I have been working at Upton Bay for a few months now and can honestly say I love it here. The staff are enthusiastic, hard working and caring. The building is brand new and has all the latest kitchen equipment that any chef would need.The facilities for the residents are incredible including Spa Baths, Cinema and private dining area.Great place to work and stay.

Upton Bay Care Home is a real home from home for both residents and staff. Excellent training, support and outstanding care provided. Highly recommended

Absolutely amazing!! Fantastic team and outstanding care. Absolutely love my job as a carer and can honestly say this is the best choice ive ever made coming here, manager and deputy manager will do absolutely anything for you big or small, nothing is never hard work, their doors are always open, food is out of this world, lots of choices to pick daily from our menus, i could literally go on and on, carers continue to have a smile on their faces daily. Very happy here at upton Bay and you will guarantee love it too!! Please ring and book anytime for a look around you won't be disappointed.

Castle keep is to be avoided If I could give 0 stars I most certainly would it is not deserving for 1. Well what can I say avoid this company, first of all the administrator daisy does not have one bit of passion neither are they approachable but they are the first person everyone comes into contact with manners certainly don't cost anything, maybe barchester has to research a bit on respect, as for management you are undervalued and not respected qualified nurses are treated with zero respect often making them feel very belittled who are barchester to make this decision when they are qualified members of society. Another issue forcing staff members to withdraw from their own human rights by forcing the covid vaccination on them or they face disciplinary action its appalling they may need to question why so many staff members are leaving this company, one of the values of barchester is respect but it really has to be recognised before it can be seen as a value. If you want to feel valued its not the company for you.

As well as telling staff they can't work there if they don't have the Covid vaccine, Barchester are now saying no jab, no visits to your loved ones (unless youre happy doing a prison visit behind a screen). Oh well, what's another 4 months, when they've already been denied proper contact for a year. Wonder how many more people die in a Barchester care home during that time because they've given up the will to live. If you're looking for a care home, please avoid Barchester like the plague. There's only one thing they care about and that's themselves and how much money they can make.

Discriminatory to their staff

Poor, unprofessional management with bullying/abusive attitude. Obviously this is not generalised. Company cares about their profits despite what their spokesman says in the media “ care for residents and staff”. As posh as their homes look,there is not enough food for residents, let alone the staff on duty and this is one of many other internal issues.
Regarding the covid vaccination they are threatening the staff of loosing their job if they don’t vaccinate or cut the insignificant bonuses.

Friston House Care Home, Rochester, Kent

This home is the most disgraceful, overlooked and severely being missed due to failings.

This home is severely being missed and overlooked by CQC and the home manager as well as the CEO of the company!

They are very short staffed on every shift and the staff that they do have are treating the residents appallingly! If there was a fire, how many residents could the home get out? Before the fire took hold.

The residents have no say in what happens there in regards to the GP Visits. The GP and the nurse that is in the care home. Go into an office and discuss what patients need. Without consulting them or their families.

The staff are always lazy at times it seems, especially they are standing around talking in the hallway. About their times off and the buzzers have been going off in the rooms.

There is staff members that shout at residents and make them scared of speaking up for stuff that they want. A lot of the staff don’t give the residents their buzzers. If they need to call for help etc. Also if someone needs a bit of help by repositioning them, so that they can eat their meals. The staff raise the residents heads up. Then that staff member leaves them, that way and expects them to eat the food.

A lot of the staff that work in the home. Need to learn a lot more about pressure relief and disability aids that aid the relief of sores. A lot of the staff members say that there is no such thing as pressure relief or pressure relief cushions etc.

The activities staff are completely useless and rude. They said to my family member. About us taking him out for the day, what type of staff are you employing. When we are in another major lockdown abe we are in the midst of the winter season. Also there is a new variation of the Covid virus making the rounds.

There levels of staffing is bad. As there is no consistency with staff, as the turnover is of a very high percentage every month! A lot of the staff that come in, give them a few days or months and they are gone. As the staff that’s been there the longest will try and bully the new ones out.

An appalling home that is purely in it to make as much money as possible with no consideration for its residents or employees! Management and some senior staff are rude and have an appalling sick rate!

Covid has definitely not been handled well at all and residents are definitely suffering! Such a shame that no one is listening and acting upon it!

If only we could get our family member. Out of that home and back into the community that is a lot nearer.

This is a company that supports adults with disabilities and complex needs .
This company is so badly managed it’s shocking and so many lies have been told .
Lots of safeguards raised about many different things . Two of these involving police
The lad I am appointee for had to be moved to another care company.
Communication very very poor from the management even with all the issues raised.
I would definitely not recommend this company to support anyone with complex needs . Having two disabled sons of my own this is scary that this company is still looking after vulnerable adults.

Westergate House in Fontwell West Sussex used to be a great place to work until the company became profit before anything else. The food went to the cheapest meat they could buy sometimes it was so tough the residents couldn't eat it ,they were served crumpets which had spread on already but they didn't toast them. People with allergies were not given the right food 1 person had omelette for 4 days running as they couldn't eat the dinner. They used to get free from biscuits, cakes ect but that stopped as there wasn't the money to buy them the budget was 55p per resident per day. The menu they show to show to possible residents they promise to lots of things that won't happen as they don't have the staff. Staff were cut back in the kitchen , housekeeping, care staff and activities. There is only one person on day and night which is dangerous. The residents sit watching tv all day. Sometimes they can't have a wash as boiler isn't working. They spend a lot of money on the surface so it looks good but underneath it needs a lot of work. One residents room had rotten floorboards and skirting board you could see daylight.

The staff are catching Covid at work but they are NOT getting sick pay which is wrong as they caught it at work. They caught Covid because of the poor infection control in the home. Pete Calavely has just given himself a bonus so his wages are £2.2 million a year while a care assistant gets £8.82 an hour that says it all . The manager thinks he's running a 5* hotel not a care home as residents are not allowed to have any magazines near them or flowers they all have to go into their rooms . CQC turn a blind eye as to what happens in the home they get told a pack of lies which they believe !! Or perhaps they are getting a back hander for giving Barchester Health Care homes a good report !! Nothing will happen until there is an accident then things might change.

My huge gratitude to Trinity Manor at Sherborne. They have been brilliant whilst helping my sister and I find a place for my mum who has found being unwell and isolated during this covid19 pandemic hard to cope with. Their General Manager, Sue - has been a huge support to us during the assessment of Mum at her own home, and her admission several weeks ago. All who we have been in touch with at the care home have been kind and professional during these difficult times to ensure that we are comfortable that Mum is in a safe and caring environment. Thank you to all, especially as I haven't been able to meet any of you - and am looking forward to being able to do so soon; as soon as restrictions are lifted which are only there to protect Mum, all the staff and other residents.

My father lived at Bedewell grange for 9 years. As a retired nurse, I cannot speak highly enough of the care he received and the wonderful home he was very lucky to get a place in.
