Broken table = ‘GOGW’
Upon delivering our table today, one of the drivers dropped a leg and significantly damaged it. We were told there weren’t any others in stock but we could have the table taken away, or have it assembled and a replacement leg be arranged. I was then told it’s a minimum of 6 weeks to wait, which considering we disposed of our old table and we have a young family, we can’t be without a table, but given the substantial damage to the leg and the fact we have a young child, it is a huge inconvenience as we will have to keep her away from that half of the table until it’s resolved. At this point the delivery team had already assembled the table.
I emailed some photos over after they’d left and was met with ‘why have you sent these, do you still want an exchange?’. I said yes - I was sending photos to show what position we’d been put in, and asked for a refund of the delivery fee and a partial refund of the table. I was then told my gesture of goodwill was being allowed to keep the table. When I queried again about the delivery fee, I was told this isn’t possible as ‘we delivered your order’. I asked for the manager details and was asked ‘why, you’ll just be told the same thing’. We’ve shopped here for years and spent a lot of money in that time, but I’m appalled by the ‘service’ received today. The delivery lads were lovely and accidents happen, but the so called customer care at HU really don’t care as soon as they’ve got your money.
**UPDATE: 25/09. Initially received an email from a manager to say there would be no compensation offered and any GOGW would be in the form of a gift voucher or a restaurant voucher, and they could possibly loan us a table while we waited. I contacted the Ombudsman as none of the proposed outcomes were acceptable. I then received a phone call where they have now found a replacement leg (I did mention in my correspondence that there were other Montanas on site but was told ‘it’s out of stock’, yet one has materialised less than 24 hours later). I informed them that an Ombudsman case has been raised, and then received another email from the manager confirming the leg was coming and because I’d gone to the Ombudsman ‘no offer of goodwill will be made now’.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to read that what should have been a straightforward delivery of your new table turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience.
We completely appreciate the inconvenience caused when the table leg was accidentally damaged during delivery. Our delivery team reported the incident immediately, and our Customer Care team contacted you while the drivers were still at your home to explain the options available, including arranging a replacement table. We understand that being advised of a six-week lead time was understandably frustrating, particularly as you had already disposed of your previous table.
When you subsequently decided to keep the table while we arranged the replacement, your case remained open and our intention was to arrange the exchange as soon as replacement stock became available. We also continued to look into alternative solutions and, the following morning, we were able to locate a matching table in our distribution centre, allowing us to offer a replacement leg rather than requiring you to wait for a completely new table.
We’re pleased that a solution was found quickly, but we accept that the communication around your request for compensation and the delivery charge left you feeling that your concerns were not being listened to. That is not how we want our Customer Care team to make any customer feel, particularly someone who has shopped with us for many years.
We understand that you subsequently advised us that you had raised the matter with the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman. As the Ombudsman does not consider cases that are still open with the retailer, we understand that this brings the matter to a conclusion through Housing Units. We hope that the alternative solution offered, a replacement leg from matching stock, provides a satisfactory resolution to the original delivery issue.
We appreciate your comments regarding our delivery team, and we’re pleased to hear that they were lovely throughout. Accidents can happen, but it is how we respond and support our customers afterwards that matters, and we’ll be using your feedback to review how this type of situation is communicated and managed.
Thank you again for your longstanding support of Housing Units. We’re genuinely sorry that this experience left you with a very different impression of our customer service.

Appalling customer service
Appalling customer service, shocking company. The table is two different colours, the legs don't fit... I emailed to ask for someone to come and see it and I didn't even ask for a replacement or refund - they refused within two hours of my initial email. In all my years I've never come across such bad customer service.

We have reviewed the circumstances and can confirm that the matter was considered by our Customer Services team based on the information and photographs provided.
The table was supplied with packaging instructions advising customers to inspect all components fully before assembly, as assembly is considered acceptance of the product. We understand that you proceeded with assembly and subsequently raised concerns regarding the fit of the components and the natural variation in colour between the reclaimed wood elements.
Our team reviewed the photographs and product information available and confirmed that the appearance of the table is consistent with the reclaimed wood construction and the product shown online. Having considered the circumstances of the complaint, our final response was provided and you were referred to the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman should you wish to pursue the matter independently.
We appreciate that this is not the outcome you were hoping for, and we acknowledge your comments regarding the handling of your complaint. As the matter has now been referred to the independent Ombudsman process, we feel it would be inappropriate to comment further on the specifics of the case at this stage.

Dealing with a real physical business with real people who care about customers was a joy. My order arrived late
My order arrived late , I had to call to check on my order when I had paid for the delivery for 3-5 days. 1 item which I had bought was no longer available, I never got an email or call to inform me of that . I wasn’t happy this time around about the service.

The item was showing as available in stock at the time you placed your order, which is why you were able to purchase it. Unfortunately, when our team came to locate the item, it could not be found and we therefore had to refund the order for that product.
Regrettably, our stock system had not alerted us that the item was unavailable, which meant we were unable to notify you sooner. We appreciate that this was disappointing, particularly as you had paid for a 3–5 day delivery service, and we apologise for the inconvenience and lack of communication.
