I decided to give customMade a chance with a very important project which was the engagement ring I’m planning to give to my future fiancé. I can say with confidence that I love my finished product! It’s everything I wanted! They were incredibly helpful and responsive with all questions I had. I highly recommend trusting them to deliver high quality products!

I cannot recommend CustomMade Jewelers highly enough. I came to them with an idea for a deeply personal custom signet ring for my son. Staff was patient, responsive, and willing to refine every detail until I was thrilled. The craftsmanship is stunning: crisp detail, clean engraving, and a solid, substantial weight that makes it feel like the heirloom it’s meant to be. A custom piece like this is a real investment, and CustomMade has earned every bit of my trust. I’m already planning two more pieces. I ultimately decided not to move forward with my custom gold ring because I was not comfortable with the level of pricing transparency during the process.

I want to be clear that my issue was not simply that CustomMade’s prices were high. I understand that a custom piece of jewelry costs more than the raw value of the gold because the price also includes design work, 3D modeling, casting, manufacturing, finishing, labor, overhead, and profit.

My concern was understanding how the quoted prices related to the actual amount of gold I would be receiving.

I was initially quoted approximately:

10K yellow gold: $3,000

14K yellow gold: $4,500

18K yellow gold: $6,600

Because the ring contained no gemstones, I asked for the estimated finished weight of the ring in each gold purity and for clarification on how the substantial price differences between the three options were calculated.

Initially, I was told that the exact weight could not be predicted because metal shrinks during casting and some material is lost during polishing and finishing. I understood that an exact finished weight could not be guaranteed, but I was asking for an estimated or target weight rather than an exact number.

After additional follow-up, I was eventually provided with the following estimated finished weight ranges:

10K: 13–19 grams

14K: 14–22 grams

18K: 17–26 grams

I was also told that the ring would be solid gold and that the dimensions would remain the same regardless of the gold purity selected.

I then continued asking how the price differences were calculated, particularly the additional $2,100 between the $4,500 14K option and the $6,600 18K option.

I was told that the difference was mainly the material cost because higher-karat gold contains a greater percentage of pure gold.

The final clarification that ultimately influenced my decision was that once the price is approved, that price remains fixed regardless of whether the finished ring lands at the low or high end of the estimated weight range.

In other words, for the 18K option, the quoted price could remain $6,600 whether the finished ring weighed approximately 17 grams or approximately 26 grams.

That was not a pricing structure I was comfortable accepting.

The difference between 17 grams and 26 grams is significant when dealing with solid 18K gold. Because the design of the ring ultimately determines its dimensions, thickness, volume, and therefore much of the amount of gold required, I personally wanted greater certainty about the amount of gold I would receive before committing thousands of dollars to the project.

I also found it frustrating that it took several rounds of very specific questions before I fully understood how the pricing worked.

To be fair, the project manager remained polite throughout the conversation and eventually answered the question about whether the price changes based on the finished weight. I am not accusing CustomMade of fraud or suggesting that the company is doing anything illegal.

My criticism is specifically about pricing transparency.

For a purchase that could cost $6,600 before taxes, I believe customers should be clearly informed early in the process that the quoted price is essentially a fixed custom-project price and is not adjusted based on the final amount of gold used within the estimated weight range.

Had that been explained clearly from the beginning, I would have been able to evaluate the offer much sooner.

I ultimately chose to walk away because I did not feel comfortable paying a fixed premium price while the potential finished weight of the 18K ring ranged from 17 to 26 grams.

I am sharing the details of my experience so that anyone considering a custom solid-gold piece through CustomMade can ask these questions before committing:

Ask for the estimated finished weight.

Ask whether the ring is solid or hollow.

Ask whether the dimensions remain the same between gold purities.

Ask whether the quoted price changes depending on the final finished weight.

And most importantly, make sure you understand exactly what the approved price represents before moving forward.

CustomMade may still be the right choice for someone who values the complete custom design service and is comfortable with a fixed project price. It simply was not the right pricing structure for me.

I’ll admit I was hesitant to use an online jeweler to make the piece I wanted, but after a bad experience with a local jeweler, we decided to give it a try. I had a ring made with a 2 carat Alexandrite weI had previously purchased along with a matching band. I wanted a ring to honor my and my husband’s 30th anniversary. It is a rather intricate design (that I designed myself) that has a lot of meaning to me and the team at Custommade.com turned it into reality perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The ring turned out beautifully (not sure how to post a pic unfortunately).

Communication was clear and frequent, and the process of sending in the stone I wanted mounted was super fast and simple. They kept me updated at every step and made sure I understood what was happening from beginning to end.

From beginning consultations, through ideatic iterations and final design approval, Custom Made has been superb. The quality of the finished signet ring is marvelous! This is my third such ring (from different companies)... but I keep losing or misplacing them. The Custom Made "pinky" signet ring captures and represents my Arms expertly on the ring table, while the miniature Crest on both shoulders further enhances the quality appearance and uniqueness. Plus, the ring fits perfectly! I can say, without hesitation, that Custom Made provides quality pieces at reasonable prices, and they also have the most beautiful presentation and storage cases---included in the pricing.

CustomMade went WAY above and beyond for me. I had a last minute change to my design and they took care of it no problem. Would highly recommend them to anyone that's on the fence.

I had in mind a very bespoke idea for a cygnet ring design based on the movie “Cromwell”. I found “Custom Made” just by googling and was pleased to see from the their website that they looked like they would be able to bring my idea to life. Still however, nothing could have prepared me for the quality of the creation when it was completed. It is absolutely stunning and I can’t stop looking at it. The staff I dealt with throughout the design process were always helpful, polite, and patient. I honestly couldn’t recommend the company enough, and would not hesitate to point anyone in the direction of “Custom Made” if they were looking for a bespoke jewellery design creation. In fact I was so pleased with the cygnet ring when it was created, that I more or less straight away commissioned an identical creation for my dad. If that isn’t a glowing endorsement then I don’t know what is. Superb service.
