Citibank is racist
Bait and Switch on my flex loan!
On my Citi app I saw a flex loan for 3.99% , so I put in to get it, but later I find out that it is now 5.99%, and I don’t have any evidence to prove the lower rate, because it was done on their app on my phone! I didn’t think to take a picture of the rate when I got the loan! So I got screwed by them!
To whom it may concern
To whom it may concern,
I have two credit cards from Citi. one is for a double cash reward, and the other is Citi Dividend Card for 28 years. I always pay off the balance at the end of each month. In April of 2022, when I logged in to Citi App to pay the balance of my Double Cash Reward card, I realized my Dividend Card was closed by the company about two weeks ago. I immediately contacted customer services and spoke to " Andy," a lovely gentleman. He said the card was closed due to inactivity for some time. It was shocking that after 28 years, I had the card, and I was forced to close by Citi WITHOUT any prior notice or didn't have the decency to send a letter or at least notify me by email at all.
There is a 30 days widow I can reclaim my account, so I asked Andy to reopen, but he said I have to reapply, and I will have my old acct. # back. Andy said there should NOT be any problem for me to get my account back after being with them for over 28 years and having a good standing. After about 30 mins on the phone with Andy, I did NOT have my account back he said I have to wait for 10-14 days for Citi to send a letter. I waited for over three weeks I didn't receive anything from Citi besides its junk mails. I contacted again and requested for the manager this time. so I spoke to Priscilla, but she couldn't help either. She said it passed 30 days, and there was nothing she can do about it even though when I told her when I first found out within 2 weeks, I immediately called Citi to reclaim my account; then she said I didn't qualify to have the account back.
This was all totally absurd to me; how's in the world I didn't qualify when I've been with the company for over 28 years, and both my accounts are in good standing with ZERO balance, and I often pay off the entire balance at the end of each month.
WHEN I ASKED THE MANAGER "Priscilla" TO ESCALATE THIS MATTER TO UPPER DIVISION SHE DENIED AND SAID THEY CAN NOT HELP ME EITHER.
Please contact by email if you have any questions.
stay away, Stay Away, STAY AWAY!!!!!
Unethical, ignorant and ultimately stupid company! I had a good credit line with these folks until I did one thing; took a cash advance back in December 2021. The next day they dropped my limit by 5500 dollars!!!!! I have NOTHING delinquent on my credit report. My score did go down, but not due to missing any payments. I always keep my accounts in good standing but Citi is the most unethical bank I have yet to deal with.
They did it again in May, and I said "Hell with this!" I warned them 3 times that if they did not restore my credit line I was going to close the account. Well, I did call to close that credit line account. Given that I am an entrepreneur and my next business is in the works, they lost out on a good lifetime customer. Their fault for basically being like the NSDAP or maybe the CCCP (look it up).
When you make a financial agreement, you don't to "craw" on it. That is actually breaking contract law. One of the cornerstones of contract law is called "Consideration." Which means, I agree to pay for something, while something is given to me in return. I did exactly what I promised and Citi DID NOT do what they promised. That is technically illegal. I can quote the Fair Credit Reporting Act as well, but will not.
Further, other people have complained about Citi doing these practices and yet, is this place ever punished? Remind me again how much money "we the people" gave to this POS entity? I will tell you: 476.2 BILLION EFFING DOLLARS! They are swimming in wealth and have the gall to screw with people that are on time with their Citi card and their other credit accounts, as I am. Especially given that we are still recovering from the pandemic. SHAME ON THEM! I am going to open a BBB complaint against them as well.
This is a rotten institution that was bailed out more than any other bank after the 2008 "recession." WE THE PEOPLE should not have such a blatant and fraudulent entity to deal with, and they need to be fined heavy for their unethical, bordering on immoral, practices. Don't deal with them..................ever!
UPDATE: Then I see article after article of this entity dealing with Russia. So you have MANY reasons not to do business with this corrupt place.
If I could give negative stars I would
This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with in all my 59 years. They froze my account months ago without telling me and when I tried to use my account, I couldn't (pretty large amount in my combined accounts). When I called, it was very difficult to get a hold of a representative, and when I finally did, they were all in the Philippines. They were almost impossible to understand, didn't understand me, had terrible phone connections with a 5-second delay. It took me literally days and many hours on the phone to finally unlock my account. I have since initiated a wire transfer to remove my money from this incompetent bank. The money did not arrive in my other bank. I called them again and spent an hour (LITERALLY) getting them to verify my identity just to find out where my money is. Finally the idiot Philippino told me they were unable to complete the wire transfer but he wouldn't tell me why. After this I got an email saying the wire transfer was cancelled "because they couldn't get ahold of me to verify the transfer" I was LITERALLY on the phone with them while I initiated the transfer online (the way they require a wire transfer), and they DID NOT try to contact me, except that I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH THEM WHEN THEY SENT ME THE EMAIL SAYING THEY COULDN'T CONTACT ME! I think they are a fraudulent institution and should not be allowed to operate in the US. Their 'out-sourced' operators can barely speak English and are utterly incompetent. I can't express enough how thoroughly disgusted I am with this whole experience with citi. Literally my WORST EVER experience with a US corporation and I have dealt with a lot in my life. I still haven't been able to get my money from them.
Citi Credit Card customer experience...
I've had a Citi Double Cash and a Citi Costco card for about 7 years now and my experience has been pretty good.
I will admit that I charge nearly all my monthly expenses on the Double Cash card and then pay it off each month. By doing this, I've managed to rack up nearly 5 figures worth of cash back over the years while paying no interest. So that's a huge plus. I definitely like this card for that reason! I've also dealt with a few fraudulent charges over the years and Citi has immediately refunded each one.
The Costco card gets used only at Costco, and while I have no problems with it, I don't like that I can only receive the cash back once per year and I can only get the cash back while visiting a Costco (no check-in-the-mail option). But that's more of a "Costco thing" than a "Citi thing."
I will also say that on a couple of occasions, I've accidentally sent my payment to the wrong credit card (i.e. sent it to the Costco card instead of the Double Cash card), and a phone call to Citi has cleared this up. They applied the payment to the other card and backdated it to be on time. My embarrassing mistake, but I appreciate that they did that.
Citibank makes you pay for an error on their end
I opened a new credit account in November 2021.
I did not receive the card and someone started making transactions on the new card. I was traveling at that time and received a call from Citibank to check if I made the transactions: I clearly told them I did not.
When I checked my citibank app, I was asked to activate the card. I don’t get how the person who stole my card could get the transactions through when the card was not activated? The person did not have access to my online banking account neither did he/she have access to my phone to activate the card by text.
I disputed the charges and Citibank then charged me again for some of the transactions. They claimed that i reported fraud only after those transactions had been made so I was responsible since Uber had the “proof” that I took the rides. The “proof” that Uber provided was just receipt of the rides that the person who fraud my card took. It was a brand new Uber account and all the rides taken on the account was paid for by my credit card which had not been activated.
After I reported fraud, they sent me a new card again. And before I could even receive the card, my new card was once again being used by an unauthorized person! How did this happen I don’t know. Citibank definitely has a very weak system in detecting fraud.
I am speechless at how Citibank handled this case.
It wasn’t a lot of money and I am a long-time consumer of Citibank but this makes me rethink if I should bring my business elsewhere
Disgusting and Garbage!!!
This company is disgusting and garbage. Please do not use them!! If you have an account, get out now!!They close customers' accounts with no warning leaving them with no money to pay their billls. They claim they will release your funds at 60 days. This is inhumane and I hope the federal government will soon step in and shut them down. Representatives lie to you each time you call; each one tells a different story, you cant understand most of them, and then they hang the phone up on you. You spend hours and days caught up in their nonsense explanation that amounts to nothing. They are holding consumers' money hostage to make money off of it, this is actually what is going on.
They closed 2 of my accounts and 1 without warning and no one seems to know why. I have been with them for 16 years. You don't have access to any record of your money, and they don't communicate or send any records to you. This is illegal in some way of what they are doing until the government clamps down on them. Corrupt business practice, Do Not Use Them or Get Out Now!!
Never use Citibank!
I had buyer client use Citibank for a loan to purchase a home in Chapel Hill, NC. I allow my clients to choose their lender, after recommending a few local lenders.
In the beginning, everything seemed great. The lenders were efficient and responsive. About 2 weeks after going under contract, which was getting close to Christmas, they were a bit slow on the responses but it wasn’t much to worry about at the time, we had plenty of time until closing and I wanted everyone to enjoy the holidays. Received the appraisal back prior to Christmas and it was well over the contract price, which my buyers were excited about. Right after the New Year, the lender or underwriter realized that the appraisal report had the wrong unit number, which had been overlooked. Humans make mistakes, no worries. However, the underwriter said she was unable to get a response from the appraiser. At the same time the underwriter is asking for information about the HOA, and said the HOA contact was unresponsive. Meanwhile, they ordered a new appraisal, rather than go back to the AMC and get the report fixed, which would have been a faster solution. We had to wait for HOA info and the new appraisal, and missed our closing date. The new appraisal came in at less than half of the first one, and my buyers technically lost $60k in equity, all because Citibank didn’t want to contact the AMC. However, the original appraiser said they did get a request to fix the report and sent the revised report back to Citi a week prior to original closing, Citi claims they didn’t have it. We get all documents requested from the HOA, and 3 days prior to the new closing date, they ask for more HOA info. Even the day before we finally closed, they requested more info from my buyers, which could have been requested with more advanced notice. We had the closing scheduled at 3pm and didn’t get the clear to close until 3:30pm. Citi kept claiming they were putting a rush on everything, however their first rush took 3 days and pushed closing again. They pushed closing a total of 4 times and put my buyers in breech of contract, risking them losing thousands of dollars in Due Diligence because of them dragging their feet and they didn’t seem all too concerned. I will never trust using Citibank for anymore of my transactions. I will strongly encourage my buyers to use a local lender that knows the market, and knows that time is of the essence. Citibank is completely incompetent and I have heard from multiple agents that they would have warned me had they known my buyers chose Citibank. My buyers were unaware about how inept Citi would be during this transaction. Worst experience with a lender EVER!
THIS BANK IS TRASH!!!!!!
THIS BANK IS TRASH!!!!!!! Please take HEED to what I’m saying!!! This bank is worser than Capital One; never though I could find a bank worser thank Capital One. Balance notifications are always wrong so I just turned them off, don’t receive deposit notifications, twice the balance in my account was wrong, and probably was wrong more than twice, but I’ve only caught it twice. Snapshot hasn’t been working for the past 2 days and when I spoke with a rep guess what the rep told me to do….he told me uninstall the app and reinstall the app. That’s how he suggested I fix a IT problem. I’ve been waiting for WEEEEKS for them to fix the problem I’m having with receiving deposit texts. Thank God I didn’t open a credit card with them. I can’t find a good bank to save my life!!!! Don’t waste your time opening an account with them unless you enjoy being annoyed and pissed off!!!!!!!!
Do not trust Citi bank with your funds
Do not trust Citi bank with your funds. I opened a business bank account with Citi. I have several bank accounts with multiple banks and this was the worst banking relationship I have had. My business is an international company which causes me to travel around the U.S. and internationally throughout the year. Citi never had bank locations, nor ATMs, in any of the major cities I traveled except my home city. Citi also allowed companies to draft money from my account without my consent. When I informed citi of the unauthorized drafts, they continued to allow companies to draft money from my account, and never reimbursed me for the unauthorized drafts. Citi customer service is horrible, and they do not truly care about their customers. Do not trust this company with your money.
This Bank is the worst!!!
This Bank is the worst!!!
I havent had any luck with any of my issues related to my credit cards. Every time I call customer service, they provide a different answer, do not have a clue of what to do regarding the problem I call for. I recently had one of my credits cards lost and used at different places, and when call to report those charges, the representative will hang up on me, wont pick up phone calls, or simply the wait time to speak to a real person will soooo long! Please DO NOT MAKE BUSINESS with this junky bank.
Customer service never explained the entire truth.
I was in search of a credit card, 0% interest free for 18 months on balance transfers AND purchases. When I spoke to customer service at Citi Bank, I asked her repeatedly if this was a 0% interest free on both balance transfer and purchases, she said yes..."on balance transfers" She never explained further on 0% interest free for purchases. It seemed as if all she was interested in was for me to begin the application process for the credit card. She pretended not to hear me on 0% interest free for purchases! The card was interest free on balance transfers ONLY and she knew that. You really have to read the application carefully and thoroughly. Credit card companies like Citi Bank will script/prepare mailing offers to read very appealing. I quickly learned that sometimes you can't rely on honestly from customer service. At the end of the day, they will bend the truth or not explain in full just to satisfy their needs. Customer service knew exactly what I meant during our converstation but she decided otherwise, costing me time and money. Another set-back I have to clear up due to dishonesty! Thank you Citi Bank.
I recently tried to open an account…
I recently tried to open an account online and each time at the final stop it said they were having technical difficulties and to try again later. When I tried calling the number they gave I never was able to speak to a live person to find out if the account was open or not. So they have all of my information and I can’t get ahold of any one to get my account number. I will not bank with them after all. I am contacting the agency f of fcc and fraud. So my advice don’t bank here.
Save yourself! Pick a different CC company!
Citi Doublecash cc customer service is a laughingstock of a joke. We got the card and had to verify it twice in the last two weeks. Unfortunately citi seems to be living in the dark ages, because our options were to have them mail a code(no expedition available), call a landline(lol I wish they were joking with that one), or call our OTHER cc bank or a work phone(that we never gave them… THATS secure /s). They refused to send us a text to the other phone number on file and didn’t help us at all except to interrupt me to put me on hold. Save yourself the hassle and pick someone else. This was asinine.
They made a nightmare worse
60-90 days to return 2k that was sent to help save me after being scammed 2 months ago. claimed to call me, didn't even lock account 24 hours before taking extreme measures. offered to drive 6 hours to the nearest branch with ID to get the money I needed weeks ago. It seems they may be a hub for internet scams, beware
Reduced CL twice in six months
Twice within one year they reduced my credit limit for no apparent reason. The first time I disputed they raised it back higher than it was originally. Then offered me a new rewards card which I accepted. The new card was not set up for autopay like my previous one so the payment was a week late. At that time they reduced my credit limit by 70%! They would not accept my dispute due to the late payment. One late payment in six years! Terrible customer service and no regard for their clients. I closed my account on the spot. I’d rather have that on my report and pay it off quick than keep being treated like that and have my credit affected every time they want to do some bs like that.
Citibank robs money from your account
Citibank robs money from your account without any shames! First they charged me $125 "legal" fees for processing a tax garnishment that was later reversed due to error from the Franchise Tax Board. Citibank refused to refund this $125 fees even though the Tax Board said the order was a mistake. They simply played dumb by saying they never received the fax from Tax Board that this was an error, therefore the $125 cannot be reversed. They also took $25 out of my account each month for 8 consecutive months, total of $200, without any alerts or notifications or reminders that my account has been below their required 10k balance. I said I don't remember about this 10K requirement, they said I signed Terms and Agreement. Then I tried to transfer my remaining balance to another bank so I can close my account with Citi, they blocked by not verifying my external bank account, once it was finally verified (after many days), then they limited any transfer amount to only $50 a day, making it an endless effort to get my money out so I can close my account. So I've been transferring $50 a day every day, until 5 attempts later they tell me I've exceeded my monthly limit. Not only there is a daily limit, now there is a monthly limit. Once I wait until the next month, then they can charge me another $25 monthly service fees. Unbelievable and speechless. If you don't call this thievery or robbery, I don't know what is.
3 hours on the phone with 10 reps …
3 (three) hours on the phone with 10 (ten) representatives to get the Citi technical problem solved. You just keep getting transferred around to different representatives, going through the verification process with each of them, repeating your situation (the Citi website’s tech problem) over and over and over, but nobody is willing or is not competent enough to help you. I have been with Citi for two months only, and am already thinking about closing my business with them.
I was a victim of fraudulent charges…
I was a victim of fraudulent charges and Citibank did NOTHING about it. If I could give no stars I would!
