I keep receiving emails for many years…

I keep receiving emails for many years after unsubscribing at least 20 times & sending emails telling them to stop.
They are pests and leave me no choice but leave a bad review. Maybe now you’ll stop with constant emails??

Good concept; terrible execution

The idea of connecting expats is great, but my experience with this platform has been extremely disappointing.

I signed up based on a recommendation. Within minutes, I got a message from a young woman (not an admin) saying “hi.” Strangely, she isn’t listed in the app’s directory or on social media under that name, which seemed suspicious. I asked both global and local admins if this was common—no response.

Next, I signed up for a local lunch event. When I arrived, I found out the venue doesn’t even open for lunch.

After that, I couldn’t access the app/website. I tried resetting my password over 10 times—no reset email. I emailed admin 5 times—no response.

Out of frustration, I messaged one of the founders, Malte Zeeck, on LinkedIn. The next day, I got a response from Christian Hegemer, who explained they were having technical issues and invited me to rejoin. I tried 4 times, but each time my application was declined. I emailed admin another 5 times—still no response.

It’s now March 12, and my first email about these issues was on February 16—almost a month ago.

Besides that, the app’s messaging function is slow, and I can’t comment on the quality of events because the one I signed up for never happened.

Even if they are having technical issues, how can you trust them with payment details when they can’t fix this in a month and have zero customer service?

I completely understand and appreciate that they have some form of screening of members. I'm just a bit confused how I can be accepted as a member (and they take my payment details!), Christian tells me they were hacked, so I need to reset my account and then they decline my membership application. Something just doesn't add up.

AN ABSOLUTE SCAM!!

AN ABSOLUTE SCAM!!! DO NOT EVER USE THIS APP OR PAY THEIR MEMBERSHIP FEES!
My account got HACKED as soon as I paid the 6 months membership fee on their APP, and I sent at least 10 times of Password Reset request, 0 response from their website or customer service team. WTF I'm going to report this APP / Organisation to my bank for financial FRAUD asap!!

I would like to share my deeply…

I would like to share my deeply troubling experience with InterNations. During several events organized by this platform, I encountered inappropriate behaviors from certain participants, including harassment and unsolicited physical contact. These incidents have created an unhealthy and unsafe environment for members, particularly women.

Moreover, several of my friends have also been victims of such misconduct and have chosen to unsubscribe from the platform, disheartened by the lack of measures taken to ensure participants' safety. It is concerning that these behaviors appear to be tolerated, or even ignored, by the organizers.

I strongly advise against using InterNations for anyone seeking a safe and respectful network. The safety and well-being of members should be an absolute priority, which does not seem to be the case here.

Fake-Profile und Love-Scam

Ich war einige Wochen zahlendes Albatross-Mitglied bei Internations. Habe eine Silvester-Party besucht, die ganz nett war. So weit, so gut...
Aber:
Solange ich zahlendes Mitglied war, habe ich haufenweise Nachrichten von jungen, attraktiven Frauen bekommen, die angeblich in New York, Paris etc. arbeiten und "demnächst nach Zürich zum Skifahren wollen" und deshalb nette Kontakte suchen. Die Dialoge verlaufen immer gleich, nach kurzem Small Talk wird nach Telefonnummer/WhatsApp gefragt. Habe mir mal den Spass gemacht, die Profile zu recherchieren: Es handelt sich um offenbar gestohlene Profile von tatsächlich existierenden Personen. Beispiel: Foto und Arbeitsstelle passen zu einer Frau, die in New York arbeitet. Die Person auf Internations wohnt aber angeblich in Paris, arbeitet aber für die Firma in New York und gibt als Office-Standort natürlich das an, was auf Google findbar ist. Allerlei Lügengeschichten, sobald man nachforscht. Also Fazit: Love-Scam, Fake-Profile, um zahlende Mitglieder bei Laune zu halten. Das ist ein No-Go und mit den gestohlenen Profilen am Rande der Legalität.
Auch interessant: Sobald ich meine zahlende Mitgliedschaft beendet habe, habe ich nun seit Wochen keine einzige Nachricht mehr bekommen, haha. Alle offenen Dialoge endeten abrupt, keine neuen Anfragen oder Nachrichten. Ein Schelm, wer Böses dabei denkt?! :)
Fazit für mich: Tolle Community-Idee, sicherlich viele nette und authentische Mitglieder, tolle Events und eine lebendige Community. Aber man tut eben alles (und so dumm und offensichtlich gefaked), um die Mitglieder zum Zahlen zu bewegen. Schade und ärgerlich! Wenn das nicht so wäre, würde ich gerne sogar weiter einen Mitgliedsbeitrag zahlen (wenn der nicht allerdings auch mit knapp über 10 CHF pro Monat zu hoch wäre).

AVOID: NO Renewal Notice or Refunds

Ian responded patronizingly stating all the information is there and that I knew it all from the start. This is the opposite of a decent business run by ethical people. Internations goal is to deceive and extract payment without providing any meaningful service.
My experience is par for Internations since they give no notice of upcoming renewal and fee to be charged without any possibility of refunds.
This is a scum organization; no contact possible, hard to find where to cancel and zero refunds after no notice of upcoming renewal date. I have never been contacted by one person during my 3 year membership. AVOID this trash heap organization with fake occasional positive "reviews" obviously written by Internations staff under a fake name.

I signed up for a 30 day free trial and within 2 days my account was debited for a full year's subscription. Coupled with other predatory practices such as bots pretending to be members who wish to connect, I cannot strongly enough recommend others avoid this service.

Subscription fee taken even if you can't use it

I didn't expect to see so many negative reviews but mine is of a similar nature. Subscription payments are taken even if you have not been to even one event. They offered a free one-month taster which I accepted but never got a chance to use, so at the end of the free trial, without any update, a payment for the whole year was taken. I have contacted their customer support and kept getting automated replies saying that no refund is possible and I just need to start using it. SCAM company, avoid.

Violated by a bisexual Football book author

Lot of pervy and desperate men in London community. There was a Football Childrens Book author who r*ped me. He refused to wear protection. As a man in my 20s I felt vulnerable and scared. He was also bisexual hence more worried about the spread of ST*s among these men. London community is the worst.

Am awful company

Am awful company.
I joined as an Albatross member 1st November 2023, when I moved from UK to the USA. I got mostly spam invites and nonsense. I left USA on 8th October 2024 and returned home and closed my email account. They tried to take auto-renewal membership 1st November 2024 (but my Credit card had expired). They tracked down my work email address and harassed me for payment $106.00. I told them I had returned home and didn't need it. They continued to send emails, stating I had to pay before I could cancel, and each day I didn't the more it would cost me. I said no, I don't live in the USA. They refused to cancel my membership and threatened me with a debt collection agency and extra costs, in writing. After many emails, I decided to pay (bad move) to make them go away. I've asked for a refund and now they don't contact me. A horrible experience. This is a good idea but awful policies and processes. My strong recommendation DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THEM

Update on Internation's response:

I have contacted their Community Support team twice. They haven't responded.
When they believed I owed them money, they were very attentive.
Now that I want a refund as I am entitled, they don't respond.
I have had memberships in many organisations and rarely complain.
This organisation is not pro membership. It's methodology is reflected by it's overall rating here on Trustpilot. BEWARE.

Total scam

Total scam. You cannot get out of Albatross membership. They refuse to cancel, they do not send notifications of renewal and I wouldnt have known they are still charging me, but they tried to charge an old account. When I informed them I do not wish to renew the membership, they told me to pay the membership, then go to their webpages (which I cant enter anymore without paying the membership) and then cancel the membership. When asked in an email to cancel the memebership while I discuss my lawyer about the payment, they stopped answering. It is not a large sum, but I refuse to be scammed.

Membership request declined without any explanation

I liked to be part of this community, to contribute, etc. but the membership request was declined without any explanation. Is ok, I find something else, but it is also very unprofessional from my view.

BE WARNED: SCAM

BE WARNED. Payment done for Premium Subscription, but the upgrade was not done, moreover no feedback from Customer Support (several messages sent, no answer).

Reply by Internations to my previous review:
"Our Support Team is currently dealing with a high volume of requests, therefore, we apologize if you have not received a reply yet." AFTER 3 WEEKS, time to apologise, but no time to reply to support request? No comments are needed.

"InterNations is constantly growing and now helps over 3 million expats feel at home." HELPS HOW? TO GET THE MONEY FROM EXPATS, THEN TO VANISH?
