Bought the hydro 2 vest. Fell apart after 4mins of running.

Bought the hydro 2 vest. Went on my first run with vest, within 4 mins the phone holder stitching came away from the phone clip. Thankfully phone didn’t fall out but this left me so frustrated and disappointed. Currently training for a half marathon so rubbish experience from the get go with this vest. From a brand new garment I did not expect this poor quality. Currently in the process of getting it sent to them so they can investigate. I have requested a brand new product and free delivery. If the replacement (assuming I get one) is the same unfortunately I won’t be buying from them again. I have read a number of reviews afterwards and this has happened a few times. I hope they can use much stronger fixing of the phone holder rather than some strings to keep it strong. It’s a garment used for movement so why it isn’t the case at the moment is very surprising. They’re design/manufacturing team need to do a better job. Let’s see what comes from from them for my returned product.

Upgraded a previous purchase to the latest version. I haven’t tried it yet, but the quality is excellent and delivery was very prompt. Looking forward to testing it out on a run.

Quality is poor

Quality is poor, used it once then washed it and some of the stitches came out and someone the red fell off.

Nice product. Early fault.

Nice product, but on only my second run the phone holder clip broke from the material. Clearly more resistance in the clip than in the stitching

Please note that we do not (and cannot) monitor individual international orders, as is standard with all online retailers. Your order is still within the courier’s international delivery timeframe, but we are investigating this with Evri as a priority, as explained on email this evening.

I love the freetrain vests

I love the freetrain vests, I have had a V1 for a long time. They are exceptional running vests that are actually comfortable. The website is really easy to use and order from and I was extremely lucky to get two of the V2 vests.

2x faulty running vests

2x faulty running vests, the first one the phone holder was stitched up and the second one the button for the phone holder didn’t work, sent them proof with pictures and video of the issues.
They asked me to return the items so I could get a refund, they then said they had never received the items back even though we had delivery note from evri to say that they have received. Terrible service!

We understand how frustrating it must have been to encounter issues with your items, and we’re sorry again that the original vest didn’t meet expectations. Upon reviewing your case, we can confirm that a replacement was sent as requested at the beginning of the year.

Unfortunately, the return was not processed correctly, as it was sent back without the required order details or following the provided return instructions. This made it extremely difficult for our team to identify and match the return to your original order or verify it coming back to us, despite this, we continued to investigate and monitor the situation in good faith.

To ensure a fair resolution, and even though the order was placed six months ago, we issued store credit for the full value of the product. We genuinely believe we’ve done our best to resolve the matter fairly and beyond our standard policy.

Mixed Experience – Great Fit but Quality Needs Work



I’ve had a mixed experience with Freetrain. The hybrid shorts are a standout – really good fit and I love wearing them. The t-shirts are also excellent, great quality and feel.

However, there are quite a few quality issues across other items. I had to return my running jacket because the pocket broke – only for the same thing to happen on the replacement. The vest bottle holder developed a hole after just four outings, and the zip regularly sticks. Logos on both the shorts and t-shirts started peeling off within weeks.

Another disappointment is that the shorts I originally bought for £35 (great fit, great colours) now cost £70 and come in dull, uninspiring colours.

Love the fit and feel of some of the gear, but for the price, the durability and quality control really need improvement.

Freetrain Hydro 2

Loving the new Freetrain Hydro 2. I actually use a handheld water bottle and put gels in the bottle pocket thereby eliminating my gel belt which is so tedious. Love it and the extra storage on the back if needed and 2 velcro containers on each shoulder for extra gels if needed.

Update: After using on second run, stiching came loose on magnet and phone was dangling only a half mile into a long run. Had to remove phone and stopped run and walked home disappointed in a product I was so excited about. Fortunately my iPhone 15 Pro Max did not fall out onto the road and bust. I had used expensive running carbohydrate supplements that went to waste. Totally disappointed in this poor quality. Maybe the snap should have remained from the original version. I see others are having the same issue.

Adverts are not clear on details of what is and is not included. Extremely vague and poor customer service. 2 garments that have zips have both failed. Pretty disappointed overall though some of the t-shirts I have got have been good

Edit: after reply-
You replied to say that it says that water bottles are for illustration and is said in the add. This was only added after my complaint prior to this review so don’t try and make out that I wasn’t reading the add when you edited it!!!

Quality issues

**UPDATE**
Upon first use the stitching has come away from the magnet that holds the material for the phone holder in place. Inconveniently I was hiking Ben Nevis when this happened so I had a 2½ hour hike down the mountain with my phone dangling off of me. Not best pleased with the longevity of this vest and hopefully it's just a bad batch on my one but I imagine there will be an issue with the build of this part of the vest.

Quality looks great, the upgrades against the original (which I still have) are definitely worthwhile and well thought out.

Deliver was fast and easy and communication was spot on.

The perfect way to carry your phone whilst running or hiking.

Recently purchased the Free train running vest V2 and Hydration Vest V2. This was a replacement for the original running vest, where the popper broke. That was a good few years old.
The new vests arrived on the day of release and look a good upgrade on the original. I wore it to Parkrun at the weekend and I would say I notice it attracted the heat.
They fit comfortably and are great for carrying large phones (Google Pixel 7 Pro) whilst running. I have noticed unlocking the phone via fingerprint recognition is more miss than hit.
The new magnetic clasp is a good upgrade. Overall, better than the originals and yes I would recommend.
