We have just finished our second group training session with our reactive black lab Willow. We have gone from having to stand at the back of the group slightly away from the other dogs as Willow was so reactive and anxious, to being right up at the front, fully involved and Willow even demonstrating some of the training commands. Will is calm, patient and force free and we as owners and Willow have grown in confidence with Will's support and direction. We would recommend Will at Smart Dogs for all your training needs. Our rescue dog Moose has now enjoyed two four-week adult dog obedience sessions at York Dog Park (and has the certificates to show for it) - and it has honestly felt worth every penny. Will is clear, concise and somehow handles group sessions (with multiple dogs present) with total ease and professionalism. We are definitely going to book in for some 1:1 sessions as Moose has a few neuroses that we need to work through - but the difference in him after these group sessions has been unbelievable. Will uses various easily-remembered techniques as well as reinforcing his Golden Rules at the start of each lesson, which really help consolidate everything he teaches us. We can’t wait for the next group session and would recommend Will without hesitation.

Will was extremely helpful at advising us and helping us train our Doberman puppy Ronja in a 1:1 session. He gave us so many good tips and pointers to get her on the right track as well as a really great puppy courses we attended. We feel much more confident and Ronja is doing really well. Many thanks!

I have 2 chihuahuas: an 8 year old and a 1 year old.

I attended the classes to help generally train the 1 year old (a 'lock down' puppy). I wanted to work on her obedience/recall and interactions with people as she was very nervous and yappy around strangers. The classes and all the training tips to work on inbetween the weekly classes were really helpful and definitely worth the £65.

I then worked with Will for 1-1 sessions for the 8 year old. Overall the 8 year old is fantastic, however he is terribly reactive towards other dogs and this is something I have been unable to resolve on my own. After 2 sessions, we have seen an improvement which is quite astonishing really.

Unfortunately, the 2nd lot of classes were a bit of a nightmare due to Wills poor health. I have every sympathy for this, I appreciate we all have health issues sometimes, but I was disappointed in how this was handled. Cancelling 1 or 2 sessions is understandable, but after multiple sessions had been cancelled, then he really should have paid someone else to cover the classes or else offered his clients the opportunity to get a refund. What should have been 4 weeks, starting and finishing in September, stretched on into November. By this time weather deteriorated and the evenings were dark and it was just no longer enjoyable doing outdoor sessions.

We were feeling overwhelmed with our boisterous and toothy little Irish Terrier puppy Rocky. After 4 sessions of puppy training with Will at York Dog Park (and plenty of practice of his tips and tricks), and Rocky is making great progress! Another one to one session with Will and we're feeling much more confident and connecting with our Dog more. Will clearly knows how dogs tick and is great at explaining what you need to do and why. We'll be back to top up our pup's progress soon!

Will has helped us immensely with our boisterous black Labrador Mario (who is now 17 months old). Mario wasn't aggressive or nervous, he was however, incredibly excitable and although he was good at commands when there were no distractions his recall around other dogs was not good and he had started to bark at strangers when startled or defensive (especially men).

Will came to our home for a 1:1 training session, met Mario and listened to us and understood what we all needed immediately.

Chatting to Will gave us confidence and know how. Implementing his 'Golden Rules' and sticking to them has laid the ground work for an obedient Mario in all aspects of life in the home, on walks etc. Will also gave us so many other tips and taught us how to use a whistle to train Mario. This has improved his recall and we can trust him to return to us when out and about and around other dogs. I'm sure at some point we will ask Will for another 1:1 to see where we can further improve and ensure that Mario lives his best, most fun and safest life. I highly recommend his services! We have taken our rescue Trailhound, Holly, to two courses of training in York and she has become a totally different dog. The sessions are fantastic, fun , engaging, educational and small enough so that you get some personal help with each area of training. Will is fantastic. He is knowledgable, friendly and a confident trainer who knows his subject matter and so it totally credible. I can say this with confidence as Holly is now a wonderful and well behaved dog. Would strongly recommend

We had a lockdown puppy (black lab) and in our naivety thought we could do it alone as we were not able to access regular training sessions. After trying a few different trainers and places, Bear and I thankfully found Will; a friendly, force free, encouraging dog trainer, no matter what stage you are at. Bear is now an 18 month old, lively Labrador. Having attended the North Leeds group sessions, we have learned so much and Will has given us the confidence to re start our journey with training in a more confident place, understanding the very core beliefs about training a happy, disciplined and contented dog (and owner). We now hope to go further with some 1:1 sessions alongside group sessions too. Thank you Will!

I have brought my puppy Cairo to Will’s sessions from him being 3 months old, he’s nearly 8 months now and is so well behaved and is constantly getting complements on how well trained he is at such a young age and that’s thanks to Will! Me and Cairo have loved the north leeds sessions and have both benefitted so much! Thanks again Will

We have been to Wills group training sessions from Taco bring a puppy, we did 2 lots which were fantastic and really helped us train Taco moving forward. Plus us and Taco absolutely loved it!

Following Taco being neutered he showed signs of aggression being territorial and was really testing the boundaries at home and eith others, we reached out to Will for some advice and in a few hours he had replied with some fantastic advice and games and reminders of the 3 golden rules which we had admittidely had slipped out of the routine - here we are now 2 weeks later with our cute little obedient doggo who listens and let's us take toys/food off him with no snapping!

I can’t recommend Will @ Smart dogs enough. Without Wills help my dogs future looked bleak, many a so called trainer have advised my boy had no future. But when I came across Will his approach was different!! Will truly understands dogs and owners, he soon built up trust. My boy is (well was) fear reactive, he has a bite record and was being walked late at night or early morning when less likely to see other people or dogs. But with Wills help and guidance we now walk daily during the day. We have seen a significant different in my boys behaviour when out, my behaviour has changed to.

I can’t put into words how grateful I am, Wills support and guidance has changed our future for the better.

Please I urge you don’t look no further for a trainer! Stay away from wanna be trainers. You get what you pay for and with Will it’s a million percent!

Ps it’s never to late to learn, train, and practice!

Last Sunday we attended two Master classes, Focus training and loose lead walking with Will with our two 17 month old Miniature Labradoodles Toffee and Fudge. Today we went to a busy dog beach for the first time since training and what a difference!
No more worrying about Toffee running to other dogs and not coming back when called. They were both much more focused on us and their ball and when they did go to say hello to other dogs they came back easily when recalled. Having the knowledge of how to get to focus on us was amazing. Thank you Will for giving us the skills to build on and we look forward to a stress free Summer.

We have just finished our second 6 week course with our dogs Kobi and Nala! Excellent as always! Our dogs have learned so much from attending the courses. Feel sad that the last course has ended but look forward to the next ones! Kobi and Nala get so much from them. Always keen to learn more and love the socialisation side of it too! Thanks Will!

Met with Will today for a 1 to 1 assessment of my 3 yr old rescue. He gave me lots of good advice, and training tips to continue mine and Coopers journey together!

We have done two courses with Will. Both were great. We have quite a nervous and often reactive saluki/greyhound. The group sessions really helped with socialisation and confidence.

I have just completed my second course with smartDOGS and the change in my young, reactive WCS is remarkable. I used to really struggle to gain and keep his attention, making training really challenging. But gradually, over the two courses, he has come on leaps and bounds. I am so proud of him and so grateful for the help and support from Will and the Dog Park at Knapton. Thank you

We just finished a 6-week course with Will, with our border collie Charlie, and would definitely recommend the classes. He's a reactive dog and so I'd been worried about signing up to classes, but had a really helpful 1-to-1 beforehand which reassured us. The sessions have been great - walks have massively improved using the methods Will has taught us, and it was good to be able to let Charlie off the lead with other dogs in a controlled environment to socialise. We found the classes really friendly and supportive, even when he wasn't being a model pupil. Thank you!

Will Smart is an awesome dog trainer, my very exuberant German Shepherd puppy Falco was also suffering from anxiety. Will through his training classes, and a private session, Falco has stopped pulling and is getting more confident every day. Thanks Will

I booked Will for a 1-1 session to help me out with Luna, my Bulgarian rescue, she’s so loving and loyal with the family, but was struggling with strangers inside and outside. Will explained why Luna was behaving like this in a non judgmental, easy to understand way. Less than a week on, Luna and all the family have implemented some simple changes suggested by Will that are already meaning a happier dog and household. We are all looking forward to what’s next!

Just had our 2nd session with Will. He has been great with our 10 month old lab. He has given us lots of great tips and Cooper is already showing improvement. Will has a really good way of explaining things and shows great patience with both excitable dogs and super anxious owners (me) 🤣. We would highly recommend. Thanks Will 🐾
