Slashed Interest Rate from 3.75% to 1.02% Because They Can.

I transferred in a Cash ISA to Chip as they offered an account which tracked the BoE base rate, plus a promotional boost for 12 months. Chip have now slashed the interest rate from 3.75% down to 1.02% as they have 'simplified' their products. I can keep my promotional boost, but at 2.02% I am forced to switch to their 'Smart ISA'. I no longer trust Chip to honour their headline interest rates and will be transfering my ISA to a new provider at the earliest opportunity. Looking at other reviews, I will need to be mindful to do this at a time when Chip will not keep the unpaid interest.

Another disappointment another…

Another disappointment another descrease in intrest rates. Was 4.5% when I opened account. Which was the highestest rate sadly 3. 75% now. Will be looking for a better rate.

I’ve been with CHIP for a number of…

I’ve been with CHIP for a number of years and have always had great service however the new smart ISA is making it difficult to effectively manage my money.
I’ve withdrawn money and 24 hours later it still hasn’t been processed. This has meant I’ve had to use my current account overdraft. It wasn’t an issue with the previous CHIP ISA. Withdrawals were actioned instantly and I was reassured that if I needed to make a purchase / pay a bill, my money could be easily accessed.
I’ve been delaying the transferral of my ISA to another provider for a better interest rate but will now be moving my ISA elsewhere. Such a shame

I would not put a penny with these…

I would not put a penny with these people.They mess up your account and you can’t get in touch with them through any means. There is no phone number or email available. Any emails you do send are responded to in the same manner that they are too busy to get back to you.I am a man 78 years of age who handles £1,00000 of invested money.My partner is a retired Head Teacher with excellent IT skills, but we can’t crack this one. KEEP WELL AWAY !

I opened a cash ISA, requested a transfer in but supploed an incorrect Acc. No. The Chip agent was reallly helpful and quickly sorted my problem raising a new transfer in which was completed in a few days.

Query resolution

Awful

Awful, reduced my isa rate dramatically after switching to them. Used a referral code and that says unsuccessful despite putting in 40k over the past couple of months. I will be moving to somewhere else.

Closing an account

Closing an account is unnecessarily difficult.
You have to withdraw all monies (linking your bank account for another 90 days of snooping) , then you can send a request for the account to close.
You will lose any interest acquired and not paid, so make sure you withdraw all monies on your interest payment date. (A bit shady practice imo, enjoy my 90 pence)
An operator will then contact you and advise you can never have an account with them again, and to confirm you still want to close the account.
Make sure you reply to the operators messages in app and not by the operators emails or they will request personal information to confirm it's you? (Very odd)
After about an hour of unnecessary bull they will close the account.
Why it has to be like this I don't know, but it means I won't open another account with them, even if I was now allowed too. Lol

Some parts of the account closure process are in place to help protect your account and meet our regulatory obligations, including verifying requests and ensuring any remaining funds are withdrawn before closure. We appreciate that this can sometimes feel more complicated than expected.

Regarding unpaid interest, any interest is paid in line with the terms of the account, and we're sorry if this wasn't as clear as it should have been.

smart ISA takes longer than a day to transfer to bank

opened a smart ISA due to the interest rate. However was not informed that transfers to my bank take over a day, not sure what a day means as it does not specify, 24 hours, midnight, who knows. I needed this to buy a car and now I can't get it today because of the delay. I had no problems with my previous ISA transfer which were instant. the none existent customer service is appalling in this day and age, to take a day, again not sure what a day is, to get back to you in the chat, is appalling not a human to be found. I will be closing my account and moving back to premium bonds! Bad form Chip.

Poor Customer Service

When I was paying money into my Cash ISA, the customer service was exceptional, and the interest rate was very competitive. Withdrawing funds was incredibly easy. However, Chip has now dropped the interest rate on its Cash ISA as they want to encourage customers to move to the Smart Cash ISA. Consequently I want to move my investments away from Chip, but they are making it extremely difficult for me to transfer to another ISA provider. They have rejected 2 requested transfers but, despite letting the new provider the reason why, they didn't let me know. They now say their Customer Service is very busy and, although my query is being dealt with "urgently" I'm still waiting for a response from them. Very disappointing!!

Full marks for their support

Many businesses, especially technology based make it difficult or impossible to contact them and/or reply very slowly. Chip is straightforward and always replies within 24 hours

unreasonable request when asked to transfer ISA out

I was hoping to transfer my ISA out from Chip to a higher interest bank, Chip has made this very difficult. They insisted that I have to choose both the Previous year subscription and Current year subscription despite the fact that I have not subscribed any ISA with them this year. Now they have asked me to go back to HSBC and refill the form/resend it which will make me lose my incentive offer and backpay interest because it will be treated as a new application (plus with all the close branches closed I have to find time to go city centre to submit the form, they also just open till 4pm during working days and 1pm on Saturday which made it is even harder for mum with two kids to do). I tried to explain to them about the insane delay and inconvenience/ financial lose it will cause but just got the same reply. I wonder why Chip cannot accept me to transfer my previous year ISA out (the whole funds I have with them) but insisted that I have to also including Current year subscription which I did not even subscribe with them!

ISA transfers need to follow HMRC requirements, and in some cases transfer instructions need to specify both current and previous years' subscriptions, even where no current tax year subscriptions have been made. If the transfer request doesn't contain the required information, we're unable to process it until it's corrected.

We understand this has created extra work for you and that the timing may affect your offer with your new provider. We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.
