Do not use of using employee benefit gift cards
Would love to give one start but feel like it wouldn't be fully honest. I've been ordering from Sainsbury's for the past year. Originally I purchased six months anytime delivery pass, which I then renewed in April 2025 for 12 months mid-week pass. Everything was reasonably great. East Kilbride store seemed to be well stocked, rare substitutions, items in date (usually long shelf date), polite drivers. Honestly best supermarket in my area (for delivery at least). Few issues with gift cards (up until couple months ago) whereas if my order was lower in the end than the gift card used, I had to message them on Facebook to get the voucher for the difference. They fixed it at some point tho and I thought wonderful, life's so good. Nope. Not so fast. For the past year I've been ordering usually in the range of £100 per order (£80-120) and I use one of the gift cards from likes of Perkbox (employee benefit) to pay for it. I've had no issues in the past. Apparently now if I pay using gift card from my employer (which is meant to be for groceries) I can't use my delivery pass (obviously I pay for £100 order so that remaining amount to be put on card is pennies, since they require some payment on the card). So I spent £80 for delivery pass, I spent £100 for groceries and then I get to pay for the delivery on top. Really really disappointing. I totally get £40 min spend to qualify for the delivery, after discounts, promo codes, multi buys whatever. But how a person decides to pay for it in the end (credit card, PayPal , gift card) should not matter. So well done Sainsbury's, I'm gonna move my £400+ spend a month to somewhere where they value their customers and appreciate living crisis we are in and that employees would like to use the benefits they are lucky to get. I've cancelled my delivery pass renewal, no point having it if I have to pay for deliveries either way, wish I got another half a year one and not a full year thinking that it will remain great. Lesson learnt.
This is specifically for the declined…
This is specifically for the declined payment phone line.
Operators rude, unintelligible and unhelpful. No apology for wasting my time and overall a bad attitude. I would expect better from Sainsburys.
A sad decline
I go back time and again to find they still don't have the things I want. Empty shelves, things I used to buy there they just don't seem to do anymore,a preoccupation with matching aldi prices. Staff seem disillusioned, less of them and the remaining ones are stressed. About the only thing that seems efficient is the check out tills
Staff are mostly friendly and helpful

Food is expensive so i only shop there when i have nectar points to use to get money off my shopping. Im glad i can earn points doing surveys or i would shop there much less. I feel disappointed that their toilets are out of order most visits which is hard being disabled
Just swept under the carpet.
In May 2025 ,Vodafone merged with Three mobile operators. J Sainsbury originally used the mobile operator Three, providing the operating app for customers. Since the merger, any Sainsbury customer that is using a mobile provider, other than Vodafone or Three, cannot now access, the mobile app, in store. This includes all other smaller mobile providers who piggyback off the EE or O2 network.
Having notified Sainsbury’s on a few occasions, the Executive complaints team, have now contacted Sainsbury technical department, to look into the ongoing problem. We were notified, that it could take time to rectify, but having tried again on August 25th, there is still no progress, and I doubt Sainsbury will ever rectify it. Admittedly, you can use the hand held scanners instead. But not everyone is happy using them, and looking at the decreasing customers shopping in our local store, I believe this problem, is having a detrimental effect on customers, who prefer to use their own mobile phones.
So, why are customers with Vodafone / Three access, given preference, and can still use the mobile app? Surely, this mobile app access should be available to all mobile phone customers, like pre- merger with Vodafone.
It, looks very much like Sainsbury’s Technical department, has just swept the matter under the carpet.
Not good enough, Sainsbury’s.
Regards
Paul
I recently visited the Sainsbury's…
I recently visited the Sainsbury's store on Marske Lane with my daughter, who wished to purchase Aperol Spritz. Despite her being over the age of 25, she was asked for identification, which she did not have at the time. Consequently, I returned home to obtain her identification and subsequently returned to the store. However, the sale was still refused. I had previously remarked that the shop assistant may require glasses, and I believe this, coupled with my demeanor, contributed to the refusal of service. It is important to note that if my daughter were underage and seeking alcohol, I would not have accompanied her to the store.
Sainsburys at Penzance, downhill at pace!
Sainsburys at Penzance, Cornwall, has completely "messed up" the placing of items in the store recently.
It has moved the aisles of products around, so there is no longer any logic, or progression through the store.
Clothing has been placed with Toiletries, cosmetics, bath shower and dental.
Alcohol has moved to the centre of the store, where children more easily wander, rather than the var end of the store as it used to be, with freezer items.
Lower stock of ready meals, with a clear lower stock of Vegetarian at each theme of food, which is not in the Non meat section either.
I passed several people really annoyed, i overheard others saying "it was a mess", and i just got fed up with it.
This is not about change, it is about the order of foods being found related, and simply cannot be found. It lacks common sense, and having spoken to several others, they were simply annoyed and are buying less as they leave earlier.
I also found the bakery reduced in size, mainly lower quality white breads repeated, poor stock.
I also found individual baskets of pastries, that were open rather than packed, and flies on them!
there were several large bluebottle flies around the section. In other stores, people pick them up with their hands, or children and put them back.
I found no covers or utensils to pick them up!
So i would not be buying these items, and i would urge other customers to check very clearly before you do also! The hygiene levels have plummeted there.
Additionally, the trolleys outside and inside the store are dirty, full of rust, and i would certainly not be putting open food anywhere near any of these. If wet, the rust and dirt would even run onto contents like non packaged fruit and vegetables.
The store standards have dropped, cafe closed also, then it was cheap and badly stocked going downhill for a long time.
Prices are put up almost every week on items i may order for delivery, or when i go in, 10p on a fresh items that costs 60p, completely unwarranted.
Some products have doubled in price, and you can see they are left on the shelves with few people buying these falsely over-increased prices.
Shopping at higher end stores such as Waitrose, at least you have better quality, and pay more. These are base foods with no excuse for such rapid price increases, and famers and producers are getting just as low for their work.
I will be altering my store and shopping elsewhere, this store has gone seriously downhill.
Many have noticed.
Humiliating attitude from staff
Sainsbury's Plymouth refused access to the toilets to an elderly gentleman . Even though someone with a disability at that moment was using the toilet, security was called and he was left humiliated by his need to use a toilet. It is well known that older people often have continence problems, and a key should be available for these situations , not just for handicapped people. Common sense and understanding goes a long way. Shame on you. Will avoid Sainsbury's.
Sainsbury's complete nutrition dry dog…
Sainsbury's complete nutrition dry dog food has recently added wheat to its recipe without making it obvious. It has dropped 'wheat free recipe' in small type from the front of the bag but kept all other packaging EXACTLY the same so you think you are buying the same product for your dog with a wheat allergy that you have done for years. My dog became extremely ill. I would of appreciated more transparency. Very disappointed in a brand I used to trust.
I went collect my order from Kentish…
I went collect my order from Kentish town high street shop.assistants on the shop floor cannot help and only directed us to the queue on the checkout counter. The checkout staff was pleasant and quick.I gave 3 stars because the self service machine didn’t work and staffs at the shop floor wasn’t helping us.

Their Stoke distribution center is inefficient, rude, slow to unload and treats drivers appalling.

West Norwood London...poor customer…
West Norwood London...poor customer service. Rude staff. Yesterday accidentally ordered from them online to have Just Eat return order. Ridiculous for the poor delivery driver and myself!
On a previous incident, I had ordered from West Norwood Sainsbury’s. I had to drive down to store to collect my goods... ridiculous! A order was delivered to my home unlabelled with random items in it that was not ordered. When I arrived at the Sainsbury's my items were left on the floor vulnerable to theft and contamination. Then I had to deal with rude managers in store up to 4 men were involved in a heated discussion with a woman about where my items were...appalling!
I wrote to Sainsbury's directly and have had no feed back to date after this incident happened approximately 2-3 weeks ago.
Hence I am now leaving this review of the poor customer service I have had with Sainsbury's and Just Eat.
Generally quality choice and customer…
Generally quality choice and customer satisfaction has diminished over the years.,at Saintsbury's. Frequently the availability of favorite items is getting worse.
I bought some organic lamb leg steaks…
I bought some organic lamb leg steaks for our Easter meal, quite expensive. They were terrible, it was more like tough mutton I had to throw mine away as it was tasteless, I was under the impression that organic was good but not this it also didn't look good like some off cuts that were left over, not worth £6.00, I won't buy again.
Sainsbury Alperton click and collect…
Sainsbury Alperton click and collect are the worst click and collect service. They kept me waiting up to 20 mins not once but 3 times. I am leaving this review because it not acceptable. I arrived to click and collect today there was three vehicles waiting ahead of me and they’ve been waiting for quite some time. Sainsbury Alperton click and collect this is not acceptable. You will lose customers. We have choices.
Delivery service is dreadful.
Delivery service is dreadful.
We have had a delivery pass for many years with Sainsburys, but we won't be renewing.
The amount of issues we have had in the last 2 years have been horrific.
We had a delivery last week with a lot of substitutions that we did not want. We asked the driver to refund them. He was clearly in a rush and said he would.
5 days later, we are still waiting for the refund. My wife has spend about 3 hours trying to sort this out. Two phone calls and one email later and we are still no further forward. The people on the other end of the phone are hopeless and you cannot understand what they are saying. They give the impression that they just do not care.
They owe us over £20.
No wonder Sainsbury's is losing market share. We will be going back to Tesco's or Morrison's after this pass runs out.
They want to try and keep market share, this is not the way to do it. If Lidl or Aldi ever get into the home delivery market and you own shares in Sainsbury's - sell them, they'll be bust within 5 years.
