hired one for an event so that Stallholders could connect and make payments for customers. Testing the signal by placing it in different areas of the venue beforehand worked great - allowed us to find the best spot to place it. Would use again.

Did not work for me

Did not work for me, returned for a refund but still got charged over £10 for admin and postage charges. Thought that was very unprofessional given that their service did not work for me at all.
*Update 11.09 - Refund received. Many Thanks. Suggestion to others, make sure there is adequate coverage where you intend to use the device.

This has been looked into, i can see you contacted the customer service team regarding not being able to access the internet in your location.

I can also see from the email thread that a customer service team member investigated the network coverage in the location where the device was being used and it seems the network issue in the location had not been flagged by the data carriers system. Unfortunately other networks had poor coverage in the location hence an alternative network on a replacement device could not be dispatched to your address.


The customer service team member informed you to post back the device for a refund of your hire but I can see from the email communication that the wrong amount was refunded to you in error and a customer service team member rectified the error and issued you the right amount

A portable internet device relies on there being a telecom mast within the area it is being used (similar to what all cell phones rely on), so when it is being used in remote locations, in areas without a telecom mast installation nearby or in areas with telecom issues affecting the mast (on the data carrier assigned to you) serving the location/local area, this can negatively impact your internet speed while you are in that local area/location.

We apologise for any inconvenience experienced.

⚠️ Not Worth the Money – Unreliable Service!!!!!!!

I rented this portable Wi-Fi while working remotely in the UK, and it was a very poor experience. The connection was extremely unreliable—every single Teams call I had dropped, even though I was the only person using the device. For a service that costs over £50, this is unacceptable.

The device also arrived with a broken charger, meaning it wouldn’t power on. When I contacted customer service, they refused to provide a replacement charger and told me to buy one myself.

Overall, the service was unreliable, product was expensive, customer support was unhelpful, and the equipment provided DID not even work for one device connected. No idea how they have positive reviews!!!!I would not recommend this company to anyone who needs a stable internet connection.

Excellent Company & Service

I could not recommend Wifi Hire more! What a great service they provide. My contract with Virgin ended but I needed one more month of WiFi before moving to Australia. Virgin offered me a great deal - an 18 month contract with a penalty payment of almost GBP 600.00 if I cancelled early !! Looking around, it is almost impossible to find a company who does anything less than a 12 month contract with huge penalties if you cancel early. Then I stumbled across WiFi Hire. Such a great company to work with. I made a mistake and ordered the wrong device and they immediately reached out to check what I wanted and rectify my error. The device was delivered on the exact date I chose and I simply had to plug it in and turn it on. I had the device in my living room and I was happily streaming videos in my bedroom upstairs with no buffering or lag issues at all. I returned the device to my local Post Office with the prepaid label and my deposit was returned to me as soon as they received the device back. I am very impressed and happy that there is a company that helps with situations such as mine. I would recommend them to anyone looking for this kind of service. Thank you WiFi Hire!

VERY INCOMPETENT

VERY INCOMPETENT! Don’t use this company services.

The delivery was late, it was delivered the day we wanted to travel with it . I thought, the Gadget would be delivered at least 1-3 days before the day we wanted to start using it considering that I had ordered the device a week ahead of our travel date.
It was for the kids to access wifi services while mobile and the holiday places we were travelling to didn’t have WiFi services .
The gadget was dispatched to arrive on Wednesday the day we were leaving , which didn’t make sense, as our service start date was that Wednesday and the day of our departure.We left without the WIFI gadget , which was a huge inconvenience to my family, affected our plans .
The company has no contact numbers or functional support services , so there seems to be no way to contact them directly other than via emails which they won’t respond back to on time. I am not sure if they do respond.

EDITED : After the reply to my review by the Company.

I have been in contact with one of your Assistant probably an AI assistant , asking me to ask my landlord or friend to send the gadget back to them, which didn’t make any sense. Worse, trying to justify the late delivery and laying blame on me for not letting them know that they were supposed to deliver a day before for me to get the service on the day it should start. Which was weird because when I order a service it is not my duty to remind the service provider to deliver the service right on time.
The response to my review is trying to play clever, yet this reply comes after we had so much back and forth emails before.

This has been looked into. I've searched our customer service inbox, and can see this is an ongoing hire.

As a standard, devices are delivered on the start of hire date. This is highlighted :
• on the hire details pages
• on our Frequently asked Question page
• on our Delivery and return information page
• in the Hire confirmation email (email received after placing an order)"

Normally, If a customer would like a device to arrive a day before their start of hire date, they normally contact us to find out if this is possible, because as a courtesy we are some times able to get a device delivered a day before the start date (when possible).

I can see you have a communication thread ongoing with the customer service team, and they have already requested for your current accommodation address for a replacement device to be sent to you. Given Trustpilot wouldn't be an ideal place to provide customer service for an ongoing hire, i would recommend you send a reply to the customer service team , so that they can be in the best position to support you .

Speedy delivery and easy setup…

Speedy delivery and easy setup. Worked okay as a temporary WiFi solution while we waited for our broadband installation. Setup was simple and straightforward.
Allowed several devices to connect even Netflix on the TV.

However, the speed wasn’t great, and it turned out to be very expensive for just eight days of use.

DO NOT use this company

DO NOT use this company. FRAUDULENT.
The device didn't work at all. Useless for work, Google meets, Zoom, any app for making calls just not load at all. Download and upload velocity < 1 Mbps. Tried everything. I asked for a refund and was refused. Paid more than 50 pounds for 7 days, and still waiting for the deposit back. Lack of empathy and support has ignored my requests for a refund since. Appalling service!

This has been looked into, I can see that you contacted us and a customer service team member replied to that email on the same day it was sent, requesting for the post code of the location where the device was being used and for a speed test to be done on the device to enable us investigate the coverage situation in your location.

The speed test result you provided via the online application shared with you by the customer service team member showed you were receiving network speeds of up to 48.33Mbps-25.30Mbps.

I can see that after the customer service team member checked the network status of your location (based on the post code you provided of where you were using the device), the team member had informed you that we couldn't send a replacement device on another network because the other major data providers we use were all working on fixing a technical issue at that location, at the time, hence the data network assigned to you was the best performing network for that location at the time."

I can also see from the email communication that a customer service team member reached out to you 2 days later informing you that one of our other data providers had finished the network repairs in your location and offered to send you a replacement device on another network but you declined the offer and requested to keep using the device for the duration of your hire period.

I have checked the Royal mail return tracking details page and it shows the device was returned towards the end of your hire, it was delivered to us on the 5th of August and your refundable deposit was issued into your account on that same day. You would have received a deposit notification email from the payment processing system with details of the refund timeline.

A week without wi-fi. No thank you!

This was the second time I have used this company, we holiday at a fishing complex in South Wales which doesn’t have wi-fi, both times the router has been waiting for us when we got there and we returned it the day we left, our deposit was back into my bank within a week. If I asked any questions or queries by e mail, they were answered within a short space of time. We are going back on holiday next year and will be using this company again. Staff are always happy to help.
