Horrible platform. Lots of issues with billing and actually accessing publications. Can't see anything to actually cancel it. Support is AI, no actual human help, and sends you to the publication author. No response there either.
I've genuinely spent 3 weeks trying to get this resolved. Time to just dispute it with the credit card company if no one will help. Maybe if enough people do that, they will figure it out.

Couldn't have asked for better service.

It is as if Substack makes it difficult on purpose to move your text to another platform or to even just save it to a doc file. For one, I can not export my notes, I can try to export via saving the html of my "notes" page but then all the text hidden behind the "see more" button is left behind. I tried to work around this issue by using Tampermonkey and CSS scrips and alas I could not. This platform looks nice, that is why I was drawn to it in the first place, the UI is cool. BUT I WANT TO EXPORT MY DATA EASILY and that includes my fricking notes!

I was able to finally get around this issue with the help of GPT. This is how you are able to claim all your notes: YOU press f12 and RUN this script in "console" : (() => {

Then you can scroll down to the bottom of the "notes" page with all the text hidden behind "see more" expanded. Subsequently, you press ctrl p or whatever it is to open print dialogue and then you save it as PDF, then you can convert it to doc.

So I pay a lifetime subscription, and the account gets blocked for violating policies, so of course, no service whatsoever! I get a refund after dealing with their tedious bot, and get an email from a human agent, who helps me and issues the refund. Two days later after receiving the refund, they charge me again! How?! If I stated that there's no service and that the profile was a fraud. Now I can't get in touch with a human agent again due to their nonworking bot. Never ever use Substack.

I have faced a bunch of false accusations claiming I was using an AI bot to comment.

It's honestly the worst social media platform I've ever dealt with.

I set up a Substack account called @jolowephotography I wrote three articles on the recovery of Melanoma Cancer. I was beginning to get the confidence to get subscribers. Someone blocked me. I can see my profile. I can read my articles. But I can’t move forward with my Substack. I am not impressed. The time and effort required to write well was not worth it.

Just saw a clip of Jim Acosta interviewing an Ai creation of a dead young man from 2018. Obviously, it was manipulated to promote Lefty views. It is horrible, because no one can follow-up with questions of the dead young man. Substack should block Acosta who constantly accosts us. Duh!

Set up my account, and wrote a substack post. Its a page designed to help people save money through codes and earn cashback called The Code Queen, but it got suspended (probably through their AI robot) for spam and phishing. I've appealed, but heard nothing yet. How awful that they treat people with such disdain. They would not exist without writers.

I am being harassed and spammed with unauthorized newsletters from an N-TV editor ( Verena Maria Dittrich ). After contacting N-TV, she registered my email address for her newsletter on Substack for her personal blog ( verenamariadittrich.substack.com ) with criminal intent!

Substack has already been informed, but has shown no reaction to this criminal behavior by its bloggers!

Nightmare company. We moved our business newsletter subscription service to Substack after hearing about it. Unfortunately, none of our paid or free subscribers were receiving our welcome emails (with their promised lead magnets). When we finally managed to get to an actual customer service human, they admitted the problem was on their end, and their engineers would have to look at it. It's been weeks, and they're still saying they can't give us a timeline and to be patient. Um...patient? For weeks? We pay for ads to drive traffic to our newsletter - meaning weeks of ad money has been wasted because none of those new subscribers can get access. Sorry, but Substack customer service is a trainwreck. And for the amount of cash they make off each paid subscription, you'd think they'd be able to hire a few more tech "engineers."

Unable to sign into my account because an Authenticator code is now required. Contacted Substack yesterday for help - got replies from what appeared to be a bot that went round and round getting me nowhere. Asked to speak to a representative and was then prompted to provide my email address. Still waiting for help via email.

Bait & switch is insulting. Read part of article & pay to finish? Come on. Cheesy. Not credible.

The Substack platform provides very good content and is advertisement free.
There are many very good content makers and a very good selection of people to subscribe and follow.
You can sign up as a free subscriber and follow those who make comments on related topics.
I signed up as a free subscriber and became active in engaging with others making comments but never created an account or posted content to the platform. I simply surfed the platform and added my comments to issues posted by content providers.
I enjoyed the interaction with followers and content providers and learned an immense amount from experts in many subjects.
However, this comes at a huge cost if you use phone data. From February this year to now Substact has chewed up all my accumulated data of 2000GB. The same activity before joining Substact would have used around 10GB - 15GB maximum if I surfed YouTube everyday. To give you an idea of how much data Substack will use, today it used 500mb just by scrolling through content, making six likes and restacting them. I used no other app, viewed no video or read any articles.
I can watch 90 minutes of YouTube and use 100mbs. Watch 3 minute video on Substact and you will use 500mb.
The other problem is that Substact also collects a huge amount of data for content providers.
Another issue is that subscribers cannot become paid subscribers to support all those they follow.
My other concerns are that the founder of Substact is a Heritage Foundation Billionaire a supporter of Project 2025 and Trump may take control of this platform as it becomes very popular for independent content makers particularly with those who have been forced to resign from major news networks he has attacked.

Paid for a month subscription to a writer. Substack still didn’t allow me to read the articles produced by the writer. Told by Substack’s Bot to send details of name, email address, bank card last four digits but it doesn’t offer a support email and the “Live” chat never put me in touch with an actual human. Dreadful organisation and some of the better known writers would be better off holding back because the appalling service reflects badly on them especially as they punt its services! In the end my bank got my money back and I deleted my account. Don’t even be tempted!

Unfortunately, my account was suddenly suspended without any warning or clear explanation. I reviewed the content guidelines and didn’t find any violations. I also contacted support but received no meaningful response. This lack of transparency and poor customer service is disappointing. I hope they improve their communication and treat users more fairly in the future.

I tried to subscribe to an author I follow on Substack. I started putting in payment details on the Substack website as indicated. After my postcode, it cut out. I got no communication re bank approval or completion of transaction. It was impossible for me to contact Substack to clarify. Motivated by a Reddit user who reported same problem, I cancelled my bank card to prevent fraudulent use of details I had entered. Extreme inconvenience, including having to cancel a travel ticket I can no longer collect without my card. Bad marks Substack for this unclear admin and absence of customer support. Updating review two days later: from bad to worse. Although I didn't finish putting in my details for the transaction via Substack app, and got no confirmation from them or sign that my bank authorised it, the payment to Substack went through. Also meanwhile, the bona fide author I follow was suspended from Substack, reported as "spam" (now reinstated after a complaint). I wanted to stop my payment but my bank said this was not possible. I would prefer to have nothing further to do with Substack.
