I'll avoid Geneva airport going forward. It's poorly laid out (signage etc.), and passport control is understaffed (4 members of staff for a queue of hundreds and 20 flights going out within one hour). Lots of people were trying to skip, and there was no security to prevent this, which meant there was a lot of yelling and it felt like a fight could break out

I will never use this airport again. 2hr queues to get through passport control - only a couple of desks open because they don’t want to spend the money on a sufficient amount of staff. Bunch of incompetent kids in red jackets running everything else. Baggage hall absolute chaos with bags and ski bags just dumped all over the place, no one to collect bags because they can’t get through passport control.

To top it off on my way home the baggage belt broke and they failed to get a huge number of bags onto peoples flights and they are still failing to get these sent back to people.

Everything in the airport is busy and a total rip off. Avoid at all costs.

This airport is a disgrace.
2 hours to get through passport control on arrival and similar problems on return with desperate passengers in a horrendous scrum trying to get through to their departing flights.
Baggage claim was an utter mess with ski equipment randomly dumped everywhere.
Airport staff stood around completely indifferent to the chaos.
This was no extraordinary one-off issue. The airport authorities had to be well aware of the passenger volumes on a busy Saturday in the middle of the ski season. Providing 4 passport control staff was so inadequate as to be beyond belief and the pitiful number of passport staff actually on duty appeared to be taking malicious pleasure in taking as long as possible to process each passenger.
I could not believe that a country with Switzerland’s reputation for efficiency and cleanliness could tolerate such a poor advert for their country.
Will never use this airport again.

Normally a perfectly decent airport, but this January they were a disaster. They have narrowed the queues for check-in desks so have BANNED LUGGAGE TROLLEYS from the queues! This lead to a very long, slow queue as everyone slowly dragged luggage forwards. This happened to a ski flight - floor covered in ski bags.
Their oversized baggage check-in on a Saturday was totally overwhelmed. Ski bags and boot bags were being stacked on cargo trolleys, or simply left in piles on the floor. No surprise, when we got to the UK, none of the ski bags had made it onto the plane for multiple flights. Apparently this has been an ongoing problem all 2026.
Then our UK flight had to go through passport control via an underground tunnel to the satellite gates. But the queue system for passport control only started at the end of the large corridor - however half the corridor filled up with passengers. Air conditioning was overwhelmed. Tip - try cheating, like other passengers did, and walk down the deactivated travellators to skip most of the queue.
Advice - avoid Saturdays. Also, be ready to run for your gate the *moment* they announce it.
Credit however to the staff - I think management have ruined something for them? Individual staff were all being lovely but looked so stressed.

At one point, I felt I had been transported to a time prior to modern airports! A truly awful airport experience. Rammed full. No seats. Upstairs, then downstairs, then along corridor and back again. Sound systems don’t work. No announcements. Switzerland needs a better airport. The only good aspect was quite a nice pizza slice but cost over £11!!

Would give zero if I could

Long queues everywhere. No where to sit. Herded like sheep.

I will not be going back. A truly awful start and end to a fab week skiing. What you think you make up in short transfer times you loose by the total chaos and stress of this poorly managed airport. I would advise any friend to avoid st all costs.

Passport control arriving into Geneva is shocking. Over 2 hour wait. Checking in on our return, over 1.5 hour wait. This airport is a disgrace

Without a doubt the worst airport I have ever visited, we arrived last Saturday morning and then spent almost 3 hours getting through passport control, therefore missing our shuttle bus to Megeve, then having to arrange a private transfer at our cost. Followed today by another passport control delay on our return back to Heathrow when we spent over an hour getting through. Only making the flight due to the plane being delayed 35 minutes.
What an outrageous situation.
I will never travel through this airport again.

This has to be the worst airport in a first world country - an embarrassment for Swiss efficiency. Avoid using this airport if you possibly can.

There is rarely a flight that leaves on time. Even the first flight in the morning departs late. I guess the “Swiss” standards are starting to reveal their true colours.

Personnellement je voyage 2 à 3 fois par an depuis GVA, je m'y rends comme dans tous les aéroports internationaux 3 heures avant l'heure d'embarquement, mon sac cabine est déjà organisé selon les prescriptions en vigueur, je passe le contrôle sécurité rapidement malgré une longue file d'attente, puis le contrôle passeport. Oui, moi et ma famille nous avons un nom bien d'ici. Oui nous sommes locaux et avons de bonnes têtes. Mais nous faisons les choses correctement et tout se passe bien. Vous vous plaignez sans arrêt? Remettez vous peut-être en question! Préparez vos affaires en suivant les directives, achetez votre vignette autoroutière en ligne en 2 min depuis chez vous au lieu de perdre du temps à vous arrêter à la douane de Bardonnex en stationnement n'importe comment, respectez les limitations de vitesse pour ne pas être dans le stress et flashé, prenez une place de parking payante au P51 ou dans un parking avec transfert aux alentours, ne vous garez pas à la française sur les voies de circulation ou de bus à l'aéroport, respectez les autres usagers du Kiss n fly en faisant une simple dépose sans accompagner une autre personne à l'enregistrement et fumer une cigarette en bloquant les autres usagers, sortez votre bouteille d'eau et crème à bronzer avant de passe au scanner, ouvrez votre passeport et répondez poliment à la douane lors du contrôle, et vous verrez que tout se passera bien.
Pour finir, une citation de Dostoïevski: la tolérance atteindra un tel niveau que les personnes intelligentes seront interdites de toutes réflexions pour ne pas offenser les imbéciles.

Awful airport. Long queues for passport control flying in- (over 100m long), and the same flying out, with only 3 X-ray scanners out of 14 in operation. No where to sit, slow WiFi and toilets that can only cope with 3 people at a time…

Today’s experience at Geneva Airport was nothing short of a disgrace: hours trapped in passport-control queues that barely moved, in conditions that felt chaotic, poorly planned, and completely unmanaged. There was no meaningful communication, no visible leadership, and no sense that anyone in authority cared in the slightest.
The staff, appeared sullen and disengaged, offering neither explanation nor apology as hundreds of passengers were left stewing in frustration. This wasn’t an unexpected surge, it was systemic failure playing out in real time.
For Switzerland, a country that prides itself on precision, efficiency, and competence, this was humiliating. The nation should hang its head in shame for presiding over such a shambolic excuse for an international transport hub. Geneva Airport is not merely underperforming; it is fundamentally broken.
Avoid if you can. This airport actively undermines travel plans, goodwill, and Switzerland’s reputation. I would not trust it with a tight connection, a business trip, or even basic dignity for passengers.

Passport control in and out has always been slow but recently it’s beyond awful. There is no reason to wait one to two hours.

Shockingly bad. Queued for two hours on landing. Queued again for 2 hours to leave.

Well had I read the reviews before booking, I would have used another airport.
The queues were horrendous for passport control. We waited for over 90 mins. By the time we got to baggage pickup our flight was not listed. Thankfully there was a young lad working at baggage who checked his phone and told us which conveyor our flight had been using.
On return I mistakenly thought it would be better as we were exiting the country. Again long queues checking passports before getting to boarding gate.
IF you use Geneva Airport ensure you add on 2 hours of queuing to allow for onward travel etc.

Absolutely shocking. The queue for passport control was bad enough (longer than our flight time from the UK), but baggage reclaim was a scene of total carnage. The contents of numerous flights piled up with no logic whatsoever, and ignorant staff treating people's expensive ski equipment with contempt. I assumed this was all due to the new ESS requirements, but we merely had our passports stamped in the 'traditional' way - and reading past reviews suggests that Geneva has been like this for years. Somehow we have always dodged the trouble on previous ski trips. Moral - don't go skiing on a Saturday, or fly to Lyon. It can't possibly be as bad. Even the train would have been quicker.

Passport control a complete shambles , so much for Swiss efficiency. Had to join a bus queue before we were allowed into the terminal to join the 400m queue which took just under two hours !

It’s not as if they don’t know what flights are arriving , a complete lack of planning.

3hrs from walking down from plane to getting outside! 4 people on passport control for thousands coming sking from the UK. This is very wrong, nobody cares. People coming skiing is nothing new but you are deliberately not doing anything to help the situation. Avoid Geneva.

Horrible horrible airport. Arrogant staff, filthy dirty toilets, out of control security and outdated equipment. Only exists because of the city hub and the Alps otherwise this airport would be finished.
