My experience with Close Brothers Motor Finance has been extremely disappointing.

I am currently involved in a dispute regarding a vehicle financed through them which has been off the road since July 2025 due to serious issues. The matter is being pursued under my consumer rights and has resulted in two separate complaints now being considered by the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Despite the vehicle being unusable and the finance agreement being subject to an active dispute, Close Brothers have continued to report missed payment markers on my credit file. While the account is marked as disputed, the ongoing negative reporting still has a damaging effect on a customer’s credit profile.

From my perspective this feels less like a fair approach to dispute resolution and more like an attempt to apply pressure through credit reporting while the matter remains unresolved.

I have also identified discrepancies in information provided to Experian during the dispute process, where the matter was described as being “under investigation” despite a definitive complaint outcome already having been issued. This issue has now also been raised as part of the Ombudsman review.

I understand the motor finance industry is currently facing significant scrutiny and that lenders are dealing with many complaints. However, that should not excuse a lack of empathy or fairness when dealing with customers whose vehicles are unusable and whose cases are progressing through formal dispute channels.

At present I am awaiting the outcome of the Financial Ombudsman Service investigations, but based on my experience so far, the approach taken by Close Brothers Motor Finance has been extremely disappointing.

I had a very good experience purchasing my first car with car money, peter was very nice and so helpful. I recommend car money to anyone getting their first car because they make the process simple and to a level of understanding for anyone who doesn’t understand how it all works. Thank you so much!

I have been a loyal customer of Close Brothers for over five years for my home insurance without any issues. Last year, I decided to insure my let-to-buy property (my second home/second policy). I spoke to someone over the phone and was told my home was insured, and payments would be collected via direct debit.

A few months later, I noticed no payments had been deducted. When I called, I was informed there had been an internal issue with their payment team—they had not uploaded my payments. I initially let it go.

Recently, I discovered that my second home is not insured at all, as no policy is registered in my account. I raised a complaint on 3rd March (reference number: 2440930202032026), and as of 11th March, there has been no resolution. I have spent over 4–5 hours on the phone with them, with no outcome.

The lack of communication and poor customer service is extremely disappointing. I am now seriously considering canceling my existing insurance with them.

I have only been with them very recently but so far they seem helpful and courteous. I'm hoping this will last throughout my repayments with them. I'll give 5 stars if that's the case in a few years time! 👍

This is the 2nd time I’ve financed a commercial vehicle with this company, they have been brilliant in every way, even if there’s an issue they go up and beyond to get things sorted, every time I’ve had to call them, they were really nice and helpful, would definitely recommend to anyone and I’ll definitely be using them again for future purchases, brilliant service.

Once the loan has been set up, I had no further contact with ghost Brothers which in itself is a miracle when it came to the end they sent me an email thanking me and asking me to cancel my standing order in fact that it all worked is a credit to this company

Got told- yes no problem we can do that. Now its weve never done this nothing written down- calls after calls everytime threatening me with taking my car off me.

This is my second time of using close brothers . They are a very good company to use . I have had no problem with them at all. The call handlers are very polite and very helpful .

No problems with Close Bros.
Only a slight hiccup being charged £25 for changing my number plate .
