- Corrupted Warranty Process and Canned Script Bureaucracy
I am writing this to expose the completely fraudulent and broken warranty process managed by Pentair Technical Support (specifically dealing with Support Specialist Laura Dunn under Ticket/Cell S/N 1225238220248L).
I submitted a warranty claim for a 2-year-old IntelliChlor IC40 salt cell that completely suffered a mechanical/electrical component failure and stopped receiving power and producing chlorine. Instead of diagnosing the hardware, Pentair's warranty department holds your claim hostage using a scripted "chemistry check" trap designed entirely to avoid honoring their legal product replacement obligations.
The technical support team denied my warranty based on circular logic that defies basic pool engineering. They explicitly blamed a non-functioning chlorine generator for a low Free Chlorine reading of 0.3 ppm. The generator is *broken*—that is why the chlorine is low. Expecting a pool owner to manually buy and dump liquid chemicals into a pool just to satisfy a paperwork checklist for a defective product completely defeats the purpose of buying a $1,200+ automated salt cell.
Furthermore, they used minor, harmless variances—such as a stabilizer level missing their "ideal" target by a mere 2 ppm—to completely void a hardware warranty. They also claimed low calcium hardness (which actually *protects* titanium plates from scaling) was "equipment wear," despite visual photographic proof sent to them showing the internal plates were completely immaculate, scale-free, and undamaged.
Pentair intentionally uses front-line customer service agents to copy-and-paste manual guidelines as a barrier to wear down consumers until their warranty windows expire. Their products are overpriced for the low tier of component reliability they offer, and their customer service is a bureaucratic joke. I have completely abandoned the Pentair brand, severed my system from their hardware ecosystem, and purchased a far superior aftermarket cell (APX Performance) that actually features digital diagnostics instead of blind, flashing error lights.
Do not trust this company to back their products. If your cell breaks within its warranty window, expect a scripted brush-off instead of a replacement part.
- Survey Field Tips:
Train technical support specialists to understand basic mechanical cause-and-effect rather than blindly reading scripts to deny claims.
- Would I recommend Pentair to a friend?
Never.
Customer Service is non-existent
I have what I believe to be a defective Prowler cleaner control panel. I called Pentair customer service the first time and was told by the recording it was a 2hr wait. But, I could leave my number for a call back from the company... that never happened. I tried emailing the company twice. Each time it flagged that the email couldn't be completed because pop-up blockers were on my computer. I checked and both times the blockers were turned off. I just tried to contact them via phone again today and waited 38 minutes with no answer.
This company's customer service is a complete joke!
I do think Pentair products are, in general, good. I have had a pool supplied with Pentair products for years and I have had little problems with them. But, if something does go wrong, don't expect any help from this company. I will not recommend any company that cannot, or will not, back up their products with good customer service.
You have just lost a customer!
Terrible products, worse customer service
You need a negative star option.
We have had at least five Pentair pool heaters (Mastertemp 250) in the past 17 years. The first two lasted through several seasons. Since August of 2023, we have had THREE of the same model. The one installed in August of 2023 lasted a little more than one season, the one installed in May of 2025 lasted barely a season, and the one installed two weeks ago worked for three days. Technicians from our pool company and from Pentair’s representative in Toronto, Canada (Scottish Gas) tried for hours to get the thing working, including calling Pentair’s tech support. No success.
To add insult to injury, Pentair does not respond to Scottish Gas’s emails asking for a replacement heater. Furthermore, there is no way for an end user like me to contact them without going through endless conversations with AI bots online or on the phone; nor do they provide an email address for customers.
I am so fed up with Pentair’s lemons and non-existent customer service that I am considering spending money we can’t afford on another brand of heater, even though the two-week-old one is still under warranty.
UPDATE: With some sleuthing, I found a name at Pentair to contact because nobody was responding to Scottish Gas. Pentair will provide me with a new heater, thankfully, but it should not have taken so much investigating by technicians and complaining by me to get reliable heating for our pool.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE ..
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE ... CUSTOMER SERVICE, COMPANY, TOTAL JOKE! BOUGHT BRAND NEW PENTAIR HEATER, INSTALLED A MONTH AGO, HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES. FACEBOOK MESSAGE, CUSTOMER SERVICE INQUIRY, AND NOTHING! HAS NOT WORKED SINCE DAY 1, COMPANY IS THE WORST
Pentair LT-25 Chlorine Generator DOA
LT 25 Chlorine Generator purchased online from PPP Fast for $900.00. I had confirmed that this new model was fully compatible with my PC-100 Power Supply. Unit received promptly via Priority Mail, well packaged win no damage. Previous IC model had timed out after six years or so. Installed the LT 25 according to instructions, plugged proprietary cable into PC 100, energized the system and nothing. Checked PC 100 Fuse and output, all good. Registered the LT 25 with Pentair, received registration confirmation email and dialed them up. Old story here, my second attempt remained on hold for well over three hours. Found Web based email facility, sent email, crickets. Sent next email, nothing. Sent email to PPP Fast detailing the issue and confirming they had sent the unit promptly and it was received with no damage. Nothing. Contacted Dispute department with Citi Card and sent them all the details. They put a hold on charges to my card and said to expect 45 days for solution. Received two letters from Citi within two weeks. One reversing hold on charging me and the other proportion to be Vendor Response. It was from PPP Fast only and consisted of itemized tracking detail on Priority Mail shipment. I could have printed this out myself. Nothing from Pentair, apparently no contact by Citi to Pentair and DONE! Citi decided that since the online vendor had shipped the dead item, case closed. I'm out $903.47 for the unit and another $280.00 for 20# of Chlorine tabs to keep my pool alive. Unless I can untangle this mess I will also be faced with purchase of a Haywood or Jandy Chlorine Generator for at least another $1,000 bringing my total to near $2,200.00. I'll keep after Citi but my hopes for them doing an actual investigation are slim. I am unable to grasp what Pentair is doing to screw a customer this bad but they need to be brought to Justice.
Deeply regretting buying this product
Deeply regretting buying this product. They don't answer the phone.
I called Pentair's customer service…
I called Pentair's customer service number and spent 20 minutes yesterday, and 30 minutes (so far) today and have not reached a person. I believe this is a fake number that they know you will lose patience and give up. I just doing other work while holding. Also, if you got to the "help center" they recommend, the website is worthless for a residence customer.
Warranty Claims are designed to make you insane
I've had a Pentair pool for 7 years. In that time, I've had the pool pump and three salt cells break.
Two of the salt cells were covered under warranty, with warranty claims submitted by the installer. The installer told me that when they submit a warranty claim, they just have to wait and see if Pentair ever sends them a part, which often takes months.
The pump was not covered by warranty. Now, my latest salt cell, an Intellichlor Plus 30 has stopped producing chlorine. It has had a total of 4 months of use. This time around, my pool installer left me in the lurch, so I decided to submit a warranty claim myself.
The only way for a customer to submit a claim is to call Pentair. First, a robot asks you to spell your name. Whatever you say and no matter how clearly you speak, it will always get it wrong. Eventually you just move forward with an incorrect name. Then, you're told "We're currently expecting higher than normal call volume." You will be told this every 30 seconds, and directed to their website, where you cannot file a warranty claim. I'm not kidding, I timed it. Every 30 seconds for hours.
It does not matter what day or time you call, it will always be the same. You'll then wait on hold for anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. The goal here is to make you hang up and go away a little less sane than you were before, not answer your call. But if you engage in this deranged social experiment and say on the phone long enough, a perfectly pleasant rep will eventually come on the line.
There are other pool equipment companies with better warranties, but Pentair locks you in by incentivizing pool builders to use their products. So you're stuck constantly replacing Pentair products with other Pentair products because you don't want to rip out your whole system to put another brand in. If you're here before building your pool, don't use Pentair products.
Is Pentair still in business?
We have recently purchased a new home that has Pentair products installed, including salt free water softener and Whole house water filter.
We wanted to have a service done and attempted to reach out to the company.
Not sure if the company is still in business. It does not pick up any calls at customer service. It does not return calls. It does not respond to messages.
If is isn't out of business, it deserves to be so.
Customer Service is Atrocious!!!
I just installed a pool with all Pentair equipment - Intellipro VS pump, Clean & Clear filter, valves, Intellicenter, Intellichlor, Max-E-Therm gas spa heater, Intellibrite spa and pool lights, Intellichem pH, etc. I have been on hold for over 90 minutes waiting to talk to technical service regarding expansion modules. It is obvious that Pentair does not care about customer service and is VERY DISRESPECTING of their customers. Don't buy from them - RUN!
Pentair doesnt honor their warranty
I am frustrated & disgusted with Pentair products. They do not honor their warranties and refuse to accept responsibility for their poorly built products and instead they blame the customer. My current issue is regarding a pool heater I purchased and had professionally installed on November 15, 2025, at a total cost of $3,700. The heater was used only once in December 2025. In March 2026, after installing a new Pentair pool pump, I discovered the heater was no longer functioning. Considering the unit was only four months old with minimal use, I believe the heater was defective. Because the heater failed, I was unable to properly run my pool system, making it very difficult to maintain safe chemical levels and circulation. Following my pool technician’s advice, I attempted to manage the issue as best as possible while waiting for service. On March 25, 2026, I filed a warranty claim with Pentair. A technician inspected the heater and identified a faulty component and a water leak. However, several weeks later, Pentair denied my warranty claim, stating the damage was caused by “improper chemical maintenance.” I strongly disagree with this conclusion. My pool chemicals were properly maintained before the heater failed. Any imbalance occurred only after the malfunction prevented normal operation of the pool system. I had to mix and distribute the chemicals by hand which is impossible to maintain. I requested that the technician document these circumstances in the report submitted to Pentair unsure if he did. I am retired & raising my young granddaughter after the loss of my son, and this purchase was a major expense for me. I saved for months to afford this heater and expected a quality product backed by its warranty. I am request that Pentair honor its warranty and provide a repair or replacement for the defective heater. I hope the company will stand behind its product and resolve this matter quickly & fairly. If I could give them a minus star score I would. I will NEVER buy another pentair product again!!!
Had an intellichlor IC-40 plus…
Had an intellichlor IC-40 plus installed by a professional less than a month ago and it's already crapped out on me. I've tried calling customer service twice, waited an hour and a half the second time, have yet to receive a call back for either. I've also left an online request and have yet to receive a response.
The customer service for a BRAND NEW part is horrendous and I'm honestly appalled.
I bought a Pentair SuperFlo 1.5 VS
I bought a Pentair SuperFlo 1.5 VS. It lasted about a year and a half before it started making very loud sounds. Pentair sent me parts to fix it myself. I took the whole pump apart just to realize they sent me the wrong parts. None of the parts fit. What a waste of money.
Terrible customer service
Have been trying for a week to get ahold of Pentair for pump issue. After it failed last year as well. DO not recommend. Sat on hold for almost 3 hours yesterday and then tried again today and still on hold. Faulty equipment and terrible customer service!
New chlorinators are junk
Ic40s were great chlorinators , the new ones with three separate parts are junk. If they get wet they go out and cost 500$ for a circuit board that’s gonna crap out the next rain
Customer no-service
Replacement (and new) IC-40 Salt Generator less than a year old and not working. Have called numerous times over two days (once for 45 minutes, a few times for 15 or so AND entering a callback) but NOTHING. How can this outfit be in business? I wonder if customer service got dumped to Manitowoc who has no experience with "peak pool season."
I have a complete Pentair system(pump
I have a complete Pentair system(pump, salt generator, and intelligent controller).
I’ve had Hayward in the past.
Back to the problem. I’ve built my current pool 5 years ago, and have had terrible luck with their Intelli-Chlor IC40. The first 2 had issues with the electronic sensors that report salt levels, and flow. Pentair sent me new parts to repair the cell, and got it back running. The next issue was complete failure, and no warranty was left, so, I bought another IC40. This cell lasted a season. Called Pentair and had no warranty since it was customer installed(1 yr old).
Replaced last year with a new IC40plus. Got a good season out of it. A week ago, I opened the pool, and the cell started normally, and then 10 minutes later, it tripped the low voltage breaker on the EasyTouch controller. Called Pentair. On hold for 2hours, then they closed and left me on hold. Called from a different phone while I was still on the other line. And the prompts said we’re closed.
Not pleased.
Next morning at 9:00 Eastern, called right when they opened, and waiting for another hour and a half. Finally got a rep, and was told that I have to have a local pool builder/retailer come out and look(614Pools.com). They’ve never called me back. It’s pool building season now.
Tried calling Pentair back and waited 2 hours and once again they closed in the middle of my wait. When you spend $1400 for a salt cell, you’d expect better. Bottom line, it’s still not resolved and Pentair doesn’t care. On hold again. At over an hour already, and it’s only 10:00am.
I have a warranty but no way to resolve the problem.
Bottom line - Buyer beware. DONT BUY PENTAIR.
Terrible products and no customer support.
Pentair is junk
I sub contract from two pool companies and have my own pool. I would never recommend pentair pool equipment especially their lights. I’ve replaced mine several times times already and the latest one didn’t even last a day before the housing cracked. These are cheap lights mostly made of plastic. I’ve also had to replace my salt system. Do yourself a favor and buy jandy.
Pretty decent
Pentair is great if you can reach them, I only wish they would get some more CSRs on staff to process calls, or create a support inbox for easier communication on warranty claims.
