F&R mis-sells itself as a market platform where wine in a portfolio can be easily sold
I have a portfolio of wines worth over 20K GBP . My approach was to focus on Bordeaux en Primeur wines, buy double what was required for personal consumption and wait 3 or 4 years years and then sell half the allocation to fund a good quality of wine at a lower price due to profit on the bottles sold. The platform advertises itself as a trading platform, with market value prices associated with every case of wine. the platform states " With effortless listing, promotion to our extensive network and valuation advice, there's no easier way to sell wine and spirits in your collection" . This is far from the reality. Over a year ago I decided i wanted to sell at least 50% of my portfolio. IT has taken over 12 months to sell about 20% of my wine , even with a floor price that renders little or no profit after commission. I would like to sell my entire portfolio at as little a loss as possible and cut my losses but the platform is not a market platform and selling is based on best endeavours, who seem to have difficulty finding buyers. Meanwhile I am sitting on a portfolio of wines I can not sell whilst incurring significant storge fees as time goes by. Customer service are fine for delivery and purchase advice but act a s a filter /screen to anyone involved on the commercial selling side. It is impossible to talk to anyone from accounts to get a clear transaction based view of my account and on request to speak to someone I was told i could only talk to accounts via email.

While purchased en primeur, these wines tend to have broader market availability, where price appreciation is more modest and sell-through can take longer—particularly when aiming to minimise losses. This reflects current market dynamics rather than an inability to sell the wines.
More broadly, our marketplace handles over 40,000 transactions per year and typically sees around a 50% sell-through rate on listed stock within the first sales cycle, depending on segment and pricing. All listings are promoted across our international platforms and buyer network, though results ultimately depend on market conditions and positioning.
Our VP, Brand has already reached out personally, and we would welcome a conversation to review the portfolio in detail and map out the most efficient route to liquidation—whether through adjusted pricing, bulk offers, or targeted promotion across our regional channels. We also recognise the frustration of ongoing storage costs and are happy to explore options to help achieve a faster sale.
