The Handshake website first gathers as much personal information about you as possible, only to let you know that they do not work with people outside of the US i.e. in your region. It would be great to have known this before pressing the "submit" button.
How do I now delete my info that they have on their database?
I hope more people realise that the "Data Annotation" job application processes allegedly available online, is just another way to collect data to boast to their potential clients about their "pool of experts" i.e. idiots that fall for this as a income opportunity.

Handshake invited me to join their platform through LinkedIn. After I completed all the onboarding steps including providing required information, when I was about to take the assessment, they restricted me from taking the assessment by saying that some irregular activity associated with my account was found. Looks like they are doing a scam for collecting data.

Horrible. I onboarded without pay and then randomly just had my account deactivated. I was also phished on the website via messaged to deceptive page asking for my card information, disguised as payment information

They kick off top performers from their programs and steal their wages

Signed up for multiple projects, only for literally every single one (3 out of 3) to be cancelled before I could submit any work or receive payment.

Completely fraudulent organization. Do not waste your time and wait for them to go bankrupt.

I have 3 years experience working in AI, and I have never seen such a cluster$*#k as Handshake. It was clear from the start that they don't care about our time because their initial qualification says it takes 10 minutes, but it is a 2-3 hour task, even if you know what you are doing. On top of that, the qual had broken images and videos needed to pass. There is no support except for an AI bot that can't do anything, and the text is graded by AI, so no human even looks at your work to see if you are qualified. I wasted 3 hours on that when I could have been making good money on another platform. Then I had to beg for them to delete my account because I was no longer comfortable with them having my bank account information. Nothing got done with that until I said I would get my lawyer involved.

To future employees: There are better services. This whole site seems to be a way to setup recent college grads so that they'll do low paying "intern" work. If you are experienced, there are better places. Their pay is low, and zero consideration for your time.

To future clients: They use AI slop to grade their broken qualifications. That means anyone who has passed recently just had lucky guesses. And AI isn't even Beta ready let alone grading ready, I'd find another service that doesn't use slop to check human work because you should be paying for it to be the other way around.

Account was randomly "Temporarily suspended" just minutes after creating an account and verifying with my drivers license, with zero notice, and their "trust and safety" team doesn't answer their emails.

I sent a slightly longer than normal message to my manager on here and they flagged me as a bot and deleted all my messages. Like ok

Abysmal, last week in a project I was working on with them they cut my hours by half when I was working over quality? And not to mention they didn’t say why or anything. I’ve gone ahead and opened up a dispute. I want my hours, you thieves!

Signed up with Handshake and they want to verify everything about you to make sure it's you. Finally received an offer that I thought was interesting so I accepted the invitation. Then they wanted to re-verify everything they had already verified. Then they wanted me to re-enter all the info that is shown on my resume. Don't waste your time with them because they surely don't care about wasting yours.

Same thing as someone else said. Emails IMMEDIATELY forced on me by my college's partnership with handshake. They're even pushing Handshake AI career coaches onto us, you can't even schedule a career coach appointment without using handshake which seems geared to skim AI gig labor from the national student body.

Why aren't regulators putting an end to all these scams!?! This company is clearly data mining people's hard work.

Incessant email campaign forced on me by my college's stupid partnership with handshake. Not to mention handshake totally sold out to AI. Every email is Ai this Ai that.

Promised me compensation for work but refused to pay me.

Enjoyed working on the HAI platform early in 2026 but they have gone downhill quite bad. Mostly "per task" payments and shady practices compared to per hour payments before. Worst thing is the lack of transparency. Been on the platform for months and part of a great project for a while but then recently just got banned from the platform with no reason given and no way to appeal. I wasn't even working on a project at the time of the ban. I was just getting my identity verified for a new project. Oh well. Time to move on.

This entire company is useless. There’s nothing but. bogus jobs and all the spam email from these fake companies.
Don’t get me started on the AI works I hope someone sue their pants off.

They wouldn't verify me. But sent me several emails to take the assessment, i took that several twice. Received a message from some woman on the platform advising me that I could proceed to fill out jobs, still had banner on page, couldn't get verified. So many conflicting emails, saying apply for job you've been approved, then log in and there's same banner about verification. Nerver has human contacted me by email or phone. I have emailed them at least 6 times. Their customer service is horrific. Today i received this with no explanation.

Useless support. Don’t bother. Wasted too much time dealing with incompetent people

I recently started doing work for handshake after receiving numerous invitations to apply for projects. I ignored it for a while. 2 weeks ago I decided to give it a try. I passed this challenging assesment for one project and I did receive my bonus but was unable to begin tasking. Randomy my account was placed into "Application under review" After working for two weeks.

This is the reason given by the help chat:

"After submitting your application to the Handshake AI Fellowship, your information is reviewed by our team on a rolling basis. Applications are matched to projects based on project needs, qualifications, experience, and area of expertise. If your application status reverted to "under review," it may indicate that your profile is being re-evaluated for current or future project opportunities. This does not necessarily mean there is an issue with your application.

Please note:

Submitting an application does not guarantee placement on a project.
Project invitations depend on partner demand and project availability.
Some projects may require additional evaluations, training exercises, or portfolio reviews before selection.
If you have further concerns or specific questions about your application status, let me know, and I can assist further."

This is after I was already working and passed the necessary assesments. Also, it is easy not to get paid for work performed. The timer may not work, or the time update is delayed so you must keep track of your own time.

If you have time to waste and want to try and make a few bucks this is the platform. No real consistency. It has been 5 days and no one has resolved the issue. They requested official transcripts, letters signed from current or previous employers, portfolio, published works, etc... RIdiculous!
