Staff in store five stars, sandals looked cheap

Gave four stars because the member of staff at the Bolton store on 14/5/25 was very helpful even though she was busy, wish I had noted her name. They have a large range of shoes, but the sandals I looked at just looked very cheap. Can get similar from other high street retailers that look better quality. The elastic attaching the buckle made them look poorly made. Sizing was out too, my usual size was too big, no half size and a size smaller was the right length but not quite wide enough. I decided to spend a bit more for better quality at another shoe retailer, I expect they will wear well so will be worth a bit more.

Shocking attitude Trafford Centre store

Shocking attitude from member of staff at 1st floor ladies changing rooms, Trafford Centre store. She gave me and the woman in front of me a card with the number of items and said won't be long. The woman in front of me gave up, at which time the member of staff rolled her eyes at another member of staff. A second changing cubicle came free and I said 'there's one free'. A different member of staff said she had to take a bra fitting customer into the cubicle (even though she arrived after we joined the queue). She said the cubicles were in use for bra fittings which take priority and is why the wait is so long. I said it would have been helpful if someone had told us that, we could have been there ages wondering why people kept going in before us. I too gave up. Maybe the member of staff missed the customer service training day, or needs to attend a refresher. Not what you expect in M&S.

Good, competitive price and fast dispatch

Competitive price and fast dispatch. No issues with Nevis Sport. The only issue was DHL, which I had to knock a star off for as I made sure someone was in on the day they said the parcel would be delivered. Their tracking was useless. The item was not delivered the day they initially said it would be. I then got a message on the Saturday saying it would be delivered the next working day. I wondered whether that meant Saturday or Monday. I did then get another message saying it would be Saturday and giving a time slot. No point having tracking if it doesn’t work as it should.

Disappointing

Sizing on majority of items ordered recently was disappointing. Despite ordering usual size clothing and boots either too small or too big. Then it seems I have been punished for the sizing discrepancies by losing my usual invite to the VIP sale. Not good, need to sort the sizing out.
The click and collect service is good, but obviously if items don't fit customers are not going to keep them.

online stock checker poor

The online stock checker is poor, if it doesn’t do the job don’t give that option. I travelled to store as their website said they had stock, but they didn’t. Staff were a bit clueless too when I asked in case I just couldn’t locate the item. Pretty much a shrug of the shoulders.

Returns process at click & collect point needs improving

Locate stock option seems to be accurate, but the returns option and the click and collect point needs to be improved. They have put a system in similar to Next but nowhere near as good. At M&S you don’t get a printed receipt to prove you have returned the item. You have to wait for a member of staff to take the return out of the box and process it before you get an email confirmation. The Next system is much better where a receipt is printed as proof of return.

Lovely urn

Spent quite some time looking for the right urn before finding a lovely wooden urn with tree of life engraving. A reasonable £10 for a personalised engraving, which was very well done. Urn is lovely and different than other quite basic looking options I saw. A bag was also provided to ensure the ashes as secure inside the urn. Good communication and quick delivery.

Excellent

Bought Hunter boots, good price in sale, delivered within 48 hours. Only issue was a box popped up for 10% discount, but code didn’t arrive in emails. However, 5% discount code did work even on sale items, so would not mark down for this as otherwise excellent.

Disgraceful behaviour from staff

Disgraceful, I won't deal with them again. I wouldn’t want the lad I spoke to in my home as he was so disrespectful, immature and unprofessional. Bearing in mind they probably deal with very vulnerable people that is a concern. I rang to donate some furniture in the Greater Manchester area, was asked to send some photos on Whats App, which I did. They replied with a collection slot between 12 & 2, I replied saying 12 was OK, but I needed to leave the property by 12.45. Or, they could come the following day. No reply. I rang to see if they were coming the following day, the phone was answered by a lad who was clearly having a laugh with the other staff (no issue with that as long as they deal with the call). He muttered Emmaus, when I explained about the collection he said it's probably on tomorrow's van, we're done for today. Before I could ask how I could check that he hung up. I rang back, again he was having a good laugh with the other staff, maybe about hanging up on me! He hung up again. I rang back again, no answer. I rang the Swinton shop to log my complaint, I was initially told to message my complaint to What’s App number I had just rang, I pointed out that the lad I had just spoken to would pick the message up, which was not adequate, it needed to go to someone more senior. The guy then took my details and said he would escalate to Jackie Smith. Let's hope Jackie does, I haven’t had a response yet. I will try the Mustard Tree, rather than let the furniture go to waste. Shocking.

Cave bed not suitable but good quality

Good quality beds, but unfortunately even the large cave bed is not suitable for our medium size gsp. The base is big enough, but the hood is low so he would need to crawl into the bed, which he isn’t going to do. Probably OK for small dogs who would be able to walk into the bed. Kept the bed as posting back would have been a hassle and it is good quality with plenty of filling in the base, but have just half zipped the hood without the foam/wire in it and arranged the hood as a raised side around part of the bed. Wouldn’t order the cave bed again as could get a good quality bed with sides for less. Like the tartan fabric.

Thak you for your honest review, we do overfill our beds more than most companies do as in time the fibre settles down, we have a zip on the inner cotton cover so you can remove the fibre so the base is lower and the opening is bigger, then at a later date when the fibre has settled you can add the fibre back in the base, the size should be fine for a medium sized GSP, Hope this helps thanks jules

AVOID non existent customer service

AVOID, I won't order from them again. When I received my order it was faulty. You have to contact customer services to return a faulty order. There is no telephone number only an email address. I have emailed them twice and am still awaiting a reply.

Quicker click and collect process would be useful

It would be good if like Schuh customers could ask any member of staff to get a click and collect parcel, rather than having to queue with people paying for goods. There were a few staff stood around but I joined the queue. It was probably obvious I was there for click and collect as I wasn't holding any goods to pay for. When I got to the front of the queue I was told 'click and collect is at the other store'. When I got to the other store I had to queue again. As that store is massive signage showing click and collect is at the main service desk would be useful. Another customer in the queue said she thought it used to be on the first floor. When I did get to the front of the right queue the member of staff was very efficient, friendly and helpful.

Need to give paper receipts for returns

Good delivery timescale to store. However, when I returned both items to the Bolton store the member of staff was unsure how to do the return. Another member of staff showed her and I asked for a paper receipt. Apparently they don't give paper receipts. When I got the email confirmation only one item had been refunded. I rang customer services and they processed the refund for the other item.

Happy with items and service

Easy to find suitable item and order. Chose to collect as was delivery charge very high. Quick easy collection process, loaded into car by staff member. Handles were given in separate package. When unpacked we found one handle was missing. Rang customer service and they arranged free delivery of the missing handle as we are not local to the collection point, so was not convenient to make a second trip. All sorted in one phone call.

Staff need training

Rang from registered number to close an account with no money in it. Encountered a 'computer says no' response. She said there were no security questions she could ask. I suggested there were a number including postcode. She said we decide the questions not you. I am aware of that, but was pointing out that there were security questions that could be asked. She said I would have to call in my local branch, I pointed out that had been closed, or write in, she would have to go away and find the address to write to. I rang back on complaints line as it seemed ridiculous. That member of staff put me through to register my voice as my password and said I would be passed back and they could close. I did that and was passed to a different person, he said I needed to ring back so I could verify my ID using my voice and they could then close. I rang again and spoke to somebody else who closed the account. Ridiculous.
