Great composter and excellent service
Love my hotbin! It's been -2'c outside but my bin has been hitting 55'c and is absolutely chomping through my food waste, clippings and rabbit bedding. Looking forward to opening it up in another month or so 😁. Great product from hotbin composting and excellent service. Speedy delivery.

We are happy to hear that your HOTBIN arrived on time. The temperature will start to rise as soon as the HOTBIN is about half full and remember to use the internal thermometer as you may find the temperature is hotter inside than the reading on the lid thermometer.

Cap for hot bin liquid outlet
Delivery was reasonably quick and the product was what I needed but it was impossible to separate the cap and the adapter without tools and considerable force.

Disappointed
Delivery & Bin excellent but I am finding it very hard to get bin to correct temperature tried hot water bottle a few times to no good result disappointed with results but will keep trying

It can take some time for the heat to be generated in the HOTBIN and it needs to be at least half full to accomplish this. That said the HOTBIN will still be breaking down the waste at temperatures below 40°C.

I have had the Hotbin for 4 years
I have had the Hotbin for 4 years. Sadly the bin never composted food waste properly even after 5 months or more it was always smelly wet mushy food waste. When you lift the lid it is crawling with worms and wood lice and flies in the summer. Although it was placed in a sunny spot and I could see at times it got to 40C. I also have an issue with the polystyrene construction which is very flimsy. The bin has become misshaped and stretched so the hatch doesn’t make a good seal anymore. I really don’t think this is worth the price.

To achieve hot composting temperatures, it’s important to continue adding chopped waste, woodchip, and paper/card in the right proportions each week. From what you’ve described, the “mushy” food waste suggests the mix may be a little too wet. This is a common issue and can usually be resolved by adding extra paper or card to help absorb the excess moisture.
We also noticed that your order was placed through one of our retailers. Have you had the chance to contact them about your experience over the past few years?
Regarding the misshaping of your HOTBIN, this may indicate a fault. If you could kindly send some photos and details to our customer support team at help@hotbincomposting.com, we’ll be happy to investigate further and provide guidance on both the product and its operation.
