Disappointing and unprofessional
Disappointing and unprofessional
My experience with this firm has been very poor. Communication has been slow and unreliable, important documents have not been delivered as promised, and they have stopped responding to emails, leaving matters unresolved for weeks.
A solicitor should be dependable, transparent and accountable. Sadly, that has not been my experience here. I would not use them and would advise others to consider alternatives.
I hope someone senior at the firm reads this and takes it seriously.

Really impressed!!! Will definitely return.
My partner had used them previously and had a good experience, so we decided to use them too. To say they have been pretty amazing is a total understatement. We were not only purchasing but also selling at the same time, so it was stressful to say the least.
We had so many ups and downs during the process, with sales falling through multiple times. Purchases were also withdrawn due to issues raised after surveys. It went on for so long that we even had to reapply for the mortgage. But throughout it all, there was continuous communication, genuine kindness and professionalism, along with quick responses and a real determination to get the job done.
I would certainly use them again, and I want to make a special mention of our solicitor. I have dealt with so many over the years, and to say I have found many of them elusive, difficult to speak to, and slow is an understatement. But honestly, Kate Bell was just brilliant and the complete opposite. We won’t be using anyone else from now on.

No effort from their side to reach out, upon chasing nobody at the company answers the phone. Now having to pay additional money due to expiring surveys due to lack of communication.
While writing this review "someone" has gave an update that is entirely false showing nobody knows what is going on.

Hard to recommend
Two separate people dealing with the sale and purchase and there was no joined-up thinking.
The solicitor dealing with our sale eventually got on board and was good at communicating with us by email and phone.
The solicitor dealing with our purchase was inept and extremely poor at communicating. Never once did they answer a call or return any phone calls when we needed clarification.
For Generation X people who don’t always understand “Lawyer speak” we found this unacceptable but combine this with slow and unhelpful responses left us very frustrated

House purchase
From start to finish Kate has been brilliant.
Solicitors usually get a bad right up when moving house etc but not in this case.
Communication was brilliant and I always got an email on the same to any questions I may have had.

House purchase
I’ve had a really positive experience with Kate and the Gordon Brown team throughout my house purchase. They’ve been professional, helpful and responsive, and I’ve always felt everything was being handled properly.
The app was great at the start of the process, and could be utilised further to provide updates during quieter periods, showing the current stage and any outstanding actions, as this would reassure clients that progress is continuing behind the scenes.
Overall, I’ve been very happy with the service and would happily recommend Kate and the team. We’ve now exchanged and are looking forward to completing!

Would not recommend
This is an accurate account of our experience with Gordon Brown Law (GBL), who acted for our buyer.
GBL were instructed in June and were made aware from the outset that the developer wanted completion by the end of July. Despite this, we understand the buyer was told the process could take 12–19 weeks. The transaction was chain-free, yet it then appeared to sit waiting for reports for around seven weeks, with our solicitor and estate agents repeatedly struggling to get responses from GBL.
Our solicitor was ready to complete on 17 July, but the lack of progress continued. Eventually, the developer gave a final deadline of 2 October, stating that otherwise they would relist the property we were buying.
The transaction ultimately took approximately 15 weeks to complete, causing considerable stress and putting our purchase at genuine risk.
We appreciate that solicitors cannot control every part of a transaction, but in our experience there was a clear lack of urgency, communication and proactive progression, particularly given that the transaction was chain-free and the developer’s deadlines were known from the outset.
If GBL ask us to remove this review because they were acting for our buyer rather than us, we will decline. This review is about our experience of dealing with the firm and the impact their handling of the transaction had on our purchase.

We appreciate that property transactions can be stressful, particularly where developers impose completion deadlines. However, as Gordon Brown Law acted solely for the buyer, we are restricted by our professional obligations and cannot comment on all aspects of the transaction.
We would, however, note that your review states the buyer was advised that the transaction could take between 12 and 19 weeks. The matter completed in approximately 15 weeks, which was within that estimated timeframe.
In addition, the contract documentation was not received by this firm until 3 July, despite our instruction in June. Enquiries were raised on 15 July, and substantive replies were not received until early August. Following receipt of those replies, time was required to review the documentation, obtain and assess search results, address any outstanding issues, and provide our report to the client before exchange and completion could take place.
Taking these factors into account, we consider that the transaction progressed within the timescales that had been advised and within what would ordinarily be expected for a residential conveyancing matter. We therefore do not agree that the circumstances described support the suggestion of a lack of urgency or justify the characterisation of our service in this review.
Whilst we respect your right to express your views, we believe the review does not reflect the full picture of the transaction or the legal processes that were required to protect our client's interests. Nonetheless, we are sorry that you were left with a negative impression and wish you well in your new home.
Awful Experience
Echoing other 1-star reviews: this wasn’t my solicitor, but the seller’s. Thanks to a shared client portal, I could see my own conveyancer replying to everything straight away while the conveyancing assistant at Gordon Brown Law sat on correspondence for weeks at a time.
An exercise in frustration from beginning to end. Successfully turned a simple, chain-free first time buy into a 3 month ordeal that could very easily have been completed in half the time. Avoid.
Update following reply: No I will not be removing this review. Do a lousy job, expect a lousy review.

Whilst we appreciate that property purchases can be frustrating, particularly when timescales do not meet expectations, it is important to note that Gordon Brown Law acted for the seller and not for you directly. As a result, you may not have had visibility of all aspects of the transaction, the correspondence exchanged, or the reasons behind certain timescales.
Conveyancing transactions involve multiple parties and progress is often dependent on factors outside the control of any single firm. As you state the transaction completed in 3 months which is ahead of the national average. We therefore do not believe it is fair or accurate to attribute the overall duration of the matter solely to Gordon Brown Law.
As your review relates to a matter in which you were not our client and is based on your perception of events rather than direct experience of our service, we would respectfully ask that you reconsider and remove the review.

Had the pleasure of Aaliyah complete the sale of my mother’s house. I couldn’t ask for more and would highly recommend. Aaliyah was professional at all times nothing was ever a problem. First time seller
My estate agent pointed me in the direction of Gordon Brown to help assist with the sale of my first home. I was very lucky and had Kate Bell handling my case. We had a very short timeline to work with but Kate helped to push things along as quickly as she could. She was clear in all of her communication and never made me feel like any question was too silly. She went above my expectations and helped me understand the process as a first time seller. We couldn’t have asked for a better solicitor than Kate. She was brilliant throughout our house sale, always quick to respond, proactive, and completely on top of everything.
We ran into a few issues that were outside of anyone’s control, but we always felt confident that Kate was doing everything she could on our side to keep things moving. Her communication was excellent, and she was a huge reassurance during what can be a stressful process.
