A great day out
A great day out. Felt welcomed and a great effort by the onboard team who gave a very good account of the railway. Trains and stations were very well looked after clean tidy. Well worth the price paid for the visit.

Lovely breakfast- beautiful views- interesting information although the speaker system did break up at times. Good to get off and see the trains being restored. Sometimes hard to hear the talk as we couldn’t get close enough to the speaker. Very friendly and helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyable and will do again.

Borsers/Heritage Trip
We love coming to Churnet Valley, and todays trip exceeded our expectations. What an amazing day we had. The staff are lovely, polite and friendly, always having a smile. We loved hearing of the new plans they have in store. At the workshop, our guide Jack, was very informative. It was great to see the projects being undertaken at first hand. Will definitely do the Borders/Heritage trip again.

Amazing day out, great experience and well worth upgrading to the dining option. Food was delicious, staff were super friendly and attentive and the train carriages were gorgeous. Fantastic day and can’t wait to do it again

A trip through the Staffordshire countryside.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the railway. We passed through wooded areas passing the Churnet river .
The journey seems so much farther than it actually was.
The staff were great both on the train and platform.
We were pleasantly surprised that a good and drinks trolley came round and we both enjoyed a bacon cob.

I can add a family of 4 for a journey…
I can add a family of 4 for a journey on a Saturday morning and we'd travelled from Frodsham in Cheshire. The train broke down about a 1/3 way into the journey and had to return to the station. We weren't offered any kind of refund and no acknowledgement that costs for days out is expensive these days. I wrote to the company via their website and didn't hear anything back.

We have checked our records using the booking reference quoted, 170355, and this booking was for three passengers travelling on Sunday 6th September, rather than a family of four travelling on a Saturday morning.
We have also checked our records for correspondence received through our website and cannot find any correspondence relating to the issue described in your review.
We would therefore be grateful if you could contact us directly with the correct booking reference and, if possible, a copy of the correspondence you mention. This will allow us to investigate the matter properly and ensure that we are looking at the correct booking and journey.
We are always disappointed when an operational issue affects a customer's day out, particularly when they have travelled some distance to visit us, and we would be happy to look into this further once we have the correct details.

We all enjoyed our steam train…
We all enjoyed our steam train experience with the jacket spud! Collecting the food and drinks from the cafe was quick and easy and we all enjoyed our food. There was many chances to take photos and take in the smells and sounds of the steam train. Great value for Monday. Would highly recommend.

Poor and disabled not welcome
Paid for 6 tickets using Zilch, payment was taken from my account but no further confirmation. Rang them to be told the money I'd already paid 'will be refunded in a few days' but she was happy to take payment in full. This has forced us to give up on this trip, disappointing young children and autistic adults. Very discriminating policies, you can only use this if you're wealthy.

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the outcome and that this affected your plans.
To clarify, we do not accept Zilch Pay 3 as a payment method. The payment therefore did not complete successfully with us and no booking was confirmed or tickets were issued.
If funds have been taken from your account, these are being held by your bank/payment provider following the unsuccessful transaction. As explained to you, these funds should be released back to your account by them; unfortunately, this is not something we are able to control or process ourselves.
We appreciate that this was frustrating, particularly when travelling with children and autistic adults, but our payment options are applied consistently to all customers and the issue was with the unsupported Zilch payment method rather than any restriction based on the circumstances of your party.

What a fantastic day
What a fantastic day. Over 2.5 hours of pure joy as the steam train chugged up the hill. Amazing to be part of the experience. Got off on the return trip at Consall, had lunch in The Black Lion and watched as the train went by carrying its next lot of passengers. Walked back along the canal to the starting point. Recommend this to everyone, everything was perfect.
