Deceptive Offer Disguised as a Vacation…

Deceptive Offer Disguised as a Vacation Package

I purchased a discounted package from Hilton Grand Vacations believing it was a straightforward hotel stay. The mandatory sales presentation was not clearly disclosed at purchase, which is the only reason I agreed.

After my reservation was made, I was told attendance at a sales pitch was mandatory. When I explained I couldn’t attend due to work, Hilton canceled my reservation. When I asked for a refund, I was told it was non-refundable—even though the cancellation was initiated by them.

The only option offered was rebooking at a different hotel and time I did not need. This felt misleading and coercive. I would never have purchased this package had the full conditions been disclosed upfront. Consumers should be extremely cautious.

Avoid!!!

In short, it's totally a scam to me.

We purchased the property back in 2014. First of all, it's not a good investment method as they described, at all. With 20K payment of the property back in 2014 and 2K annual fee, the total cost is very high but the resale value is very low. A lot of people are trying to get of it for free, plus paying expensive fees to private agencies (Why private agencies? Please keep reading). It's a complete loss. If the same money is invested through other methods, the return will be much higher, or at least not a pure loss. And the 2K annual fee, letting alone the 20K property cost, will allow you to book good stays through other platforms.

Second of all, the booking experience is not pleasant. The open slots are very limited. If you don't book it far early, you won't be able to find a room. However, some properties are not allowed to be booked far early, and sometimes it's hard to plan ahead from 7~8 months ago. They do corporate with RCIs, but usually requires long min stays or the location is not good.

Third of all, the booking is not cheaper compared with booking from elsewhere. Taking Greatwolf as an example, the discounted price for one night I got in summer 2024 weekday was $119 for room only. I just quoted a price through HGV (min 2 nights) for same location, similar timeframe, weekday, similar room (maybe even smaller), they ask for 4728 points. A rough calculation is 2350 points per day. If I calculate solely based on the annual fee of 2K (not counting the 20K I spent at the beginning), even considering the inflation, I need to pay higher than the discounted price offered by Greatwolf.

Fourth, the resale experience is terrible terrible terrible!! We were promised, when we purchased the property, the resale will be flexible and easy through HGV. I submitted an inquiry back in July/2025, chased 4 times till now. No response. I contacted the resale group today through email, they ask me to wait for another 6 months. So in total 1year plus??!! They're also trying to push responsibilities to private agencies for resale and trying to fool the customer. And as I mentioned, those private agencies are very expensive. I can tell you that the price I quoted 3 years ago, was 5K. They can guarantee the exit, but you cannot get any money from selling the property. Some of the agencies allow you to post your property online, but don’t guarantee you can exit the timeshare successfully. A lot of people are selling the for a few cents in order to get out of the trap. What a loss!! And, think about it, if the timeshare is valuable, why HGV is so lagged about the resale and is trying to push it out? They’re not stupid.

Fifth, it's very suspicious that we cannot do public google reviews for HGV directly. People are leaving reviews (most of them are negative through other platform). Their CEO’s Linkedin is set as not viewable. It’s his choice though, maybe he doesn’t want to be contacted.

In general, my experience with them is terrible and their reputation is very suspicious to me. If you’re thinking about getting into it, please do more research! I'm not 100% how Hilton works with HGV now. Maybe Hilton has already get away from it from Legal perspective, and let them run as an independent affiliate, but I think the brand usage will hurt Hilton in the long run. If anyone from Hilton, especially those at senior level, sees this, please do something.

They do not value your patronage

I was talked into paying for a few nights in Vegas where I will have to listen to a pitch by Hilton Grand Vacations. Since then I have had the most draining conversations with their call centers, the representatives are clearly trained to push callers into making reservations even when customer not ready. I am sorry that the employees are forced into this position, but there is zero customer service. Don't get caught in the scam I that was caught in!!!

Complete scam - timeshare deception

I was sold a $200 all inclusive 3 night stay at a Hilton Hotel of my choice. Fully refundable. But it turned out that i would be forced to sit through a 2-4hour long timeshare presentation, i would have to be married and bring spouse, and it is actually NON refundable. They sell you this fake trip which is a total scam, and it is near impossible to cancel. Took my about 10 phone calls, hours waiting on the line, and finally got $180 back. Down $20 and about 10hours of my life for this scam. Don't fall for it!

Do not by an HGVC Timeshare

In 2003 I purchased an HGVC Membership. It use to be the most flexible timeshare in the market. It no longer is and in my opinion not worth the money I paid.

I have been told 4 different rules. I was told I had to wait until this year to convert my 2026 points to HHonors. I was told today I could also do that with the 2027 points for a upcoming trip I have. I am no longer able to do that and it has scramble my trip plans.

I highly reccomend you do not buy an HGVC Timeshare. I am going to sell mine this year.

Sales pitch sounds great, reality is trash

A sales rep at Great Wolf Lodge sold me a $200 trip to Miami, 4 days, 3 nights, plus a $200 credit after taking the trip. Sounds great, right? When I went to actually reserve the dates, I was told it was going to be another $200, and that I had essentially made a 'down payment' toward the trip. I was upset at being lied to, so I cancelled the trip. Later, I went back to try to book a trip with my sister, and after making the additional payment, was then told AFTER THE PAYMENT that I have to take my spouse, who is not available. Then I was told that despite the payment just going through, that it was non-refundable and non-transferable. I know that is "in the contract," but it has left me with a bitter taste for everything Hilton. It's a scummy way to sell a product which--after seeing the reviews--is not worth the trouble.

Don't do it

Don't do it. One of the worst decisions I've ever made. We bought a limited 10 year lease with 5,500 points every other year. We haven't been able to use a single point in a year because their website tells us no availability wherever we want to go. The only locations with availability seem to be Vegas, Florida and Hawaii. Don't want to go there. Now we have to pay $250 to carry over our unused points. CAN'T FIND ANYONE AT HILTON TO HELP US. We've been told by two employees that "they" shouldn't have sold us this package because it's not enough points to do anything and we should just buy more. No way will we ever buy more. This is the worst. Don't do it.

SCAM 100%

Signed up in May after a timeshare tour. Wasn’t able to pull the trigger on the large escrow purchase upfront. But we were planning on selling our house after vacation. So they agreed to give us an 18 month trial package with 10,000 points and at the end of that package, we could make the large escrow purchase to seal in permanently. We did pay a large down payment initially and paid the monthly maintenance costs until recently (Dec. ) in that timeframe. We have tried to use our points twice to stay at Hilton properties. Once in Kelowna BC in September and once in early December in Spokane, Washington mid week. On both occasions, it was 40,000 points per night! We had 10,000 points and were initially trying to be sold on their gold package which was 22,000 points! So even with the high-end package, we would never have been able to use those points for even one night in a non-exotic mid week location! I called them to ask if this was some kind of mistake but was told it was because it was during peak season. Since when is September peak season!? We paid over $2000 in the eight months we had the package. It would’ve been way cheaper to just have paid for a hotel room. Complete scam. The points are never enough for a room. Don’t believe what they tell you. They won’t return my calls. They won’t refund my money. There’s no explanation

HILTON GRAND VACATION IS A SCAM THAT KEEPS ON TAKING.

Hilton Grand Vacations properties are nice and the staff has always been great. We have been "owners" for years. That said the initial price is high, and after that the fees to do anything with the points that you "own" each year has gotten outrageous. We tried to "save" our unused points for the year. The fee to transfer or save them was more than the points are worth. DO NOT BUY HGV PROPERTIES. IT IS A SCAM THAT KEEPS ON TAKING EVERY YEAR.

Avoid

Avoid. I purchased a marketing package for The Historic Powhatan Resort in Williamsburg. When initially trying to make my reservation, they somehow booked me in another Hilton property near Busch Gardens. When I realized we would not be at the Powhatan Resort, I called back to reschedule. It was very difficult and took too much time on the phone, but I did finally reschedule to the resort for another small fee of about $15. After all of this we decided that we just didn't want to go there after all. I called to cancel and just let them keep the couple hundred dollars I already paid. After half an hour on the phone and an additional cancellation fee of $19.95, I was told that the booking and sales tour was cancelled. When I asked for the cancellation confirmation number, he could not give it to me and told me it would be emailed within 24-48 hours. I feel extremely nervous that they have my credit card information, and hope that no charges that I did not intend wind up on my card. I also hope I get an email confirming the confirmation. I very much wish I hadn't purchased this package. Ask yourself: is the "deal" they are offering actually much of a savings? I wish I had seen these reviews first. I ended up agreeing to talk to a sales agent about this special offer on a whim after making reservations for work in a very nice Hilton property we use all the time.

Total bait and switch

Total bait and switch. Even if you think it is only a couple of hours of discomfort for the heavily discounted stay that comes with the sales pitch, it’s not worth it. Promised agreed upon property. Arrived at property and reservation had been cancelled and rebooked at a far inferior property. $100 visa gift card was “cancelled” spent total of 3 hrs on the phone just trying to have somewhere to stay and collect what was promised. Hilton, HGV and 3rd party ticketing agency are not related which severely taints the Hilton brand. I wish I would have seen the 1.1 star rating before we agreed to this too good to be true hotel stay because it is. Sad part is that Hilton itself tries to make it right but has no connection to HGV or the people you actually talk to.

The "Sales" Vacation was a Great value, and Painless

I can't speak to the specifics of the membership program, but I can relate details of our "sales" vacation.

I bought the "sales" vacation on a whim, and was beginning to think I might have wasted my money. Originally opted for Palm Springs, but just never seemed to be able to block out the time. We decided to take a mini vacation over my Birthday, and this snapped into focus.

When I called to make my reservation, I had no problem transferring to Carlsbad in a beach front hotel. One minor ding, I asked for a specific room, and was told that they would include the request in the reservation. When we checked in, we were told that the upgrade to a King - Ocean View - with balcony would be $80.00 more per night... But it was my birthday :-)

The actual presentation was clear, concise, and with very little pressure. Rather than pressure, they just kept giving us more options and discounts.

As timeshare presentations go, it was painless. And we got the promised 35,000 Hilton Honors Points.

A few days after we got home, I booked another one for Las Vegas. This time I'm promised that they will refund $200 of the $245 that I paid, plus a voucher for an additional $200 valid at any Hilton property.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I could. Absolute scam and utter con artists. I was sold a
3 night package for $225 and stay in any Hilton in the worlD within 12months. No mention of presentations, timeshares etc. just sold as a discount night stay package. I have only learned of HGV following purchase and booking. I am from England and there is no way to contact them other than phone which is insanely expensive calling USA from England. I did call once and no one knew anything about it. There is no refunds, can’t transfer and can’t extend so even if I did want to use it I can’t as I have ran out of time. Expensive life lesson for me and hopefully a free lesson for you reading this.

Very disappointed with Hilton Grand…

Very disappointed with Hilton Grand Vacations. They sold me a vacation package but were never responsible afterward. I called five different times to book and every time they said there was no availability — even when I could see plenty of open dates online. When I tried changing the location, they wanted to charge me more. This company does not stand behind what they sell. I would not recommend their vacation packages

Scammers

Scammers, when I stated not interested they made me sign a form saying that I could leave, the form stated I did not respected terms ( not true) and got charged for it 150usd difference on my stay and revoked points. The manager stated that I shouldn’t sign anything I disagree with … lesson learned, but extremely unprofessional to be part of Hilton, and Hilton will not see me anymore. I will cancel membership.

Disappointing Experience with Hilton Grand Vacations Promotion

I recently booked a reservation in New Orleans and was offered 500 Hilton Honors points for listening to a Hilton Grand Vacations promotion. I spoke with a representative named Trevor.

While I listened to the presentation, I made it clear several times that I was not interested in any of the offers. Despite this, Trevor continued to push aggressively. When I reiterated my position one final time, he began cutting me off, and when I addressed it, he accused me of interrupting him. His behavior was both unprofessional and discourteous.

I simply wanted to hear the offers and receive the 500 points as promised, but his aggressive approach made the conversation so uncomfortable that I had to end the call. This is not the level of service I expect as a 30-year Hilton Honors member—and as a former Hilton Reservations Worldwide employee, I found the experience especially disappointing.

I also want to confirm whether I will still receive the 500 points, as I fulfilled my part of the offer before the call became untenable.

Total scam and waste of time. So frustrating.

Total scam and waste of time. My credit card was charged by HGV, but I have never received anything in the email as I was told by the salesperson. When I called HGV, no one could allocate my package after weeks of calling and transferred across different departments here and there, back and forth with no result. I would have to dispute my credit card charge and let them handle this sort of scam purchase.

HGV Kenmore club - Avoid, Avoid, Avoid

Our party booked a stay at the HGV Kenmore club. The accommodation is hit and miss as this is a time share resort. The images and reviews online are for the time share properties. If you book as a non member it is likely you will be allocated a cottage that is dirty, tired, and smells. The reception staff are rude, unhelpful and clueless. Avoid staying at this resort.
