I attend a group on Thursdays in Tiverton Devon. My consultant Sarah Ruffett is amazing. She is there for support in group and in between groups she is a message or phone call away. Always remember – Slimming World is a corporate machine focussed on profits.
I’ve been a long-term member and active part of the social team, supporting members and doing weekly weigh-ins. I’ve given a huge amount of time and commitment to the group, and supporting others has always mattered to me.
Due to health issues affecting my weight loss, I asked for a short break from being a paying member to focus on my health. My intention was to continue as part of the social team, just stepping back from weighing in temporarily.
This was initially agreed—but then reversed due to policy, stating non-members cannot attend at all (profits over people). What’s particularly disappointing is that exceptions have clearly been made for years when it suited those enforcing the rules. This inconsistency feels disheartening and, in my view, discriminatory.
At a time I genuinely needed support, it wasn’t there. Instead, it reinforced how rigid and corporate-driven the organisation is, with policy and profit taking priority over people.
While some benefit from Slimming World’s approach, if your journey isn’t as straightforward as their homogenised magazine success stories, be aware, consultants are limited by corporate rules in how much they can actually support you.

IT’S NOT A DIET
I recommend anyone struggling with their weight to give Slimming World a go.
You will be surprised how much you can eat, most members who come back to group after joining will say “I can’t believe how much I can eat”.
It’s not a diet, it’s a healthy life style.
I’ve been a member for many years & at target too & I still go every week.
I still pick up hints & tips from other members, I’ve met some lovely friends along the way too.

It’s a big business and Members don’t matter
After 18 months of attendance and paying, I reached target weight October 25. That December SW surreptitiously changed the target weight attendance agreement from 8 weeks to 4. I feel very cheated about this action and how it was introduced pre Christmas by our consultant. Nothing on the website. I wrote to Customer Service expressing my disappointment and received a reassuring reply that Consultants were being given new information as there had been a lot of misunderstanding but I shouldn’t worry. Total lies. There was no further announcements and the four weekly rule still stood. I had counted on the then fact that SW would be there for me in the weight maintenance stage but they moved the goalposts. There is nothing to be found online and we members were left checking this out with other members in different groups to see where we stood. This programme is long term and a financial commitment. We members deserve consistency and loyalty. I feel totally let down that within weeks of achieving a much worked for result, the “reward” of attending without payment providing you are still within 3 pounds of target, had been so drastically altered. But the founder of SW had passed away that year and her ethics passed with her. This wasn’t what I had signed up for and feel deceived by policy and Customer Service palming me off with blatant lies.

We’re really sorry to hear how you’ve been feeling about your experience since then, and we completely understand how important clarity and consistency are, especially at such an important stage of your journey.
We’d like to reassure you that nothing has changed in terms of our support for our fabulous target members.
Target members are welcome to attend Slimming World groups as little or as often as they wish – weekly, monthly, or longer. The eight-week club rule refers to access to the members only website Lifelineonline and the Slimming World app. If target members don’t attend group for eight weeks, their access to the website and app stops until they return to group, when it is then restored.
Naturally, eight weeks is a long time, so we’d encourage target members to come to group as often as they can or as often as they feel they need to, to maintain their dream weight and catch it quickly if ever they should dip outside their target weight range. The book suggests four weeks, but it is absolutely each member’s choice.
If you’d like to talk this through further or need any additional clarification, our Customer Services team would be more than happy to help - please do get in touch.

Been a member since 2004, it has worked for me, even during three pregnancies, and now through menopause. Its got harder as I've got older due to homones, but it's still the plan to follow for me. Give it a go you won't regret it

Fiber and gut issues
Good information on pod cast on what to eat to get your body working properly, very clear understanding of how we feel,
Brilliant variety of fibers both good and bad fibers, information given that I didn't know, which is more clearer now.
I've been a member for a few years and lost 3.5 stone.
Thought I could do it on my own put just half stone back on but I'm nearly back up to my 3 stone loss,

Slimming World with Eloise WSM
I attend @Slimming World with Eloise in Weston super Mare on a Tuesday night at 7pm, as a guy I don’t feel out of place and definitely fully included in group.
The group is inspirational led by Eloise who knows her stuff about the plan and gives 100% support to everyone. I’ve been attending now for a few years losing now over 5 stone as well all the great food ideas we discuss, motivation talks from Eloise to keep us thinking, the friendships I’ve made are for life. Losing weight has its ups and downs it’s never easy but we are definitely a no judgement group just there for each other. We also have the best taster nights in Weston super Mare probably SW 😉 Weston’s number 1 group I’ve tried the rest now at the best!

Slimming World with Bexie.
I joined Slimming World with Bexie in June 2025 and have now lost 5st 2lbs. It’s a lovely group, I go to the Monday 10.30am group in Netherton. Bexie and all the members are so welcoming and encouraging. I was nervous about joining but contacted Bexie to ask if I could bring my Hearing Dog to group as I’m profoundly deaf. I didn’t need to worry as everyone welcomed us as soon as we walked through the doors. My eating habits have changed and my confidence is returning. If you’re thinking of joining a group, I can recommend it and know it works.

Eloise is a pillar of support at my 9.30 Monday class. I lost just over 2 stone over 13 months and have kept it off and it has quite honestly changed my life.
