Well where to start? 10 months ago I bought a car from Hippo, for peace of mind I bought a warranty.
I was assured by the salesman that the warranty covered everything. My car broke down just under 7 weeks ago, no problem I thought I have a warranty. So the AA towed it to the garage I have used for years. My mechanic diagnosed a fault with the ECU and said it would need replacing he sent a report to the warranty people. A1 approved warranty company wanted it sent to a specialist ECU company for diagnosis and to see if it could be repaired. At this point being somewhat fed up of delays and being messed about I got my mechanic to drop it to the local Vauxhall main dealer, A1 were not happy..too expensive apparently. In a telephone call one of the A1 staff told me "ECUs almost never fail" the sheer number of ECU specialists would put the lie to this assertion. My mechanic then took the car to a local ECU specialist for diagnosis and a report at A1s insistence to see if the ECU could be repaired, it couldn't, water ingress, ECU totally fried. Exactly as my mechanic diagnosed 6 whole weeks previously. Report sent off, claim denied in 30 minutes after 6 weeks of messing me about. Apparently they don't cover water ingress, I drive a Vauxhall Grandland not a Range Rover so it's not like I've been off roading or driving through swamps. What am I supposed to do? Not drive in the rain? The warranty is a complete waste of money and I get the impression it's any excuse to wriggle out of paying. I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.If you read other reviews there's a common thread of iffy cars from Hippo and A1 finding a way to not fix them.

A1 Approved have made what could have been a really stressful situation for me, calm with a very good outcome. Karl Westgate who was my claim handler, was professional throughout. He rang when promised and maintained communication throughout my claim. I will recommend this company to anyone

Terrible, avoid at all costs.
They will mess about whichever garage you take it to too the point the garage has had enough of them, try and stall the work to frustrate the garage then void your claim because the garage carries the work out without authorisation even tho I was informed the issue was covered in my warranty.
Edit: in reply to their response, they spoke to the garage and they ignored my emails checking everything was okay. Look at all the other reviews people, seems like everyone is too blame apart from A1! Avoid at all costs

A1 Approved has a glossy brochure, but what it doesn't tell you is that they are simply an administrator. The car dealer keeps the money you pay for the warranty (apparently). So if the dealership goes bankrupt A1 will tell you that your warranty is worthless and there is nothing they can do to help.

Worst service ever. First they say they will cover everything and then they dont cover anything. Fraudsters literally.

I regret to say that my experience with A1 Approved Car Warranty has been quite disappointing. Its really a struggle to get any claims approved by them. I had to call and email them multiple times, to get things sorted.
When dealing with them make sure you make a note of all the conversations you have, they tend to deviate you from the expenses and not give clarity.
I wouldn't recommend them.

Bought a ford focus from Hippo motors and warranty taken out paying £50 a month. Sold to me as by the saleswoman as piece of mind should the Car suddenly break down. Car run ok for 3 months then suddenly cut out after struggling to get up a hill due to ice in the road. Car wouldn't start / RAC called out who said it was fuel injector issue on diagnostics even though ABS light came on and hill start failure. Had it towed to local garage who said it wasnt injectors but believed it was the fuel pump but other fault codes were coming up so recommended it to five star autos Huddersfield. Took it there and they said that the starter motor had burned out and would need replacing. Told them to do it as its under warranty. A1 complained saying the garage had used proper ford parts and it was too expensive. Then I was told the ECU needed to be replaced. A1 Warranty wanted it sent off to be repaired which they couldn't and wouldn't pay for the ECu..in desperation I paid the 1085 cost of the ECU to get my car back. Then phoned by 5 star auto it was a fuel metre issue and under bonnet fuse box problem now and that was going to cost another 850 quid. The fact the RAC said it was a fuel issue first and after all the work doing was still a fuel issue caused me no amount of stress down to losing work due to having no car. Hippo motors are a joke , and A1 warranty is a con. I paid for the ECU yet the warranty said they paid half..yet i was paying 50 a month so they wasn't even paying half Sold as piece of mind should problems occur yet will not contribute to any cost when the car needs repairing. This whole episode has affected my mental health .
Ive been left 1085 out of pocket and still no car. Would not by a car from hippo motors ever again and A1 Warranty are a con

Took out the warranty. Was told not to go to Vauxhall so i hot a local garage. Was also told to get a diagnostic check done which found the multiple errors on the engine management light. Paid diagnostics myself.
Issue were because of ABS sensor and in total the parts and labour came to £155.52.
A1Approved only gave me back £93 because they say that's all they authorised??
How the hell can they determine what the garage is going to charge. Everything that was done was fully covered and allowable under the warranty.
Also with the diagnosis, I was told to get it done which is where the faults are found which saves labour costs in terms of finding what is wrong.
I should fey back £48 for diagnostics and £130.52 (£155.52 less £25.00 excess).
But they only give me £93.
As usual warranty companies ripping off the customer. So for something i pay for monthly, I still had to pay over £80 out of my own pocket so that is out if order.
ALL ISSUES WITH THE CAR ARE ALLOWABLE UNDER THE WARRANTY. IT COST £48 + £155.62.
DO NOT TRUST A1approved and get your warranty with someone else.
Cowboys and rip off merchants
In response to the reply, it's still a total rip off and not the way you sell the warranty that makes it sound so easy when things go wrong.
I paid £48 for diagnostics which A1 told me to get done and £155 to the garage which is £203 in total and only get £92.60 back.
As per usual, all warranty companies sell to you with saying how great they are and then rip you off when it comes to them paying you out.
With Leaseplans warranty they pay for everything without any question. They even arrange the garage and pick up and return of car. Leaseplan warranty is the premier league whereas A1 is conference league.
But hey, keep your money, you obviously need it more than me!!!!!

Had a claim, the process was very simple.
My garage called them with a quote. I had to pay an extra £5 labour cost due to their cap but they covered 90% of the bill.
Thank you

I’m am most grateful to A1 approved for the way they accepted a claim even though the garage in error didn’t seek pre approval before making the repair. Everything was done in good faith, and even though they could have refused the claim ( which initially the customer services did and hence 4 stars) when I rang them, and the emailed the full explanation, they impressively accepted a genuine mistake had occurred and honoured the claim. Thank you a1approved!

I strongly advise others to avoid A1 Approved based on my recent experience.
I purchased a used vehicle from a reputable dealer, and the warranty provided was with A1 Approved — a decision I regret. The air conditioning on the car has not worked since the day of purchase. When I attempted to make a claim for the repair of the air conditioning condenser, it was rejected on the basis that a pipe (allegedly causing the issue) wasn’t covered.
However, at the time I received the warranty, pipes and hoses were not excluded. It appears that the company amended their terms after the agreement was in place — something they explicitly state in their own small print cannot happen: “The terms of this Agreement cannot be changed under any circumstances.”
They’re now hiding behind vague wording like “this is not an exhaustive list” and are dismissing claims with no mechanical inspection, just blanket statements. When challenged, they provided no regulator to escalate the complaint to, and I was told that because it’s a “guarantee,” there’s no oversight.
This experience has shown me that A1 Approved appears far more interested in avoiding liability than delivering customer protection. I wouldn’t trust them to pay out on anything meaningful.
Avoid at all costs — and check with your dealer or finance company before accepting a warranty from this provider

I took out this warranty cover when I first got my car it's not worth the paper it is written on, I was sold a car that was heavily under powered and not boosting, after having the car checked over with a diagnostic machine it had swirl flap faults and glow plugs, no garage was willing to get involved due to this warranty company so I took it to bmw for a full diagnostic to be done, I informed the company and they told me to remove my car from the main agent, I refused, they took it upon themselves to take my car from bmw to an independent garage, they didnt even hand the keys into the right place, the guy at the independent garage didn't even know my car was there as it was parked on the main street and keys handed into neighbouring unit for almost a week before the said garage knew it was there. Won't supply a courtesy car, kept telling me it will not be genuine bmw parts as it's took expensive, I didn't buy a premium car for it to be repaired by cheap parts. Ridiculous company has caused so much stress and inconvenience, this warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.
Replying to your message I did not give you consent to remove my car also it's got nothing to do with the finance company this is down to the car dealer for selling a faulty car, you as the warranty company are liable for repairs on the car, it has now been off the road for 2 months.. It's also not my fault the car needed repaired or how much it cost, this is down to the car dealer, I should still have been supplied with a courtesy car for the inconvenience and stress you have caused, plus the garage you took it too, the mechanic is a genuine nice person he's got no reason to lie about not knowing the car was there.. shocking!!

Absolute scam. Purchased a car at car time bury. My warranty I signed for included break down cover with platinum cover. I needed break down cover today and they told me I'm not on the system and i will have to pay for them to come out even though I signed the contract at the dealership and paying for the warranty monthly. Avoid these scamming artists with misleading/fraudulent contracts!! Cancel it immediately!!!

Bought a car through Hippo 11/24. 6 months later and 6000 miles later the gearbox is failing. Cost to repair £1400. Apparently this is categorised as general wear and tear. I thought gearboxes were supposed to last 120000 miles. The £50 per month for 10 months to cover me for something major going wrong was pointless. My advice is prepare for the worst if you can, put £50 per month in a savings account. Then deal with it yourself should something go wrong, because that is what you will end up doing anyway.
