Seit der Entfernung der Community Kurse kann ich Memrise nicht mehr empfehlen. Das Verhalten von Memrise gegenüber den zahlenden Abonnenten kann ich ich nur als unseriös empfinden. Die guten Bewertungen in den App Stores beziehen sich größtenteils auf die alte App mit vollem Funktionsumfang, der mittlerweile zum Nachteil der Nutzer reduziert wurde.

The concept is great. The main lessons are great, but the rest just does not work. I feel like I am testing à program for them. AI repetition. Wrong language, crashes, bugs. Worse still I spend half my time correcting membots grammar mistakes. To begin with I found it fun, but paying for something that is not fit for purpose. No. Oh and god forbid you insult AI, you get put in the naughty corner…..so frustrating. It’s has such great potential but they need to fix all the issues before taking customers money.

J’ai commencé l’espagnol avec Babbel, une application que j’avais payée chère , mais je galérais : le système ne me convenait pas. Après avoir exposé mes difficultés à ChatGPT, il m’a conseillé Memrise. J’ai alors payé l’abonnement, et j’en suis ravi ! En seulement cinq semaines, je suis passé au niveau 13. Je connais plus de 500 mots et je maîtrise la conjugaison de tous les verbes utiles à l’indicatif présent.

Je m’entraîne aussi avec un outil d’intelligence artificielle que me propose Memrise, il donne des thèmes pour rédiger des dialogues. Bien sûr, je fais encore des fautes d’orthographe et de syntaxe, mais mes textes restent compréhensibles — un peu comme ce qui faisait le charme de Jane Birkin pour les plus anciens . Cependant, je regrette que l’IA se contente de corriger mes erreurs sans m’offrir un réel suivi de progression, aucun feed back!

Fort de cet apprentissage, je suis retourné sur Babbel et cette fois, j’ai cartonné ! L’avantage de Babbel, ce sont ses cours en ligne avec un professeur. Finalement, je trouve les deux applications très complémentaires. Certes, elles représentent un investissement, mais c’est un choix que j’assume pleinement. Buena suerte !

I am literally heartbroken - mems are gone :(
I used Memrise about 10 years ago to learn country capitals. It was such fun, and I succeeded in learning them all through the excellent pedagogical techniques Memrise used - mostly the mems; user created and in invaluable tool for memory using images and image descriptions. I've re-started now that my kids have flown the nest and I have more time. Have been so excited to start. Why are the mems gone? Can I get a copy of them?

Ich habe seit Februar 2020 Memrise für Japanisch und ich habe die App immer gerne genutzt. Sehr nützlich war die App, um vorallem am Anfang Hiragana und Katakana lesen zu lernen und später vorallem für den Wortschatz zu erweitern.
Man hatte eine klare Ordnung und ich wusste immer, wo ich welche Vokabeln zu finden hatte. Ich habe sogar die Proversion und immer gerne dafür bezahlt.
Seit dem Update hat sich wirklich einiges getan, aber für mich ist es leider ein einziges Chaos und mir ist die Lust leider vergangen. Die Video-Sequenzen, die KI Konversation sind wirklich ganz cool. Aber ich bin mir nicht sicher ob ich dafür noch Zahlen möchte. Wer neu einsteigt und nicht schon so einen Fortschritt hatte, wird die App mit Sicherheit gut finden.

Die Vokabelliste ist unendlich lang und anscheinend nicht mehr in Kapitel unterteilt. Für mich ist alles eine einzige sucherei...
Wurden Vokabeln in Kanji geschrieben und man wusste die Lesung nicht mehr, konnte man die Vokabeln auswählen und sie wurden in Hiragana und Romaji geschrieben. Leider geht das nun auch nicht mehr. Ich kann nicht mal schnell nachgucken, sonder muss gleich eine Übung dazu machen...
Ich Versuche es immer wieder mit der App, aber nach 5 min bin ich genervt und mach sie wieder aus. Denke das Geld werd ich mir in Zukunft lieber sparen 😕

I've bounced. I just wanted to delete progress, and start again. It used to be possible but with recent "upgrades" this is lost.

So since i wanted to start a language course from scratch my only alternative was to cancel, create a new account, pay again, maybe get a refund...

Just easier to switch to Duo Lingo.

A note to the Head of Product. Leaving out this ability was a huge mistake.

Another bot company, set in one only purpose. Making money.
No after sales services for technical errors.
The best way to learn a foreign language, like japanese, it is to get a Genki book.
This app was just aWaste of time, reflecting the waves of bot apps on the market

Auto renewal without notice. I have never used the app and have no knowledge how they obtained my credit card details

After posting this review on Trustpilot I Recieved an email from Memrise offering to refund my payment.

Habe mich für die "lebenslange" Version für Englisch entschieden. Diese ist ihr Geld leider nicht Wert. Es fängt zwar ganz vielversprechend an, und ich war motiviert bei der Sache. Mit der Zeit verlagerte sich der Schwerpunkt aber immer mehr aufs Schriftliche. Es wiederholen sich in immer kürzeren Abständen immer wieder die selben Situationen, zu denen man sich schriftlich äußern soll. Ab und zu werden kurze Videosequenzen auf Anfängerniveau eingeblendet. Habe mittlerweile jegliche Motivation verloren weiterzumachen.

I've been using Memrise for several years, and it was once an excellent language-learning app. However, recent changes have been disappointing.

The abrupt removal of community courses, without warning, made it difficult to find and access them again, and many of these courses have lost their app functionality well ahead of schedule.
The transition of community lessons to a new online platform has not been smooth, with the new site often failing to work as expected.

Additionally, the AI-driven learning features offer limited content and do not match the student's level, making them impractical for effective learning.

The shift towards a more gamified approach has made it harder to learn new vocabulary efficiently.

To top it off, my subscription was auto-renewed without prior notification, a process I don't even recall setting up.
Overall, the new interface and features represent a significant step backward in terms of educational quality.

After completing ther Pimsleur Icelandic course I wanted to keep learning. I stumbled upon the free version of Memrise & am thrilled with the presentation of their lessons in Icelandic. One of the best parts so far is learning to read it. I love the native speakers, the quizzes, the ability to review. I can't tell you how satisfied I am so far. Hoping it maintains this level of satisfaction. Then I may consider the subscription.

Memrise used to be amazing, just indispensable in my language learning journey- so much so I happily paid to be able to access community courses and support the app grow.

Unfortunately in the last couple of years the company started systematically dismantling everything that made Memrise stand out and shine in the midst of a plethora of generic language learning apps.

If they'd given me the option to download a separate app to use offline with downloaded community courses I would have happily paid $100+ or more, even maybe double or triple that just to be able to keep using the community courses- which have been so critical to my language study and will still be in the future.

I'll be looking at other avenues to try and find features that Memrise used to offer. It's really sad the people in charge of Memrise seem adamant to run it into the ground. I'm willing to bet the executives came from competitors to sabotage the Memrise by betraying the loyal, long-time, supporters and paying users. It really feels like the changes are meant to destroy the app. Sincerely, there are already so many alternatives that offer the new feature they're trying to force on us- and worse, the other apps are already using AI better.

I have nothing positive to say for the people responsible for taking an excellent, enjoyable, very intuitive, and wonderfully unique app and setting it all on fire, destroying communities of language learners in the process. Shame on them. Shame on them for lying about community courses and throwing a perfectly functional app in the trash for lack of creative thinking and complete disregard for the users that contributed countless hours to making quality content.

Auto renewed without notice
I had no notification of an annual renewal - I couldn't even remember setting it up let alone remember that it auto renewed!
I then found it really difficult to work out how to cancel auto-renewal so that it didn't do the same thing next year.
Auto renewals should be forced to send reminders!

Memrise is going to remove all community-made courses from their program. Unfortunately.
I had bought a life-time subscription for being able to use just these community-made courses offline.

When I explained my situation, they booked back the full amount of my life-time subscription fee I had bought last year.

That is a fair policy, for which I am grateful.

I've been using Memrise since May 2013 to learn Japanese and a few bits and pieces of other languages. It has been the foundation of my studies and was really useful in supporting other resources and really flexible in what you wanted to learn. I always really liked it, since I could use the community courses to learn the JLPT vocab or vocab that my textbooks used. It wasn't a one-stop shop to learn a language entirely, but it wan't intended to be and I felt like it was really good at what it did.

Unfortunately, I've now given up on using Memrise. With the Community Courses being moved to a new website and set to be deleted by the end of the year, I don't feel like there's any point me carrying on using something that's just going to disappear in a few months. I'd rather look at alternatives and start building a new routine. I've already downloaded Anki and have been playing around with it, though I've used it in the past and previously preferred Memrise to it.

I just wish I'd not bought the lifetime subscription for memrise a couple of years ago, I feel like I wasted my money.

Didn’t get the refund. Seems they are playing with me.
You buy lifetime a product and after one year they changed it and no refund granted. A shame

Memrise used to be the only language learning platform that suited my needs as a neurodivergent interested in learning around 5 languages.
Sadly new changes have consistently demonstrated:
1) poor understanding of their audience,
2) lack of regard for community content which holds years worth of free content donated to them by teachers and native speakers, and
3) by extension complete disregard for endangered languages.
The community courses were due to be removed with an indeterminate date. After much unrest in the community, they gave us a temporary page which will be removed at the end of the year, according to the CEO. It's notable that this fact is (once again) omitted when it's mentioned in the reviews below. This demonstrates the poor communication and transparency of this company.

This last year has cemented in many users minds that Memrise doesn't care about language, communication, the community, or inclusive learning styles that they used to cater to. Apparently they'll be removing the things we love to instead prsent us with tiktok videos and AI chatbots. Things we could source outside of the site if we wanted, while removing the things we can't get anywhere else and was given to them for free.
Strange choice but clearly the app isn't about language learning and community anymore, so perhaps I'm no longer the audience for this product. Extremely sad news.

so far it was a good app and i even had a paid membershi last year for 25euro/year.
now it came to an end and prices went up to 120euro/year ,that's a lot of inflation and if i read the other comments hear i can soon exspect a bad upgrade so this will probably become the same story i had with duolingo

I have been using memrise for some years now - it use to be a great app - Unfortunately now they have updated and moved the community learning lessons to a new online home - which from what i have seen so far does not work - and when i tried the AI learning trial - there was limited lessons - so nothing new for me to learn. Which considering I renewed January i feel very let down. Now the community courses have no sound.

I found the old learning software much better. It is more gamified now, but it takes more time to learn new vocabulary. The AI conversation exercises are nearly random. They have no connection whatsoever with the level of the student. I consider that part unusable and unpractical.
I am sorry I cannot be positive. The new learning interface is a serious step backwards from the pedagogical point of view.
